That analogy has nothing to do with evolution. The theory is, if you have infinite monkeys typing on infinite typewriters and give them infinite time, they would eventually type the complete works of Shakespeare. It means that in an infinite universe, all things are possible, and all possibilities are inevitable.
Although, I suppose given infinite time, the monkeys would evolve into Shakespeare. So perhaps you’re right.
Sorry, have I gone off topic. Quick, let’s shoe horn in some relevance...
if we give Kieran Dowell infinite time, he’ll inevitably come good (or write a very good play).

We're three games in.  Our best midfield is yet to start and we're a work in progress that won't hit it's straps until the autumn (because of numerous factors impacting our summer and pre-season).  Now is not the time to panic.

I'm against moving it, particularly as we haven't yet discussed Chris Martin and George Thorne's potential new roles as club climate change ambassadors 😂

I think you've summed it up in a nutshell. Anyone hankering after a like for like replacement is gonna be left disappointed. We were lucky get such a talent and moving forward we need to find a system that negates his loss and not a direct replacement. I think and hope that Cocu is an astute enough manager to come up with a system/systems that make us less reliant on individuals and a more rounded unit. It's gonna be interesting to watch it unfold.

I guess I shouldn’t draw too many conclusions from BBC Stats or a 6 minutes highlights package, but it seems to me to be a sounder base to work from than few of the rabid assessments on here.  We went away to a reasonable side (consider their teamsheet) who have a pretty good home record, and a passionate crowd.  We matched them 50/50 with possession, and we had more efforts on target.  We got a couple of good goals from nicely constructed attacking moves (if you allow for the build up to the pen) and we created a lovely chance at the end that Waghorn was only just unable to convert. Could easily have won that 3-2.  Yes there was a bit of dodgy defending, and our midfield is yet to be settled let alone gel but in my close to 50 years of watching football l have come to the conclusion it does often take a little while to get going in a new league season. Quite often more than 3 games. Good point I would say.

Really hope Cocu can coach some more consistency out of Lawrence. The lad is a match winner. To me, it’s doing the ugly side that he did really well at Huddersfield. Doing that gets fans on your side and can boost your confidence when you get the chance to go forward. Because when he’s playing well, there’s plenty of ability there.

Think criticism of Dowell is very premature. Firstly, I think he's suffering a bit from having 2 deep lying midfielders & 2 fairly inconsistent wingers alongside him. There's quite a gap from Huddlestone & Evans to him currently - a box to box midfielder around him would free up some space for him/give him some options, as would wingers showing consistent menace. Once Bielek starts, I think there will be room for a Shinnie/Knight/Holmes type who will play closer to Dowell.
Secondly, as others have pointed out on here, neither Tomori or Harry Wilson were that impressive in our first few games last year. It takes time to adapt to a new team, that in itself is under new management. Dowell has already shown glimpses of his talent (including yesterday's assist) so has started fine for me.

A very harsh assessment I feel. A lovely ball into Waghorn for the first today. He is a tidy player, maybe not a ‘get off your seat, wow player’ but tidy. I think there is more to come and look forward to seeing what he can deliver.
Football is about partnerships not necessarily the individual. The sooner some start to realise this rather than target individuals the better.
We had some brilliant individuals last year - Mount, Wilson and Tomori would cost a fortune, but we still came 6th. Individually the new loans may not be as eye catching, but could yet prove to be more effective on the whole.

Maybe just to point something out.
I don’t think anyone is scape goating here, it’s good to have a debate over a player no matter where it is in the season. No ones saying he’s a bad player, it’s more about what we think he provides.
By saying this is scape goating a player only creates a self fulfilling prophecy. Or that weird thing when he hits form in a few games time people will post ‘remember when everyone thought he was rubbish’, which again wasn’t really the case in the first place

Three league games. Bit harsh to already judge a new player, particularly in a team that is getting used to a new Manager’s tactical requirements.  Tough crowd.
