I can’t see that Matt Hale has moved home, left his family behind just to see his players have no pathway.

Warne says he would play the academy boys if we had a healthy lead. The trouble is, he struggles to get his teams into a healthy lead 🤣

Oh I'm sure you are just misinterpreting what he said in that interview. 😄
I also wonder what Clowes with his Cat1 Academy thinks.

    One word - patronising.
He will never have any intention of using the academy - he doesn't care one bit about trying to develop players but that's because he doesn't have a clue about developing.
    Rubbish coach - get rid.

    It's unbelievable.
That's like saying to David Clowes 'you might as well close the academy and save your money'.
I wonder what the academy manager and coaches think to that.

The bit in bold is something I’ve been mulling over.
I don’t think Warne is a good long term planner or strategist, he focuses on short term wins.  This may explain his promotions followed by immediate relegations.  In some way, who can blame him when you see the flak for a defeat.  I think we’ll see less U21 layers used in the EFL Trophy, which is a shame as it’s an ideal stage to gain experience.  He wants the short term wins.  He’s more Mourinho than Fergie - Mourinho built teams for the short term, Fergie built clubs to leave a legacy.
For what it’s worth I wouldn’t say I’m pro-Warne but I’m pro-stability as I do think give a manager time we’ll benefit in the long run.  But I’m wavering as to whether Warne is that manager.

Given the strength of the starting 11, my instinct tells me were it not for the international call ups and injuries that bench would not have contained the youth. I don't believe for one second he wanted to use them. I guess the proof will be how much youth involvement we see in the coming games. Does your manager coming out and saying he will only play you if the game is won and 3-0 inspire you?
I don't see anybody arguing that Weston should be a first team regular based on one sub appearance, but the last two games presented an ideal chance to let him get more of a taste for first team football, a taste that he would learn far more from than sat on his ass. If he played well, then he puts himself in the picture, if not, he knows what to work on. Otherwise what does he gain. A reward for him scoring and assisting, we all know Warne loves his rewards.
As for the sub, I understand entriely the reasoning behind it. All it did was give players who weren't playing well, more time to continue. It didn't need the same faces in new places, it needed something different. The result speaks for itself on the effectiveness of his decision.
The last point is purely an opinion formed on the comments Warne has made publicly, the actions he has taken with his team choices. When he started Thompson, his comments after the match were of the "only young bless him". It was very much a picked him because he had to, not because he wanted to. And that is the message I do not like. He played the youth against Wolves because he wanted to rest some of the first team, not because he wanted to see what the youth could do. He is not used to working with an academy and it shows.
I would be delighted to be wrong, because it will be the best for the club. I hope I am.

Lol. All them wide crosses in the second half were having no success at all. So what do we do different. Nothing, other than increase the number of loads in from the wings. Paul Warne is the General Haig of EFL Division One.

An attacking change would have been Weston on, going to '2 at the back', and pushing the 'fullbacks' further forward.
The change he actually made encouraged us to cross it more often as the balance to create through the middle was lost

The use of squad was a question I posed to Warne at the last Fans Forum. His response was "they aren't ready".
His response was flawed for many reasons: there's a difference between being ready for the occasional 10 minutes at the end of games and being a regular full 90 minutes player; a limited number of times he had watched the youngsters; not knowing their names, including Weston who scored a hattrick for the U21s earlier in the day; a lack of experience in bringing youngsters through an academy; involvement in Category 1 academies.
Arguably the biggest flaw is him having a different view to the majority of managers in the game - you don't know if a player is ready for first team football until they're thrown in at the deep end. In the one game they did get, Fapetu and Weston excelled, yet not used again in the two games since.
Whilst Warne admitted (to some degree) that burnout was an issue last season, he refused to admit that the academy could have helped. In low risk scenarios, such as the cup competitions, or being 3-0 up vs Burton and Barnsley, 2-0 vs Carlisle, 4-0 vs Northampton, this is the perfect opportunity to bring first team regulars off with 20-30 minutes to go and give the youngsters a shot to impress. To not even use all our subs and leave youngsters on the pitch is diabolical.
Further to resting first teamers, it also puts the player in the shop window. By playing at League level, they display their ability to earn a loan move as high up the pyramid as their ability deserves. Without that game time, potential clubs are only going off academy level football. Bogle is an obvious example, where we couldn't get him a decent loan because he never had first team football before.
Minutes to academy players is also a selling point to recruit the best possible academy youngsters, AND improves our ability to retain them.

Just to say, we will be clapping from 38.00 to 38.59 - this is technically the 39th minute but of course we all use the term to mean "on 38 minutes".
I'm going to take my scarf too and give it a good twirl for B4.
I think we'll be 3-0 up by then, anyway!

Until the last week it has been a long time since I had been at a Derby Match. My Dad has said I’ve probably seen some of the best football so far this season. So, this thread is starting with genuine positivity from me, as my brother Daniel (B4) would also have done. This match means so much more to the Beavis family than any result. We want everyone to wave their scraves and flanges (not literally, ladies 🙈) and raise the roof for both DCFC and Daniel. Please share the details of the applause far and wide.
I’m reliably told I need to predict a 3-0 win to Derby.
My dad, Andy and I, will be in the east stand, stairway 35. We’ll be having a drink before the match and at halftime. Please do come and say hello.

"Every manager since Cocu" is only Rooney and Warne.
Rooney wanted battlers in midfield - even Bird struggled to get in ahead of Knight and Shinnie. Bird managed to get back in the side with Knight playing on the wing, but when Shinnie was sold Rooney brought another battler into the midfield (Thompson).
Under Warne, Sibley can't have a quiet game because he isn't even allowed to have a quiet half. He scores/assists in 1 game, then if he doesn't do anything in the first half of the following game, he'll be brought off and put on the bench for the next game. Goal against Morcambe, the moved to LWB/LB. Moved back to AM, 2 goals against Oxford, then off at half time in the next game. The same pattern is continuing this season.

The bigger problem is Warne's signings AREN'T playing. Last season's squad wasn't good enough to finish top 6 playing the way Warne wanted. From that most used 11, we've lost McGoldrick, Knight and Roberts, replacing them with Nelson and Nyambe being regualrs, whislt Bradley, Wilson, Fornah and Barkhuizen are close together for that final 11th spot.
We started the summer wanting to recruit for 5 at the back. We got our defensive players in early, but repeatedly missed out on a number of midfield and attacking players. 523, 532, 5212, etc, we kept changing on our number 1 formation based on who we moved on to next. We stopped going for mobile forwards suited to Warne's pressing game, and started to target the older but clinical forwards. They still chose to go elsewhere.
By the end of the transfer window, we had missed out on so many targets, that the squad we had left were mostly suited to 4 at the back, resulting in playing 4231 most weeks. Since we went through the entire summer not planning to play with wingers, we were then put in an awkward position of needing wingers. Our last throw of the dice was trying to tempt Blackett-Taylor away from Charlton on deadline day.
It means that we now have :
Some defenders who were signed to play in a different system. Failed to improve on the best 11 from last season Inadequate depth in key positions Signed injury prone players That may go some way towards explaining the inconsistency of play. The other key reason is player selection, as I explained I an earlier post today - a lack of players in the team who can create from open play without resorting to crosses.

    I see it differently.
I sensed a whole club mentality after the Wolves game. We had two ideal opportunities since to build on that. Particularly Weston. Think how good he felt after the Wolves match. We could easily have given him the last 15 -20 against Barnsley. Then last night, none of those senior players could have any complaints if they got subbed for a youngster. At 3-1 the game was perfectly set for a cup hero, no real pressue, just go out and see if you can get us back in. But no. All that good from the Wolves game wasted. That fire and desire in Weston dampened as he sits and watches players going through the motions. I imagine he feels somewhat deflated.
It just cements my opinion that Warne is not a risk taker and he sees anyone under 21/20 as a risk, with very little trust. For a club with an academy that we have done a lot of work to get back in shape it concerns me greatly.

That's a lovely thought. How about @B4’s Sister starting the Bristol Rovers match thread? No pressure if you don't want to though @B4’s Sister.
How it works is that you continue starting the match threads until Derby lose. In an ideal world this would be the catalyst to us going unbeaten until the end of the season.
You don't need to be technical about it either, @Bwash_Ram never is. Just put something like "Come on Derby, score for B4."
    "What do you guys think?"
