No other club looking at his record would touch him at this level but I think he needs to stay simply for continuity. If his wages are too high as the administrators come in and he's not willing to take a hit on his salary when he's already got enough to be set for 2 lifetimes then he knows where the door is. I don't get the love for the man as our manager never have and unless something miraculous happens I never will but I imagine he's had the wool pulled over his eyes (as have we all) so I do feel sorry for the situation he's been put in.
Part of the reason why we're in this mess is an obsession with celebrity and 'big names'. I think what potential owners care more about than having a 'big name' manager is having a sustainable club with a competitive squad and competent staff.

You have no idea that is true. If you listened to the Rio Ferdy video, or read media articles etc you will see that we are to blame for what has been an incredibly difficult management start for Rooney.
He has lots of positives that will be considered, including as can be seen from the start of this season, how well he can do with youth and free agents/loans. That will easily be attractive to many clubs at this level.

So some intresting facts and a lot still left unsaid.
I cannot see why Derby would be excluded from funds that were given due to Covid, Could the £8.5m held Administration at Bay?
It is true that in the Championship Derby would have been affected more than most due to their fanbase hence bigger losses, £20m is no suprise.
I dont think that we can blame the EFL for challenging us over the valuation (not the sale) of PP as it was larger than everyone elses. So if we lost a new owner over it then .........
I think Gibson's role in this and the pressure he was able to bring needs looking at. No one should be able to interfere with the workings of the EFL.
We are likely to have a 12 point deduction but we can show that it was exceptional circumstances so the EFL can be forgiving due to the circumstances that they had a part in.
You can tell that the EFL feared this would happen, they have asked Mel to committ for the year and sked for a business plan.
Onto other clubs, the likes of Stoke and Reading have enourmous overspends and that cannot be all due to Covid. They must be waiting for a 12+ point deductions. Others must be struggling so I dont think we will be alone on minus points.
I do feel that the EFL have things to answer here and it would not suprise me if that was in court. We well overspent for a couple of years but they (EFL) have not acted in an honourable and acceptable manner.
I dont think this is over yet

And how has that helped us Macca? Derby County is bigger than Wayne Rooney. Let’s put the manager situation to one side for now. We need new owners in ASAP and then take it from there eh. At this moment in time who the Manager is is pretty irrelevant. We need to make sure there is still a club left to manage…..

Dropped my eldest son off in at Uni for the first time yesterday who I am very close to and get the Derby news over the radio on the way back. Talk about kicking a man when he's down.
Walking around this morning in a bit of a daze - feels like there are 2 big holes in my life!
kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong reacted to RadioactiveWaste in so if RONNEY walks.....
I would guess WR would either resign or be asked by the administrators to leave in a negotiated way to cut costs. Only way I see Rooney staying is if he basically decides he's going to do it out of charity (or at the outside chance he has some involvement in a rescue plan, but I'd think that unlikely).
I would think most likely would be the administrators appoint someone on the coaching staff already at the club who is qualified and willing to do it. It's unlikely they'd hire anyone from outside.

The young players seem to admire and respect Rooney, if Williams is anything to go by, as do (all?) the experienced players, especially those who signed (or would have) for peanuts! He and his team are showing the intent to play good football. I hope Rooney and Liam et al stay. #COYR

I'll admire Rooney if he stays on zero wages...I doubted that he stayed with us for the love of the club, suspecting that he had no other management options at the end of last season but this might prove otherwise if he essentially carries on with no significant pay.
I can't help but feel that he's extremely naive though and has had the wool pulled firmly over his eyes...he clearly didn't see this coming despite all the signs being there and he couldn't of been in a more advantageous position to be in the know.
Im honestly still not sure if he's not a little dim, extremely stubborn or a combination of both.
Whatever though,he is all we have and we absolutely have to get behind the squad today, who are already hurting from this...I know we all imagine them to be living the dream with huge houses and fast cars (and they are!) but we all spend to our means and not being paid is no different to one of us suffering the fate and wondering how we are going to pay the mortgage this month.

When are Fans going to wake up and stop with this “ one of our own “ nonsense?. This is all on MM for his running of the club, his egotistical behaviour towards EFL….you poke the bear and you get mauled.
I am pretty sure because of the evading of accounts being submitted that this could be a reason for the withholding of the £8.3 million others had.
Mel to blame and we will be league one next year so for a couple of years have a chance to build at last, it will be three seasons before we are back where we are now with an embargo. If we can get our heads round that we will have a chance to be semi decent again on and off the pitch.
kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong reacted to Warwick Ram in Time to walk away Wayne
What I mean by he got the job by default is he was already on our books as being paid. Regardless of what people think 32red will not be paying all his wages.
If we had brought in a new manager that means additional costs, for example another wage to pay, that we could not afford.
We just changed his role but the cost remained the same.
Yes, Chris Hughton has failed at Forest but his record elsewhere is good. Promotions with Newcastle and Brighton plus guiding Birmingham to the play offs and keeping Norwich in the Premier League (many others have failed to do this).
I would still take Hughton over Rooney but that is my opinion.
kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong reacted to LeedsCityRam in Rate Mels tenure from 1 to 10
Fair play for posting an opinion against the grain but do take issue with it. I was in the away end at Elland Road that night too but frankly if administration was the ultimate cost of sticking it to Leeds & swaggering around the Championship for 5 years, then it was very poor deal indeed.
At least when Leeds blew up & ended up in League One, they'd got to Champions League semi finals & threatened a title push. Our 'glory' was one playoff final appearance (under Mel) & a couple of decent cup results under Lampard. Thats even below our historical average in terms of performance.
Awful thing is Mel's cash (spent wisely) allied to the 13/14 squad was an amazing oportunity to not only go up but stay up & make a positive impact in the Prem. Heartbreaking really.

Needless to say, today's game is huge.
If we lose, we lose, but we need to see the players leave everything on the pitch, IF they do that, as Wigan did, dare I say we stand a chance of surviving, albeit a slim chance.
Now if they walk out, heads down looking defeated then it's finished, we're down without a fight and I fear Rooney will walk despite showing incredible loyalty so far.
The players need to step up for him, if not for us, and we, as fans, love him or hate him need to give him all the backing we can starting from today.
We do not want to be on the lookout for a new manager whilst in administration, a squad full of kids.
-12 is a given, we know that's coming as it's been confirmed, however if the EFL write off all the other potential punishment as they did with Swindon due to new ownership, we may be in a position to bring in some new faces in January.
Let's be honest, the EFL are not out to punish us, the fans, the club itself. Their crosshairs are lined squarely on Mel's forehead. If he's out the picture, they may lower their weapons.
Understand this is all very optimistic given what has happened, the odds are not stacked in our favour, however I can't sit here and demand the players do not walk on to the pitch today already defeated whilst having that attitude myself.
If there ever was a time for siege mentality, this is it.

It’s going to be a tough weekend - my beloved club is being dumped into administration and my only child is going off to start uni tomorrow ☹️
However, my kid will be back in 36 months by which time the Rams will hopefully have had a couple of years of competent ownership with an exciting young team on the pitch and we will be filling three quarters of the stands at places like Shrewsbury & Plymouth en route back to the Championship!
Despite how it is at the moment and how it might be for a while the post-Morris future will be bright!

I know we all knew there were issues with the finances and the accounts and we were going to cop a points deduction. But did any of us think it would be this bad?
Maybe we were all in denial. But with the likleyhood of a minus 21 points deduction and certain relegation the shock waves reach beyond this. This season will be a dead rubber, Rooney is unlikely to stay (can't blame him TBH) and we'll sell players in the January transfer window.
I'm sure what the future looks like will start to unfold in coming weeks and months. When I woke up this morning I felt like I was still I'm the middle of a bad dream. But no. It's reality. The future of the club we all love and cherish is teetering at the brink.
So this one goes out to all of you fellow Rams fans. Take care, try and stay positive and in adversity let's stick together as this wonderful club has some of the best fans in the land.
Yours Sheff Ram x

I dont think liquidation will happen at all
DCFC has had low debts but its has been going up since Covid whereas the company that owns DCFC has £60m debt to Mel personally
I think Mel will try to clear the debt as much as possible on the club(going to administration) and move forward trying to secure the sale of the holding club for a reduced fee, unless he is arrogant enough to want his full investment back
However as I said before we aren't an appealing prospect, there has been a huge lack of transparency with the club and there has been reluctancy to show anything.
We dont know who owns the club and whether a relegation, would mean a reduced rental fee
We dont know the state of the training ground, there is said to be a loan taken out against it and land charge on this or the stadium, I would say our training ground and academy, aren't as good as made out by people in Derby, we are one or two levels behind the top PL academies(Tottenham, Chelsea, Man City and etc.) and below the established academies(Southampton, Fulham and etc.)
This is why we are struggling to shift the club. Potential investors are finding this stuff out deep in to the process rather than it be readily available
I said this would happen in March, despite people saying otherwise.
IMO, the biggest failure was not doing this and the points deduction last season, we could have started a fresh last season and moved forward with a clean slate. Mel has too many smoke and mirrors, that its hurting the club and unfair to the fans

Agh, it just makes me so angry. How badly do you have to have run things if you are worth half a billion yet your only choices are to sell the club to whoever will buy (to pay for your expensive mistakes), or to put the club you claim to love in administration, forcing them into a lower league and undoing years of work on the academy/developing players, who can now leave for peanuts? 'The EFL made it hard to sell...' Cry me a river. You are only so desperate to sell because of the consequences of your decisions. It's your mess, no one else's.

Unlikely to be paid this month (or a few more) an uncertain future etc, etc.
I'm not sure how either Rooney or the lads are going to get Uber motivated for this one.
They have just had the stuffing kicked out of them.
