Rampage reacted to Yani P in Rams vs Luton Matchday Thread
Cardiff Hull and Barnsley all losing...would probably prefer Hull to get a point with Peterboro but great results for us so far with 4th bottom getting nothing..

The three teams directly above are not as good as us so we will pass them. If we had win last night and did not have a points deduction, we would be three points off the top six.

If Appleby is keen and surely knows the numbers and situation and wants to sort it quickly, I can't see what the problem would be.

Or they could sold other things to buy us or there backers have other things on the side to fund us.

I'm not disagreeing with you, it was another roll of the dice. Lampard's permanent signings were poo. Maybe Morris should have told Lampard to stick with the loan signings and get someone else to do recruitment. Easy to say now.
But it really is no good blaming Morris for everything. We have been incredibly unlucky year after year. Losing four play off ties by a single goal each time. What if QPR hadn't cheated in 2014, injuries wrecked our run in 2015, Thorne breaking his leg just before play offs in 2016, Vydra not fit for the play offs in 2018 , no fully fit strikers for the 2019 play off final except for Mason Bennett.
If the dice had rolled fairly for us then nobody would have been blaming Morris for anything.

We are a good middle of the table side that needs two good strikers.

Rampage reacted to May Contain Nuts in Attacking play limitations
It seems almost impossible that Rooney could be criticised for anything at the moment but I suspect that even if we had myriad attacking options we'd be still seeing similar problems. Not as bad but still there.
We play some good football around the box but as has been pointed out rarely inside the box.
Rooney clearly doesn't think that it's worth the risk of leaving ourselves exposed by even having even one of them bomb into the box. Even our good attacking play carries a defensive element, we need / want as many players as possible to be in position to and show a great desire to get back and defend so we will very rarely over-commit going forward.
It's the sensible approach given our current predicament and as such this isn't a criticism of the job he's doing, but the approach isn't necessarily in place because of our predicament.
I think we just have to accept that even with better players we'd be a pretty cautious team a lot of the time because that's how the manager chooses to set us up. There's evidence for this in his team selections and placement of certain players
We're in a position that even if we do disagree with some of his ideas, some of his team selections and subs then we have to trust that he knows best because he sees these players every day.
Facts are that with even his limited options and without a points deductions we'd be comfortably mid table. Anything that isn't 'right' is a minor quibble, not something to focus on at this moment (but not something to ignore in the long term).
Perhaps with a better squad although we'd score more, even a minute shift towards a more loosely defined structure we'd undoubtedly concede more, so at the minute the balance is probably as good as we can expect.

He's 39 you know. Would have put that in the top corner when he was 38. Jags likes it at Derby.

Only chance we've got of getting a penalty is if it comes with a points deduction.

Pretty much what I was going to say. With players signed on 4 year contracts in 2015 & 2016, major contract costs were locked in until 2019 or 2020. Transfer spending was IIRC fairly neutral after the end of 2016/17, but with "star" players at the club on anything between 20 - 40K per week, it would have been hard to attract players by offering them significantly lower wages. Rowett left because he realised that the cost-cutting was going to get even deeper (the other day I came across the notes of a Supporters Group meeting attended by Morris and Rowett from shortly after GR's appointment where MM stated clearly that GR knew he'd have to oversee cost savings), so by the time Rush left, Morris was apparently aware of how reckless the spending had become and had started to try to pull things around, hampered by having expensive players on long contracts who no-one wanted to buy. During 2017/18, it must have been clear there was a looming crisis, hence the decisions to sell the Stadium and change the amortisation method were taken in an attempt to "smooth the curve". Covid completed the perfect storm that was started by reckless spending over 2 seasons and fed by ultimate failure and under-performance on the pitch.
So, if Mel was aware of the scale of future liabilities being racked up between 2015-2017, he has to take 100% responsibility. If he left Rush, Vickers et al to manage the finances, he was perhaps lax, perhaps naive, but also let down by those he entrusted and they too must share some responsibility. Those players who came, took the money and gave not a FF will have to square that with their own consciences.

No but most of it was in wages for players on long term contracts arranged by rush.
but hey Mel signed the cheques , the buck does stop with him. Just not all his fault not by a long way.

You will get us out of this mess if you can do what you have done to next to no money. Look what you can do with some money to spend.

Rampage got a reaction from Ellafella in Wayne Rooney
When Wayne says that he is going to see this job through, that is what he means. Wayne has had the equivalent of six years managerial experience since he took this job. In my opinion he has done remarkably well to get this team playing the way that it is. Top dude in my opinion.
