Demanding position as in intensity, defensive midfielders are indeed expected to screen, but it’s not a tiring position. There’s pretty much no difference between centre back and defensive midfielder intensity wise. Two of the best defensive midfielders ever- Busquets and Makelele, never broke a sweat because they were always in the right position . If you’re knackered playing in that position then you’re doing it wrong unless your team is a pressing maniac team like Klopp’s

I keep reading that if he was consistent, he’d be playing in the premier league so get off his back. To me that’s nonsense, we can expect at least some consistently from our players. He’s supposed to be hitting his best years at his age but can anyone say he’s gotten better to when he first signed or is showing signs that he is going to improve?
One of the reasons why so many loved the 13/14 and early part of the 14/15 season, is because our players were consistent and we knew what to expect from them every week, even players perceived to be inconsistent like Hendrick, were consistent back then. Players like Forsyth, Dawkins, Ward, Buxton, Russell, may not have been the most talented in the world, but we knew that they’d give their absolute all every darn week. I tell you one thing , there’s no way Clough Jr , Billy Davies or McClaren would have put up with players like Lawrence because they wanted players who played for the team. The reality is we will never get promoted with greedy players like Lawrence in his current form unless he adapts. How can a manager build a team when he doesn’t know what to expect from his player? He could have his rarer 7/10 days or his more frequent 4/10s. His poor form is affecting other players like Malone and getting them scapegoated because he provides no defensive support.  It may seem harsh but that’s the reality. Someone needs to sit this lad down and tell him he’s never going to be Ronaldo so stop trying to become a cheap imitation, become your own player.
He can start winning fans over and getting people off his back like myself by giving his absolute all every week, even when he doesn’t play well. His physical build is better than Ward’s, Russell’s and Ince’s yet they tried their best every week so he has no excuse. I guarantee people will get off his back if he starts grafting more, it will benefit his career in the long run.

I would get rid in January and try and sign a new winger, we aren't going to achieve much with him gifting the ball constantly to the opposition and showing bad attitude as harsh as that sounds. I would rather Paterson or Jozefoon play, as a 10 he is better but as we don't play with 1 he shouldn't play.

He's not the worst player we've ever seen but he is one of the most frustrating I think. I think this is why people have such a harsh opinion on him as we can see the potential which i think we all know will never show itself consistently enough for us to be pleased with him. I personally think if he doesn't come good this season we should get rid next season.

Absolutely has to play in midfield. It's what we've been lacking since Thorne got injured. It's the most important position in the formation and Bielik has all the attributes to dominate there - something we're desperate for our midfielders to do.

I feel like the Rooney deal drained a lot of resources. Everything after that seemed rushed and slightly panicked.
I don't know why you'd sign Paterson. If Bristol City felt comfortable enough to send him on loan to a promotion rival, that says it all.
Why not go for a player like free agent Ben Marshall? (can play RB as well which would have been useful recently)

I remember when the Daily Mail ran the story about Paul Clement potentially becoming our new manager, we all dismissed it as a crazy rumour.
Daily Mail dont get everything wrong, I also wouldn't believe a word the Derby Telegraph say, simply because there is no way Mel would tell Steve Nicholson that we have held talks before there is anything significant to report.

I am just being realistic with where we are. We are strong, we are competitive, we are improving, but we still have plenty to prove. We have to prove these past two semi final appearances were not mere anomalies.
I would say we are comfortably one of the top 8 teams in Europe, so the quarter finals is a reasonable expectation. Of course, we should be ambitious and aim for the semi finals and beyond but we have to respect that there are sides out there who can cause us problems on their day, and tournament football by it’s nature doesn’t always stick to the script.
So that’s why I say we should get to the quarter finals and take stock from there. It is a difficult competition to navigate.
If we were to name the favourites for Euro 2020 and took a poll of 100 posters, the majority of us would have completely different answers.
For me, I would have France, Belgium and Portugal as the front runners with Spain, ourselves, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands in the pack behind and that pack you could probably split by a hair.
2022 or 2024 are far more realistic targets.

A half decent job? In 2016, we were dumped out of the European Championships by Iceland in the first knockout round. In 2014, we finished bottom of our group at the World Cup.
Southgate has been in the job since September 2016 and we've got to back-to-back semi finals and he has restored pride and a feel good factor into following the national team. Give the man more credit. He's not perfect but he has made a world of difference.
You say he should be more tactically astute and getting more out of the players at his disposal, but we've had managers in years gone by do so poorly that qualification for tournaments wasn't a given and there were question marks over whether we could even beat the likes of Sweden and Colombia in major tournament scenarios. When you consider where we have come from, it is way too soon to expect us to be reaching finals and winning tournaments.
You say we have one of the best squads in world football and some top young players coming through, but I think you are being generous with that. Five or six other countries could make exactly the same claim.

Anything less than a semi final is a failure?
I think your estimation and your expectations for this England side are way too high. We are a work in progress. We are improving. We are building. Expecting or asking for too much too soon is only going to lead to disappointment. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Are you forgetting the company we keep at the top table of international football? France are world champions. Portugal are European and Nations League champions. Spain, Germany and Italy have all won major tournaments in the last 15 years. Netherlands and Croatia have both reached major finals. Then there's Belgium who finished 3rd at the last World Cup and beat us comfortably twice along the way. So for you to dismiss Netherlands and Croatia shows a poor grasp of where we are in the international landscape.
We have exciting young talent, we have a strong squad and we have some world class individuals but we are far from alone in that. There is not much that separates the top sides in international football, so I find your confidence in England misplaced. Any of the aforementioned sides could beat us in the throws of tournament football - which is notoriously unpredictable and challenging to navigate.
We are traditionally a side that reaches the quarter finals at best but often it's been much worse, so until we are performing consistently in tournaments and consistently reaching the latter stages, what right do we have to expect to be competing for and winning trophies?
Let Southgate continue the good work without crippling him with undue pressure and expectation. We are better off flying along under the radar.

I wish EA would come out and just admit to this. Anyone who has played the game knows it exists and has done for many years. Everyone who goes on their forums and mentions handicap, scripting or momentum are banned straight away, no second chances. Seems like a dictatorship on there where censorship is major, if it’s didn't exist they wouldn’t ban everyone who even mention the words. Would rather an enjoyable football game where the person best wins rather than the game deciding who gets to win.
Maybe I should get back into Pes, I haven’t played it since 2006. I much preferred playing that on the ps2 than Fifa.

I just download the option file for pes and it's all kitted up properly anyway. I think Fifa looks great right up until kick off. It sounds great too but pes is just a better game. When you've made it look licensed and official then you don't really miss the presentation of Fifa.
Fifa scripting seems worse too. You can always tell when the AI will score.

Agreed - I'm pretty sure that a white coach given a role with the FA would be horrified if they thought they'd beaten a black coach to the role purely because of their skin colour, yet that's effectively what the FA are doing by creating these 'BAME only' roles - what next? designated seats on the bus? BAME only doors and toilets at St Georges Park? - seem to remember South Africa having a similar approach and that didn't end well...
I'm delighted for Chris Powell & Johnno and hope they do brilliantly, but I really don't think you beat racism by being racist.....
