Just a thought but perhaps you'd enjoy your football more if you didn't set the 'expectation bar' so high that you believe beating Bristol to be some sort of divine right.

I’d advise these lot to find something else to watch. As they obviously have no idea about football.

Cocu only plays subs to change the balance of the game. You could argue we’re still looking pretty good for a goal. Just been some proper pap defending and not getting the rub of the luck on second balls.

Edit: Although I’d still bring Marriott on to run at them!

You can point to the home and away record which is baffling in itself, but when you break it down - it's outrageous:
Goals scored at home - 23 in 16 games - joint 10th in the league with Hull.
Goals scored away - 17 in 16 games - joint 16th in the league with Reading & Stoke.
Goals conceded at home - 11 in 16 games - best in the league.
Goals conceded away - 33 in 16 games - second worst in the league, only to Luton.
The goals scored, you can sort of account for and it's not an outrageous difference, but how does the same team concede THREE times the goals in the same amount of games based on the location they play? I think you could look at every league in world football and not find another club that's even remotely close.
I thought tonight we played much better than I've seen for the most part of the season, but away from home we just concede really soft goals that we have almost eradicated completely when at home.

I love the fact that Max always comes to show for the ball. He never hides, and he always comes to take responsibility for it. It's so easy to forget he's only 19. I thought he always looked for the progressive pass where it was possible.

Some thoughts on individual performances FWIW...
Hamer - Not at his best tonight
Bogle - Bit of a nothing performance, defensively and in attack
Wisdom - Oh dear! Calamitous in every way
Clarke - Better than some around him but that's not a ringing endorsement tbh
Lowe - Poor first half but much improved after the break
Bird - Oozes quality and is improving hand over fist - Derby MOTM by a street
Rooney- Another strong showing, along with Bird he bossed the midfield
Holmes - Quiet first half but much more himself after the break
Waghorn - Not a MF and unsurprisingly looked better once moved alongside Martin
Martin - Subdued first half but much better in the 2nd and duly got his goal
Lawrence - Surprised he had a shirt on his back by the end of the game - targeted by Bristol and given zero protection by the officials
Cocu - Liked the initial line up and certainly we dominated all bar the last 10 minutes of the first half. All planning undone by our defensive woes and some poor decisions in the final 3rd. Switched to something more like a 4-4-2 and got us back in the game but perhaps it was too little, too late.
Match Officials - I hope there's a special place in hell for refs as poor as tonight's myopic homer. Best leave it there really!
Summary - Some really good possession based football but we are remain short on quality at CB and perhaps between the sticks too. Our FBs have abundant potential but must show more awareness and must also work far harder to prevent oppo wingers crossing. Certainly a world away from the stuttering early season performances, and that's great to see but still much work to do. Hard to be too grumpy though now that we are at times playing such lovely stuff.

Bristol city we're a bit lucky to win that weren't they ? As daft as it sounds the only thing they did well was there goals and then shut up shop.
Our performance was ok , passed the ball well , especially on midfield . Bird was fantastic yet again .

Loads of positives to take from that performance. The midfield trio of Holmes, Bird and Rooney has a lovely balance to it. The first time in years I feel that we have the blend right. Let’s hope Bird can keep progressing because he was class again. Keep playing in this manner for the rest of the season and next year will look very promising.
Unfortunately the defending was garbage. Wisdom had a shocker. He got pushed away for the 2nd and then lost his man for the 3rd. He has brain freeze moments. He has done well but that was poo today. Full backs also weak defensively today, although Lowe was very good 2nd half. Overall a positive defeat. Onwards and upwards.
Finally, Cocu was entirely right not to make a sub. We were bossing it, looking the more likely. Why change it for a player who could take 5-10 mins to get up to speed?

It takes a lot more work and effort  from the coaching staff to get us playing like we did last night than just wanting a quick fix by buying players
It is very commendable that Cocu in his short tenure here has a few different formations that he can call on and that players like Martin can be used when needed yet not be entirely missed when left out meaning we aren't reliant on just one formation unlike the Mac days ( good as they were )
Pep took a season to get City playing how he wanted and had bundles of cash to help him along but i saw a lot of similarities in our play last night
It is evident we are progressing and yet Cocu had no new signings in Jan so it is very much down to the hard work on the training ground which is showing more now.
The City style play we saw at Brizzle was excellent to watch at times with players dropping short into pockets of space and giving easy options to keep the ball with an option of an occasional long ball.
Of course City can make this transition a lot easier with outlets with pace like Sterling etc but to see us play with such control was a real pleasure to watch and with a few tweaks here and there especially defensive wise i think we can look forward to some exciting times.
Cocu and his team really do deserve some praise because the rotation of positions  when we have the ball and the emergence of players like Bird who looks so comfortable in midfield is starting to really look good so credit where it is due
If we keep playing like this and get better defensively we will win far more than we lose.
Was also quite significant that Cocu mentioned that the defensive frailties are something that needs to improve so maybe expect some changes in the summer as players who cannot defend or learn from there mistakes might be replaced I would think

Errrrrrr, we are in massive need of building.... we have a mix of players from different managers that struggle to play together.
You talk about a manager who can get 100% out of his squad, we have tried this before... you do remember what happened after Billy Davies? Paper over the cracks, promoted with players that just couldn't hack it in the pl.  Frank Lampard did the same, albeit with far more style, but the end result was still failure, but nothing was built...
The last time we stuck by a manager, Nigel Clough built the basis of the best side in the last 15 years. We need this again with Cocu, we just cannot keep employing different managers in the hope we stumble across a formula, it doesn't work.
Furthermore, we have no money, so anyone coming in cant bring their own players.
The green shoots are now clearly evident and the future looks bright.
You are right about Cocu too, he would be great at those clubs in the premier league let's hope they dont try to to sign him!!!
