Anon reacted to Ghost of Clough in xG - hype or valuable stat?
xG is a useful tool if used correctly. Give Chris Martin and Connor Sammon exactly the same chance and they'll have the same xG, but one of them will be more liekly to score as he's a better finisher. Unsurprisingly, the teams who create a high proportion of chances for their best finishers also outperform their xG as a team, whilst the team creating chances for poorer finishers underperform.
xG is a better metric than shots as it gives meaning to the shot - the chance of scoring from 1 yard out will be significantly greater than 40 yards out.

Musk and Trump both appeal to pathetic and weak men. Because they are so obviously pathetic and weak themselves.
They think - if these fellow pathetic insecure people can become rich and powerful, then maybe one day I can too
Except - becoming rich and powerful doesn't make anyone happy. It hasn't worked for them and it won't work for you either

Fun fact: He suffers from a rare condition that means he's unable to extend his arms above head height.

I thought the same after watching the goals. I have no idea what they're crying about with the 2nd. I doubt Roos will be Warnock's cup of tea, so he won't last much longer.
By the way, anyone who thinks we're too negative on here should go and read some threads on the Aberdeen forum. I think I'd be miserable too if I had to watch the SPL every week, but I feel like asking for a welfare check on some of the posters on there.

Perhaps we could have a thread where people post appalling things that Musk has said, then Carl explains to us why Musk said it and why it's a perfectly reasonable point of view.
He's made a valiant effort on explaining what Musk meant by "the deep state making kids LGBTQ and the dems starting a civil war". A possible criticism is that he only really focused on the T part in the statement Musk agreed with. Did Musk only really mean T too, or does he really think kids who might fancy boys and girls are also being controlled by the shadowy elites? Only 2 men know the answer to this.
The "civil" war part is also interesting language in the context of the siege in DC a few years back. When people actually died. Best to ignore that crass part of the statement too, so what if Musk says the odd thing. It's not like anyone would mis-understand his intelligent reasoning, we all know that no one has ever been insprired by hateful rhetoric to carry out barbaric acts. Gods like Musk bear no responsibility for their words of wisdom, for they are above us.

Seen both the goals:
First one he could've easily parried away from the striker, poor goalkeeping.
Second was a good save from him from a very decent Lawrence strike which was moving all over the place, defenders should've done better.

Anon got a reaction from Grimbeard in Steve bloomers washing errrrr I mean watching
Personally I like Steve Bloomer's Watching. I agree with many of the problems you've highlighted with the song, but I like that we have our own song about club legend rather than recycling other clubs' chants or crap pop songs. The idea that a f****** U2 guitar riff of all things would inspire or intimidate anyone is unbelievably quaint.

Anon got a reaction from Carl Sagan in Joey Barton sacked
I agree with Barton on female ex players moving into commentary, but only in certain roles. In terms of presenters or play by play commentators or match reporters there should be no issue with females in the role since it's been established that first hand experience as a player isn't required to perform this job well. It's a bit different once we get into the colour commentator and post match analysis roles. For better or worse the precedent exists that these roles apparently require first hand experience of having played the game at a certain level. The counter argument made is that the mechanics of the game are the same whether its played by men or women, so an ex female player should be just as capable. But by that logic, aren't the mechanics of the game the same between Premier League and National League (tier 5)? Yet, it would be unthinkable for Sky/ITV/BBC to pack a studio with guys who had only ever played at tier 5 or below.

That's a valid argument. I've said previously in this thread that I rarely pay any attention to punditry because it's saturated with boring ex pros. My problem is that the TV executives think they're solving an issue by replacing boring male ex pros with boring female ex pros.
Surely it's more an old boys network, rather than a class system though? I'd have a hard time arguing that Rio Ferdinand is a blue blood.

It wasn't all about his footballing ability (or lack thereof) though. He was a partyboy with a terrible attitude toward all the things you need in order to make it as a pro footballer.

Martin is a bad example here because he never could run around. Gayle was a pace merchant. He would need to significantly adjust his game if his legs have gone.

Agree with Malcolm and I wouldn’t pick him anyway but he’s definitely behind Hourihane, Adams, Thompson and Fornah now. Why would we develop the Bristol player? He’s crap anyway 🤷♂️

It feels a bit tinpot doing the loan back thing. I don't blame Bird for leaving, but if he wants to go we should've just taken the money and worked with our other options in midfield. I'm a Derby fan, not a Max Bird fan, so I couldn't care less what he does or how he develops in his career from now on. That's his and Bristol City's business now. In my opinion he should be held to higher standards for the remainder of his time here as there is no longer any argument to be made that we're developing him for our own benefit.

I remember the Dickinson transfer at 750K , it was a gamble and always thought how bad he must've looked in training to never get a chance ...wow ...
