You need proper owners in football to succeed. It starts at the top if you are owned by clowns you end up being a circus. Leeds for example had a succession of joker owners and ended  up as a laughing stock for 16 or so years. A succession of small clubs like Bournemouth and Brentford have succeeded recently due to good leadership. If you get professional leadership who are invested in progressing a football club and the football club is their main focus and not personal agendas and ego trips that club will prosper. Match good leadership with a big club and  Derby are that and there is only one direction you go and that is up.

No matter how bad it gets, you have to live in hope that the good times will return.
Here are a few examples of current Premiership teams who've had recent bad times :
    Man City - 3rd division in 2001
    Leicester City - Bankrupt & 3rd division in 2008/09
Leeds United - Bankrupt in 2007 and 3rd division for 3 seasons to 2010
Southampton - Bankrupt and 3rd division in 2009
Brighton - no ground and 3rd division up to 2011
    Wolves - 3rd division in 2014/15

I think he's done a massive amount of growing as a manager already and I think he does a great job of preparing the team for games. Results and performances aren't perfect but I can't think of a game so far this year or for much of last year where we looked caught out by the opposition or what they were going to do (not the same as making an error, I'm looking bigger picture style of play stuff) which has been the case at Derby for years.
His understanding of the game is underrated and he's going to be a top manager.
That said...its not been all that fantastic. But he is the least of our problems

I try and keep things as fair and balanced as I can, as I always do when it comes to Derby County, but tonight was completely symptomatic of where we are at as a club.
Mel, you've been a decent custodian for a number of the years that you have been our owner. It can't have been easy trying to compete with parachute payments and the like and trying to chase the dream with thousands of baying Derby fans full of ambition on your back. I get that. But tonight is a major indicator of the total mess we have now been left with as a club with the unorthodox methods you have employed to try and gain these advantages. Derby fans deserve some finality to the current issues and need to move on to save the club from the inevitable major decline approaching.
You simply can't expect a squad of mostly kids bolstered by some ageing free agents to compete in the toughest league in the world. By trying to plot and work around the financial fair play rules (as flimsy and pathetic as they may be) you have led this great club into an untenable position at the moment. Squad depth is non-existent and in the odd case that we can stay competitive in games our lack of options shines through when the going gets tough in the 75th minute. It is completely unfair on Wayne Rooney and his staff to be left in this position, and completely unfair on the players who have stuck by and are currently fighting for Derby County Football Club.
I understand I will personally never be in the position to walk away from a multi-million pound business so can't imagine the problems this would pose, and I have no doubts that you are doing what you can to keep things afloat, but with the club being a proud institution of Derbyshire, it's so heart-breaking to see that things are going the way they are because of what I feel are personal battles and arguments with members of the EFL board.
To the people of this forum, how much longer can things go on the way they are going without being challenged? We are dying by a thousands cuts in the hope that we may avoid a points deduction and stay up again by the skin of our teeth. In reality, every game that goes by is forcing a points deduction on us whether we like it or not. We can't keep trying to tread water like we are.

Not you but our illustrious chairman  and owner stating we should be using our academy. Our academy players are not that good. They may (and it is a big may) be above average but nothing more.

Wouldn't you be at least curious about what the 6 points were for?
So many bandy figures around of how many points we should "take the hit for" but for what? or are we all assuming a P and S overspend of that scale? I can't help but think if our restated accounts showed such an overspend the EFL would not have been able to contain their excitement for this long and the Boro Pube Head would have been seen cartwheeling down the street by now.

Can the stattos on here confirm or deny when Clement was sacked...were we top or near the top of the Championship.
We certainly gambled, It didn't pay off as the Manager was removed from duties.
The excuse of not playing the "Derby way" was the biggest con since Sepp Blatter said the Qatar world cup bid was free and fare.

Will never be part of the Mels fan club, he has made far to many bad decisions, will not go over them again, as i have been banging this drum to long, i love DCFC, and all i want is some new owners to support our manager and get this great club back off its knees, and start having postive press again, and lets start talking about on field matters again, fed up with all the off field stuff now. Once A Ram Always A Ram, are you listening Mel.

Its nice of him to give to charities / set up charity
Still doesn't make him a good chairman. You can be a nice bloke and totally dog poo at your job or this case running a football club. I don't hate him i don't know him but i hate what he's done to the club & his poor decisions
    Sooner he goes the better

Some interesting comments from Ed Dawes today. Local media contacting the club but they can't get answers. Dawes refers to them using Talksport to sweep the issues under the carpet as the local support will use the local media as a voice.
I think it was Brian Clough who stressed the importance to get onside of the local boys. You've misjudged it Melvyn again. You don't think the local lads are important. They are !

I don't deny Mel's previous commitment both financial and time to the club. He's a fan of the club and if you had to choose an owner a lot of us would go down the fan route. I do think he's ran the club in a manner that has been superficially attractive but far too many fans have had far too much faith in Mel and backed his every decision. The whole point of a good owner is that they listen to advice and have some foresight meaning they don't do the things we would do because we lack the knowledge and expertise to make those decisions. This is where the 'hindsight' and 'what would you have done?' arguments start to fall down for me and one of the reasons he's turned out to be such a bad owner for us.

The communication with the fans has long been cut leaving us in the dark about the future of the club that has led to general panic and mass consternation at the perceived or actual state of the club. Now, he's staring down the barrel of not 1, not 2, but 3 failed takeovers by disreputable potential owners and I can see no other reason other than he wants out at almost any cost to the club. I can deal with him deciding to not investing significant sums of money especially after the money he's put in. However, I am struggling to stomach his seeming desire to get rid of us to absolutely anyone who will use any mechanism so he can recoup his losses. I am struggling to stomach his lack of communication and seeming lack of interest in the club because he's had enough and now wants out as it's all turned sour.

If this was any other owner the pitchforks would be out by now as the way Mel's handled this season and our attempted sales has been nothing short of ridiculous.
