This - since George burley bar the odd signing from abroad we have barely ever tapped into other markets. I get the expenses involved with having a wider recruitment strategy but surely at some point we need to get better at recruiting from aboard once again. The club has done it successfully in the past. (Thinking burley and smith eras). 

Surprised that in recent years we haven't explored the European option. Must be some decent, sensible cost options from the likes of Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, etc. Possibly don't have any scouting capability for this though?

It wouldn't be mate. This is what got us in this mess. 
He's 29. So signing him for 2-3 million on a 3 year deal. He won't be worth that in 3 years time.
Signing players for silly money and letting them leave for free is a massive reason why we're in the position we are in.

If this happens, Warne needs to come out and clarify his age comments. As soon as McGoldrick left, we thought a #9 would be our main priority this season, combined with the comment about wanting players in the 23-28 age bracket, it was fair to assume we were aiming for our marquee signing to be a #9 in this mould.
If we then start the season then with our youngest striker being 31, that would be disappointing, but only because of what Warne said which has built expectations a bit...

What looked like a great window is about to become another disappointing one. 
No enthusiasm for the season now. Another year in league one.
Bird, Cashin will be off next year to play for someone more ambitious like Millwall or Plymouth or maybe there’ll be off in January when they  realise we’re not going to make the playoffs again.

This bloke has scored just over 200 goals in just over 400 games and some of us are saying no.
I'm intrigued as to realistically you'd want us to sign? Or would fit in a wage budget? 
I'm not saying he's a world beater or I'd be excited. But it's league one. We are where we are. Personally think he could comfortably score between 10-15 goals at this level.
