Sorry, but what you have written has demonstrated what the problem is - if you think it is in any way the players' responsibility to put up with this abuse and that it is only a major issues if 'physical or threat of harm' you are totally misunderstanding the issue. This "man up" type attitude is at the route of a lot of people's mental health problems and in posting comments like this you are contributing to its propagation.

Well said that man. No point in opening up that old wound. You're right, Friday was a poignant moment for CM and his fan boys like us. Whilst some of the applause may have been for Marriots contributions to the game, it's fair to say that a lot was for the adulation and appreciation of CM. It was an emotive moment that was deserved and regardless of how it plays out, he hopefully now knows that he is appreciated and adored by the majority of the fanbase.

    Just want to point out.
I made this thread about that moment on Friday night and to say it was a good positive moment. I didn’t want this thread to become about whether Martin has a future or not based on six minutes of timid football. Essentially we have a 30 year old footballer who’s got a point to prove, let’s wait and see what happens.
The last thing I want to do is recreate the pro Martin vs no Martin camps on here like we had on here. All it ended up doing was closedown debate and gave a few WUMs some attention. Martin may find his old form, he may not but that’s a debate for a different day. It’s impossible to say at this moment so it’s probably best to see what happens.

I thought the under 23s match v Man City was scheduled for Pride Park on Friday evening but it's now on at 1 pm on Saturday.
Surely those of us who would have made the effort to go to this will either be at Elland Road or watching the game on tv?
    A bit disappointed.

    Free hit really.
I would expect us to lose but hopefully not a tonking.
Hopefully a hard fought 2-1 with plenty of effort and a bit of attacking belief.
Same team as Cardiff,I have no idea who to play instead of Lawrence...Knight for legs in midfield,I genuinely don’t know.

Excuse this rambling and esoteric post but I just wanted to share some emotions of my busy night when I was honoured to be asked by the club to present the match day ball pre-game.
I was co-ordinating the team of volunteers for World Suicide Prevention Day as you know so was quite tired when I went out onto the pitch with a fellow volunteer to present the ball to the referee.  I couldn't have prepared for the noise that greets you when you follow the two teams out into the stadium - it's awesome and quite overwhelming.
We stood on the touchline while the teams shook hands and then were guided across the grass through the Derby players as they peeled off from the lineups - Clarke passed really close by at speed - as we headed for the centre circle.
Waiting for the referee, I turned and gave a cheeky wave to my husband sat up high in the west stand. I was amazed how close he looked from the middle of the pitch - you really do get a different perspective from there and it has reinforced to me how much our collective behaviour and body language can affect the players throughout the game. A quick shake of hands and a few words with the referee, who was very friendly. Sorry,  I did say 'enjoy the game' to him and he might have taken me too literally!
Next it was back to the lineup with the captains for the official photos. Keogh made a point to say hello to us both which we didn't expect at such a busy time and then all too soon we were escorted back down the tunnel for our thank yous with the DCFC staff.
It was a brief but unforgettable experience, passed in a bit of a blur.
I will particularly remember the time we spent behind the scenes before we went out - we  got to meet and shake hands with Jamie Ward, who was visiting  (another winger like him wouldn't go amiss!)
We stood just behind the dressing room entrances for quite a time and there were a flurry of comings and goings as staff and Sky people were busy preparing for the game. It makes you appreciate what a complex and well drilled routine is in place to make sure everything runs smoothly. We were kept informed and also kept from getting too nervous by Lynne, who was brilliant and explained everything as we waited. I know Lynne as she is a big fan who goes to every away game so it was great to see her in  her official role.
All too soon it was time. It was brilliant to watch Keogh and the lads emerge from 'our' side and presumably the same for the Cardiff guys, who I didn’t even notice!
As we moved forward to take the match ball and our place in the queue, Phillip Cocu came out and stood in the doorway of the changing room and said hello to us, another nice moment.
We could just about hear the usual announcement in the stadium and as we moved forward that wall of sound really does hit you. After last night, I will concentrate even harder on being a positive supporter as now I have literally felt the difference that it makes!

I think it's too simplistic to measure Martin's performances only in terms of goals scored because his game is about so much more than that.
At the moment I don’t see anyone in the Derby side that is regularly creating chances for other players and I still firmly believe that given a real opportunity (not six minutes here and there) that Chris Martin can do that.
I don’t necessarily think he's a long term solution but we need to try something different to what we have done so far this season and he is an option.

The game hasn't changed in 3 years.
I would agree he's looking for a very specific role that not many teams require.
I see a lot of people saying he's the past and we need to move on. I'm ok with that if the future is better players. If we are moving on to Dowell and Lawrence, Jozefzoon and Paterson and Waghorn then maybe the past is better in some situations than the present
Forget goal scoring for a sec. To score a goal you have to have the ball and put in a place you can score from
The ball doesn't do anything when it gets to Dowell or Jozefzoon at best it goes back to safety. When it gets to Lawrence it goes for a run but ultimately ends up back with an opponent. Too often it goes to Waghorn and starts bouncing around all confused.
Martin can play. He may not be the future, he may not be the answer but sticking with this bunch in current form puts too much creative pressure on the back 6.
Them losing the ball so stupidly means Huddlesetinstone gets exposed
I wasn't impressed when we signed Kuqi. But he brought others into the game so much more than the pacey and once promising Luke Moore (who was worse than Leon Best, Blackman etc)
I mean I thought Craig Bryson was way past being of any use. Now I've seen Dowell play I'm not so sure.
I even miss Bradley Johnson!! God I hated his passing but a defensive midfielder with legs? Yes please!
Cocu has to find a way to create some complimentary partnerships. The communication and team work is awful at times. The individual players aren't all that bad but there's not much sign of partnerships at the front end.
I know it was only a friendly against nobodies but when Martin and Marriott played together in pre season their was some nice link ups. Surely worth exploring.

What I always loved about Martin was not how many goals he scored. I was always amazed he scored so many, vos he spent most of his time creating for others. You can get the Bent’s of this world, who will score you 20+ goals, but be a passenger for the rest of the game. A true poacher. But Martin is a creator. A joy to watch when he was flicking cheeky back heels to an onrushing Bryson. Not to mention the freekicks he won to change the tempo, and relive pressure, and the hold up play to bring others into the attack.
Quite similar to Rooney actually. A creator who happens to score a boat load of goals as well.

Exactly.  So why not try an option that might rectify that?
I was a bit disappointed that the substitution was Marriott for Martin, as for me Marriott is the player who would most benefit from Martin's craft.

Too early yet, let Cocu have the time he needs.  We had a shiite pre-season.  We lost PL quality loan signings which we simply haven't (dare I say, couldn't) replace.  We've had a number of key injuries (Marriott, Bogle).  We're starting to utilise promising youngsters (Sibley, Buchanan etc) but they need time.  We still retain a few players IMO we ought to move on as not good, or consistent enough (Bennett, Lawrence).  But things are happening. The signs of the team gelling and improving are there. It needs time.  Time possibly even for the likes of Martin to rediscover his Billy Wizz boots.
I don't go with the transition theory.  For me a new manager equals transition comments as they reshape.  We've had too many changes in that department.  I think Cocu will succeed but he needs time and our patience.  Difficult I know as we expect and want so much.  Personally I am excited about Rooney joining.  Not because he'll score a sackful (if he does awesome) but because he'll bring so much invaluable experience at a time we historically slump.
Yes I want, even need wins, but we need to give this guy some time....unless of course we end up in the bottom 3 then I'll be clamouring for his removal and everything I just said counts for nowt 😉
