  1. What a win!!! The character to pull it off despite the injuries and being on the back foot. The mentality is different now, we have done all we had to do in our biggest game of the season. When your in-form goal scorer goes off injured after 20 minutes, you just think it’s going to be one of those days. Let’s hope it’s not too bad for Gayle. The Posh-Pompey result is excellent for us too, Barnsley even more of a bonus. 4 points clear with 7 to play, we can do this. What a team, what a day, get the f*** in!!
  2. You can’t make the point that if Gayle didn’t handle the ball, you’d be ahead of us, then just say “water under the bridge” when it’s pointed out that Bolton have directly benefited from a refereeing error this season too. Had the referee correctly identified that Wildsmith didn’t handle the ball at the Toughsheet Stadium, and didn’t send him off, then we may have got at least a point from that game. That’s a swing of at least 3 points against an important promotion rival, meaning we would currently be 4 points clear rather than one. We also conceded a last minute equaliser against Pompey which looked very much offside. Again, that’s a swing of 3 points. Add those two poor decisions together, and not only are we waving you goodbye in the distance, we’re top of the league. But you can point to any given decision over the course of the season and say “what if?” I don’t think Gayle deliberately handled the ball. It was a handball, but the goalkeeper made up the ref’s decision by charging out and making contact. We’re both in League 1, we both know the standard of refereeing leaves a lot to be desired. I’d argue we’ve been on the receiving end of poor officiating much more than we’ve benefitted this season. At the end of the day, it’s tough sheet, and you just have to get on with it.
  3. You know we have the highest goal difference, right? Might suggest that others aren't as convincing as much as us.
  4. I’m confident we’d be 1 place higher in the league if we had him all season. The balance he’s added has made such a difference, it’s not just Adams that looks like a good player, but everyone around him has got ‘better’ too.
  5. If there’s enough contact to send Hourihane over in that position the. It’s a definite yellow. The space Hourihane moves in to with NML or Gayle as options with clear shots on goal means it has to be a yellow. It would be a cynical trip. Whether there was contact, or enough to send Hourihane down, is a different question. I don’t see why he would dive in that position unless he recognised it was Yiadom who was already on a yellow and likely to get a second. Penalty area, it’s understandable, but a free kick alone from that position is less dangerous than the position we’d have found ourselves in if he wasn’t “fouled”, I can completely understand why the ref gave it.
  6. Or.... give us the favourable decisions tonight so it can 'even itself out' on Saturday 👀
  7. After tonight's games, no lower than 11th.
  8. Through this site? For what it's worth, I also have Pompey finishing 3rd with 92 points but missing out on goal difference. https://www.worldfootball.net/table_calculator/eng-league-one/
  9. Charlton in 14th cannot overtake us, so technically 13th. But seeing as the top 13 will obviously play one another before the end of the season, mathematically it'll be higher than this, I just can't be bothered to work out how high!
  10. So Max Bird is meant to be out for 3 weeks, that'll take us up to the end of March. From previous comments from Warne, shouldn't we also have Collins, Washington, Forsyth and Elder be back by then too? Four games left this month, Reading, Bolton and Blackpool at home, Northampton away. If we're still in a good position after this set of fixtures, then hopefully in the influx of strong first teamers returning will add some depth and get us over the line.
  11. Hopefully it's not the only record we break this season. Our record number of points in a season with 3 points per win is 85. 14 points needed from 9 games, so 1.55 ppg. We're currently on track for 89 points (1.94 ppg). When we were last promoted from this tier of English football, we managed 84 points. 89 points would be a good achievement for Warne even if it doesn't end up being enough for a top 2 place.
  12. It can change so quickly, that's the problem. A great day for us today could be completely reversed in a few days. Posh didn't win in 4 and were believed to be out of it. Now 4 wins in a row, and they're a point behind us if they win their games in hand. I don't even think Portsmouth can be overly confident that they're safe in the top two right now. They have to play all four directly below them in the league. I highly doubt they'll lose all four of those games, but if they do it's not inconceivable that they don't even get the home advantage in the play-offs, let alone automatic promotion. If we can hold our nerve in the 'big' games, and get 4 points from Bolton and Pompey, then we'll do it. With the fixtures we do have left, we'll kick ourselves if we miss out from this position.
  13. They still have some work to do, 4 of their next 7 games are Posh, Barnsley, us & Bolton. They're away at Posh the same day as we play Bolton at home, then we have Northampton the same day as they have Barnsley. We're 5 behind them at the moment, if we're less than that by the time we play them then it could be a nervous situation for them, and we will hopefully have our tails up. I don't think we'll catch them unless we beat them at their place, so it's a really tough ask, but 4 teams neck and neck chasing them down is going to cause a lot of pressure. Two or three bad results and they don't just lose top spot, they could quite easily fall to 4th or 5th. They're favourites by far, but it's going to go right to the end.
  14. Well today was alright. Three points gained on Barnsley, +7 GD. Two points gained on Pompey and Bolton, +3 GD. Nil points gained on Peterborough, but +1 GD. For argument's sake, if Posh and Barnsley win their games in hand (I know they're a little while away yet) then it'd be... 1. Portsmouth - 77 2. Derby - 72 3. Posh - 71 4. Bolton - 71 5. Barnsley - 70 I'd suggest anybody old enough to consciously remember a competitive first team game at the BBG invest in some Tena pants for men (or women), because it's going to be a nervy end of the season.
  15. Ffs Waggy! Stop improving our goal difference!
