Just to put things into perspective, last season Leeds won automatic promotion without parachute payments and the season before Sheffield United did it.
I agree that promotion is often the relegated clubs to lose but sometimes when they stick with their old manager, or sack their manager and make a bad appointment , it gives other clubs a chance

    100% this.
The sentiment of the OP is totally right but its like complaining about the weather - its totally futile as we have to operate within the system that we find ourselves in. It ain't changing. What is obvious is that in a division artificially skewed by parachute payments, fighting them on a financial basis (particularly with a FFP handicap) is lunacy.
Leeds, Sheff Utd & Norwich (previous time) got up without parachute payments & without exceeding FFP limits - the thing that linked all 3 was a) a well established & consistent pattern of play, b) recruitment totally geared to that style & c) managers with a vision who were backed by their respective owners. All 3 clubs had serious wobbles on their way up but stuck with the project & are now reaping the financial rewards.
Its obviously tough but this isn't a closed shop - we just need to be much much smarter & more strategic in the way we go about our business. We need an edge.

If true, I think selling 11,000 season tickets last season is pretty good in the pandemic
On the flipside, that's potentially 11,000 whose money they've already had and so won't be paying in next season ?

I put this in another thread but I was told recently by someone in the tickets office that they are waiting until the FA directs them as to how many are allowed in before deciding their policy. They had sold around 11k for the season just ended and I guess have to work out whether to honour those this season and therefore not sell any more if only one third capacity is allowed, or refund and start from scratch if more are etc etc
But until they know what they are dealing with they are holding out. It makes sense to be fair.

Mel's argument was that football alone means it's a totally inefficient use of a venue - 25 days of the year - he's right about that one.
So this could massively increase the use of the venue throughout the year. The issue wasn't just putting a roof on though, it was also protecting the pitch as a temporary surface would have to be placed over the grass each time there was a non-football event -plus the time it takes to install the surface & then take it up again, meaning that apart from international breaks, there may not be too many opportunities for events within the season. This means that you have to have many events during the close season - but what about relaying the pitch each Summer ?
Looking at the video, it also looks like the roof provides protection from the rain but as there are gaps for airflow, the temperature inside the ground would still be subject to daily air temperature.
How much would it actually cost to put the roof on ? As the stadium is now Mel's rather than DCFC's, the manufacturing cost would be his I guess but consequently, the revenue collected from non-football events would be his also rather than the clubs.

Yes, I expect pretty much all EFL clubs are in for a shock season regarding ticket sales
There will always be the die hard fans who'd turn up to watch any game of football but there are also fans who :
    1) Aren't die hard
    2) Have got used to not attending and happy just watching it on TV
    3) May have suffered financially during the pandemic & simply can't afford match tickets
    4) Consider themselves vulnerable and will not feel comfortable attending
I'm fortunate & I'd still go just to watch paint dry, let's hope most fans are like me

Hard to sell anything football related when there is a pandemic going on for any club - whilst our troubles are being enflamed by the national media other clubs must be in similar positions but any potential owner would think ( mistakenly) that they could sell 28-30,000 tickets to us lot.
there is a major football reset occurring this summer with so many players being released who will not get other jobs because the money simply will not be coming in and no club can guarantee selling players anymore as well as being unable to afford loan fees.
the parachute clubs will be be so far away from the rest this season it will be staggering

The pitch was fine at the beginning and the end of the season - shame we lost most of those games.
When the pitch was shocking, we beat Swansea, Bournemouth, Bristol City, Boro & Huddersfield on it.
Maybe the EFL will investigate whether we gained an advantage ?

Yes I do remember when Mel actually used to give interviews, he definitely stated that we were to be sold only if it's to someone who was 'safe hands' and could take the club forwards.
He also mocked some of the many chancers that had shown interest - how ironic !!

Imagine Becks sitting in the exec seats up in the West Stand, the whole ground rising in appreciation, "David Beckham's Black and White Army" ringing round the stadium......then it dies down, goes quiet, and a lone voice from the back of the South Stand gives it, "Posh Spice, takes it up the.........."
