After the fun of the Lampard season, I dreaded who we might appoint. But Mel pulled off a major coup and I was elated when we appointed Cocu. We all were...well bar 3 out of 500(?), look back at the survey results.
The general consensus was that he was to be given time to build something sustainable and for the long term, utilizing the academy. Not least because we could not buy promotion like Wolves did and now Fulham are trying.
But, look what's happened, we've not played well against Stoke, made a couple of errors and so lost to a decent Bristol side and mayhem has ensued. The forum is in meltdown.
I understand the frustration. I'm getting old fer chrissekes. We all want to see Derby back in the top flight as soon as possible. But sheesh.
After a few poor appointments (Mac2, Clement, Pearson and Rowett - actually that's quite a lot), Mel has learnt the type of manager that can deliver the "Derby way".
But with a tight budget, it will take time. Mel knew that when he gave PC a 4 year contract.
Cocu is absolutely the right man.
He needs a couple of transfer windows to shift the rest of the deadwood and bring in players to plug the gaps that cannot be fulfilled by academy graduates.
This new batch of academy graduates looks the most promising - probably ever in terms of numbers. But they need time, they need to gain experience, they need a chance to iron out the inconsistencies all young players have and time to improve their decision making. It's not going to happen overnight.
Like it or not, this really has to be a "transition season".
Let Cocu mould the team. Let the academy players learn their trade and become deserved first teamers.
I'd guess L***s and Fulham will be promoted automatically this season, then there are a lot of teams vying for the playoffs. I'd be surprised if we're one of them.
So, let's instead enjoy the development happening in front of our eyes. Those of you lucky enough to go to the games, enjoy the fun of going to a football match.
The future for our club hasn't been this bright for a long time.
Cocu and Mel are building something special.
    Relax and believe.

The only ground I have visited that have taken drinks off us before entering was Old Trafford, only 3 of other grounds have taken our bottle tops, Leeds and Forest , with Leeds providing plastic cups to empty them into. It might seem “tight” to some people but with kids in tow , season tickets for 2 adults and 2 kids, travel etc we always take a drink each , some treats and definitely flasks in the colder days . I always have my smallish bag checked as I go in which is fine by me, for security reasons I have no objections. If prices for things in the ground were the same as normal pricing it would be ok , (obviously the queueing problem would have to be addressed else there would be no one watching the match!) they are usually ridiculously overpriced and I won’t buy them on principle. I buy a programme every match which contributes a little but if this policy is put into force I will never buy refreshments at the ground , I’ll just go without but I won’t be happy about it. Don’t make our club like the money grabbing Man Utd please.

Just my own example as an explanation which might help prevent bafflement.
I take a small flask of tea/coffee and a bit of chocolate or some sweets for the kids. All for half time. I do this because:
    a) I like a drink at half time
    b) I like to remain in my seat until the end of the first half and be in it when the teams come out for the second
    c) I also like a visit to the gents, which in itself takes several mins because of the queue
    d) to have a piss and queue up would mean missing part of the game, and I'd rather not
    d) The tea/coffee at the stadium is poo and the chocolate very expensive. They don't even sell what the kids like particularly
    e) I don't want to take a 3 course meal or alcohol, or anything that impinges on sales. If they really want to ban what I take in, fine. That won't make me buy it there.
That's the angle I come at this from. It's not a huge deal. It's not that we can't be at a stadium for two hours without food or drink, but it's part of the enjoyment. I don't want to watch the latter stages of a game with a very dry mouth or throat, feels horrible.
Equally there is a principle there about freedom of choice, regardless of what venue you are at, which I think is a fair argument.
It all depends on how strict they are.
    Hope that helps.

Thank you Craig for all the fabulous memories you have given us, especially the Forest games and that unforgettable season with your 16 goals. It was always going to be sad to see him go, but it was definitely time in my opinion.
It's like the end of an era, he's been with us for so long and will stand as one of the greatest bargains we've had in recent times. You could tell how much he loved the club and his loyalty in a way was detrimental to his career. After our 2013/14 season, he'd have got a PL move if he pushed for it. He possibly could've got a move to Cardiff last summer too.
The longer he stayed, the more criticism he got, and although his performances in all honesty, probably were not good enough for us in the last couple of years, it shouldn't overshadow what he has done at the club and the great memories he's provided.
I really wish him all the best and it would be brilliant to see him back at Derby in another role somewhere in the future.

Am I the only one disgusted by the lack of respect the media are showing Derby County with the whole Lampard saga?
I get that the frenzy has been drummed up to get clicks and sell newspaper copies but I'm sick of it now. We're a big Championship club in our own right and deserve to be treated as such by the media, regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in.
Hope Lampard turns Chelsea down and sticks by us if any approach comes, just to see how the media react to not getting their way!
