Hull are north and they're managed by LR who brought CH to Derby, an easy link to be made.

Northampton were poor tonight or was it that Derby were really good? They haven't lost by more than one goal all season and have played against the 4 teams directly above us, actually beating Peterborough. So they weren't cannon fodder going into tonight's game. Remember, non of the goals were the result of defenders mistakes, all four were crafted by Derby. What percentage of goals have we conceded this season because of individual errors?
Big shout out to the officials, clamped down one bad tackle in the second minute but then allowed a proper man's game by letting the game flow with a few niggly 'fouls' for either side being ignored. Washington's booking was justified for stopping a potentially dangerous break.

@RoyMac5 what was funny about my earlier post? Are you that entrenched in your views that you genuinely cannot bring yourself to give Warne even the slightest bit of credit in isolation for tonight’s performance?
I’m not excusing the season, or the falling away towards the end of last season, but surely Warne got something right tonight?

Yet another disguised anti Warne thread that I've been sucked into with the same old arguments from the same old posters from either side, it's getting boring.
Can the mods rename the topics for what they are, I suggest this one should be 'Anti Warne Part 27' or if we want to keep in the same vein maybe 'Sam Rush Ate My Hamster'?

It's a valid point, but I don't think it reflects vulnerability.  A mistake maybe, but both cash and Fozzy are decent enough in the air. Honestly, I thought it was one of the most controlled performances I've seen from us in ages. I don't think they had a single shot on target. I thought we worked really hard in front of the back 4 too, so you could argue it was not their toughest night, but to restrict any team in the way we did last night, I thought spoke volumes. It wasn't a flashy performance, but it was a thoroughly professional one.
Massive tangent, but how good is it to see a resurgent Max Bird? No more the callow youth! There's an innate swagger to the young man's work right now and I like it. He'll face stiffer challenges ahead of course, but he looks on really good terms with himself and his game and you'd think his form is likely key to our chances this season.
Needs minding please Mr Warne! 🙏

I was surprised that the headed clearance from their defender, when the keeper was well beaten in the first half, didn't make the highlights show.
On the match, I felt that our players are still short of confidence, but this improved slightly as the match continued. Hopefully, a run of 2 or 3 wins on the trot, will change this and then these same players could really click and go on a great run of results.
One final point, I wish that CH, the player with the most goals from outside the penalty area in the last few years of the Premier league, would try curling a few into the top far corner of the goal. It doesn't need power, a player of his ability should be able to lift it over the defenders and out of the goalkeeper's reach, if he can do it against the world's top keepers in the Premier, he should be capable of the same with lg1 keepers. The rest of the team also needs to help create the space for him to do this.

For those criticising the decision to take Sibley off, both he and CH had picked up stupid yellow cards, it wasn't worth risking a sending off over a silly foul from either of them. As for taking Wilson off, Barks needed to come on against a tiring defence and NML was putting in a man of the match performance, so Wilson was the obvious choice, especially as he's just come back from injury.

Let's look at some of the so called 'big clubs' that others have compared us with. All of the following played to sell out crowds in the Premier, but look at their attendances after dropping down to the Championship, never mind lg1.
Teams like Cardiff, QPR, Stoke, Boro are all playing in front of 1,000s of empty seats, you can only imagine how many more empty seats there would be in lg1.
It's difficult to define a big club, some have compared transfer fees paid out, it's hardly surprising that we can't compete after not being in the Premier for so long, but if a team like Man U ever fell down the leagues for many years, they would always be a massive club. In my opinion, it takes a sustained period of time for a club to become a 'big' club and likewise a long period of time for a club to completely lose that status. Teams like Bolton with a history further back than us, still hold some kind of 'bigness' from that successful time many years ago.
Teams like Stoke, QPR and Cardiff have won the fairly recent lottery of promotion to the Premier and the fortune of being owned by very wealthy people. If they came down to lg1, their crowds wouldn't compare with those at PP, the away support from small clubs wouldn't compare with those at PP and those small club's home attendances wouldn't match those when Derby were the visitors, the reason being that none of those clubs are as 'big' as Derby. Success is the only thing that those clubs had going for them but success isn't everything, are clubs like Fester and Wigan bigger than Newcastle and Spurs because of fairly recent trophy wins?

I think CH has a role in certain types of matches.
Since 2011, nobody has scored more long range goals from outside the penalty area. This should be utilised when playing against a packed defence. He needs to find space outside the box and be picked out, rather than just aimlessly pumping crosses into the middle. Given a bit of space and time, there should be no better player in this league for being able to pick his spot.
Whether it's starting against a defensive team or coming on against a team defending a point or points.
