We've also scored more goals than the last 3 third division seasons
2023/24 - 14 goals ( despite us appearing to be 'shot shy' )
We've actually scored in every game this season

    2022/23 - 7 goals
    1985/86 - 11 goals

I’d rather have the ball than not have the ball. But Warne seems to favor not having the ball and creating chances through second balls, picking up loose balls in dangerous areas and feeding off the opposition mistakes.
Honestly, this is the easiest way of setting up a team and requires the least amount of technical coaching.
I just don’t like it. Never have.
From Jim Smith to George Burley to Steve McClaren, I like technical football which requires skill, bravery on the ball and vision.
I get making do with what you have. I understand why Nigel Clough took years to finally play some decent stuff until he had the players to do so.
But what is Warne’s excuse. Hourihane, Bird and Smith are ball-playing midfielders. Probably among the best in the league. Why bypass that with aimless long balls to Wash, Waghorn and ‘Collo’.

From the list below, I'm realistically hoping for 2) but witnessing 4)
1 ) Play good football and win
    2) Play dour football and win
    3) Play good football, not win but see what is trying to be achieved
    4) Play a style/tactic that is not good to watch , isn't consistently winning & does not seem like changing any time soon
    5) Play bad football & not win
PS. No, I don't want to set up another vote

It doesn’t matter how good our midfield is/could be if our tactic consists of “whack it upfield and see what happens, lad”, which is all we’ve got at the moment.
I believe that our midfield are playing to strict instruction re getting the ball into the channels. There are hints, for example several times Hourihane has “channelled” the ball and then slowed to a stop with a hacked off look on his face as though he isn’t enjoying life in midfield. Almost as though he knows he could do better if he was allowed to.

It is good to have the dream. On holiday this year we kept seeing a personalised beach towel with "Big Tone" on it a on sunbed. Kept trying to see the owner imagining a big West Ham fan type geezer. He was more Les Dennis. Very disappointing

    Mods.
Please could we have a separate, pinned "Big Trav Says" thread with only his proclamations allowed - where he unfailingly raises the hopes of the masses and no-one has a pop even if said proclamations don't come to pass........a sort of e-pulpit.
Never met him, no idea who he is but he's brightened up my summer.

On the Rotherham forum, they are talking about the Warne situation
Here are a few of the comments :
"Having lived in Derby for the last 15 years, I decided to watch this on Rams TV.

It was really dire stuff and there were times when I thought I was watching Rotherham again in the Warne era. They play exactly like we did under Warne. That probably comes as little surprise but it genuinely had Warne written all over it. Even their goal reminded me of us. Basically came from a long throw which was allowed to bounce, defence failed to clear it and Waghorn swept it in. Following that it was just balls lumped into the box. Very little craft, in fact very little anything.

I wish PW well but he's got work to do to turn this around."
    ..................................................
"There are patterns developing. The burn out at the end of the season cos players knacked, signing unfit players, no plan b on pitch, not being able to string two passes together, not being able to sign players he wants."
    ..................................................
"Derby were 'nailed on' for promotion up until late March last year and capitulated towards the end of the season and never even made the play-offs! For many of us, that came of no surprise, but for the Derby fans it was a shock to the system that now is rearing it's ugly head!"

Actually supporters , or quite a few, were moaning in Brian Cloughs first season in charge when we went backwards a bit. Its certainly not a new thing but I guess social media and internet forums accent alot more and give a broader platform.
For what its worth I dont think I have ever been at any game where some sections of support didnt vent on a team, player, manager during the match. I started going to games early 70s regularly.

Regarding this current manager Im not really sure what to think. I get that he has new players and it could take time to gel or gather momentum. Arthur Cox had a slow start and look what happened… as an example.
But… these errors so far this season for goals we have conceded and the manner of that first half last night! They were serious ” Wows” for me…
Managing a club of Derbys size in league 1 comes with pressures different to the smaller clubs. Warne had better get used to that.

Im over from Sweden with my lad for Saturdays game v Burton… positive for this still and hoping to be happy lad and dad heading back to Derby by tea time.
