  1. He seemed to be making reasonable points to me .... poor arithmetic aside.
  2. The goals against column is unbelievable. Most new managers concentrate on getting the defence right first and he's definitely done that. An upgrade on Bradley, Niambe fit and we look decent. Add more bite in midfield (Adams-esque), more youth/pace on the wings, a creative number 10 and a front line striker .... Not gonna be cheap.
  3. Adams, Niambe, Nelson, Ward, Wilson, CBT, NML, Fornah .. he definitely favours an 'athletic' footballer. Generally strong, or at least tenacious....with pace preferably, especially up front. What I struggle with is why he persisted so much with Hourihane? It was clearly where we struggled (in the middle) and yet he kept picking someone in that crucial role who doesn't really seem to be his kind of player. Cashin and Nelson have got a bit of everything, surely the best defensive partnership in the league. Collins has been an absolute warrior this season... just think we need an upgrade there most urgently.
  4. I like him as a person. He's good at this level, if pretty pragmatic and favouring percentage football. He deserves a chance to have a crack at it next season. IF we struggle and with the opposition much better if we see many repeats of our worst football from this season, then I expect him to be under pressure and I understand why.
  5. Is there a Warne-confessional thread where the more vitriolic anti-Warne posters can bare their souls, recant their heretic views and thereby claim absolution and become a true believer with immunity from any 'I told you so' comments? Then we can all walk hand-in-hand into a better world, where grounds are like small cities, where the players have names you have heard of and it doesn't feel like a really weird coincidence if you happen to know someone who supports the opposition?
  6. The Warne-iest of Warne performances today. The better team first half and a great breakaway goal. 2nd half we turned over possession constantly, Wildsmith at crosses and his kicking both poor again today. Lots of bodies blocking shots, lots of effort but little quality. Back 3 looked immense and we just about did enough. No way are we losing by more than 1 next week regardless, so Bolton will be on the front foot. Think we could take a point with minimal effort- so will be interesting how he goes... probably same again.
  7. Almost impossible to catch us, with a game in midweek and another on Sat... quickly followed by the play offs. I'm thinking they will rest players regardless. An early goal for Bolton, and Derby looking toothless....every Carlisle attack is going to be stressful.
  8. Didn't Graham Richards constantly refer to it as the BBG?
  9. I'd go for Hourihane's...love a piledriver that ends up top corner.
  10. Really enjoyed Fallout in the end. Great visually for me. Love the 50s vibe, mixed in with different eras of technology (is it almost 'steampunk'?). Has an awful lot of ways it could go. Jumps back and forth ...in time, over/under ground, different storylines. Just has that opportunity to really follow different threads. One of my favourites of the year definitely and I know very little of the game except what the kids have said before.
  11. Definitely better than Kin for me. Found Kin slightly monotous...(especially the lead woman's voice!). Seemed more and more unrealistic as it went on but with no humour or distraction. Love/Hate has more varied characters and feels like it has different tones and the vibe moves around more.
  12. Yep...as noted before 'tinpot'.. ๐Ÿคฃ
  13. Parading a promotion trophy sounds like the basis for a lot of p*ss-taking...
  14. I don't get it. Even when I was younger I didnt ..eg at the Southampton semi. What's the point, you can't see anything and all the players scatter. Just stay near your seats or congregate near the front of the stand and clap the players and staff ie those who have done it. Getting on the pitch seems a weird desire. Just head into town and civilly get p*ssed with your mates. Seems a bit entitled... 'why can't I run on the pitch and sorta intimidate the opposition'. Generally starts off fairly good natured but has a good chance of going south in some way. Mainly though, the players can't celebrate properly together or with their families etc because fans want to swamp the pitch. Do it after the celebratory lap and the players have gone if it matters that much to you.
  15. I'm obviously in a minority of 1. I think its a sensible suggestion. It's the cup...its random. 1 match and it goes straight to penalties after 90mins. Only increases the amount of shocks really... draws mean a replay where the bigger team win. Personally I'd prefer going to a FA Cup game knowing I'm definitely getting a result. Extra-Time, replays are for wimps!
  16. As one - of what felt a relatively small minority at times - who urged patience earlier in the season, I'm obviously glad we were, and that the outcome justifies it. I aleo don't subscribe to the 'with the squad we have it was the least we should expect/we should be walking this league' mentality either. However, we have been slightly fortunate that other teams have stumbled so much and/,or that 3 good teams went up last year that would possibly have finished above us again this year. It doesnโ€™t feel like a particularly strong League 1 - the Championship looks ridiculously strong though. All irrelevant, we go up and we deserve it. Warne deserves a crack at the Championship. But it's inevitable if we continue the style of play when we are bad that he will come under pressure. This year the mantra is 'he's done it 3 times' and that calm experience looks key now. Even the way we accepted a (vital) point at Wycombe whereas Peterborough have taken a couple of hidings in amongst their wins. Next season all previous experience is relatively negative so it won't be long before the pressure is on. Bottom half there will be a lot of groans, near bottom 3 close to Xmas and I expect he'd be close to gone. I can't imagine many teams go up with such a divided fan base around the manager but almost everyone will agree he's done his job this year and so understand why he's going to be given the chance again. How long that patience last is going to variable!!
  17. The Bolton result was massive, we had no room for error before then. Now, even worst case scenario and we lose and Bolton win. We still play the bottom of the table at home, needing to win and improve our goal difference. And a draw keeps it totally in our hands. It's almost a free hit tomorrow, which for our stress levels and their mentality is massive. No early goal or even a goal against us tomorrow isn't panic stations, as a draw is still 'fine'. I just can't see us not winning at least one of those 2 games and that will be enough I think regardless. We can go out confident but not desperate, gradually put the squeeze on them (they would take a draw I'm sure), don't give them any chances and go for the win but with an eye on not conceding. Can't see us changing much. Back 3 worked, Sibley and Wilson give us an outlet. Also gives us the option of 3 in the middle. Can't see us throwing Bird straight in, Hourihane is being edged out. Adams and Smith have been great. Thompson gives us energy, why change it. Collins starts... NML hasn't been as good as he can be and ends up out of position, but Collins and Washington looked dreadful the other week...so we go again and can change style with CBT coming on wide with NML, Barks can come anywhere along the line and Washington or Waghorn give us more goal threat if needed or a more obvious 2 up top. Can't see any reason anything can go wrong.....
  18. Ta. Watched Episode 1 (of 'Fallout') now. Not a gamer but am aware of it through my kids. Visually it looks great, feels big budget, plenty of storyline! Will stick with it for now.
  19. Zipping not lacing...... the mind boggles!
  20. I don't want to...or need to. It adds nothing to my enjoyment or the end result. Plus there are too many unknowns. You score an early offside goal in a match, you then choose to sit deep, soak up pressure and you give up a few chances but ultimately you win. The stats are totally driven by what happened in that initial incident. If the goal had been disallowed, the whole game would have been played in a totally different way. So all the stats are pretty meaningless to me. You disagree...but I don't see the point or merit in your view anyway as its a lot of thinking about stuff that is impossible to know anyway.
  21. Do you not think you're driving yourself insane here? The fact is the league is the result of 48 games, lasting 90mins over the course of nearly a year, playing home and away, with the same rules every time. As part of a sample that's quite comprehensive. If it comes to the last day and the second placed team hit the post and also are denied a clear penalty, meaning they only get 1 point. And you in third are given a goal which is offside and grab all 3 points, then that feels a massive swing of luck and/or deserved success. So, over the course of the season you attempt to chart/categorise these... and I don't think you can. Because there are too many intangibles, too many 'possible chances', possible mistakes, too many occasions someone 'could' have been sent off...or are given a corner they shouldn't or a free kick that was debatable. Or played good teams when they had lots of injuries or had a new manager or lots of games in a short space of time or or or... It's endless. So why try to compute it. There is a long enough sample time, and at the end of it someone gets promoted and everyone knows the rules at the start of it. The 2 with the most points go up.
  22. Think there was a slight danger on Sat if we'd known we needed to win we could over-commit, panic a bit if we didn't score early...and then get hit with a sucker punch, like Bolton did. Now we can take our time, build pressure... and even take a draw if needs be, and I think we will inevitably score.
  23. I'm guessing if we were headed into the play offs there would be less gracious comments ๐Ÿ˜€ You did us a massive favour last week and potentially took the stuffing out of Bolton who ultimately knew they were on the back foot yesterday already. Hopefully our paths cross again very soon!!
  24. There's a relatively small amount of people who can wear that... Fortunately I'm one ๐Ÿ˜‰
  25. ...and......? Feels like a trailer rather than a review ๐Ÿ˜€ I plan to watch it....How's it going?
