Erm, no - Warne doesn't care about the academy so until that changes I'll keep saying it. I'm sorry.

Remove James Collins and guess what. No way Collins would have scored that

Not pathetic. The team is crying out for a decent striker and maybe we might look better going forward if we can get one in January.

Long balls from back to front too often = giving the ball away …basically ..shorten it up a bit and let’s get up the pitch as a team …quite poor so far and PV are pants must win these sort of games

I'm sorry but knowing someone's name is one of the first things you learn about someone. At the very least it shows how much interest a person has in someone. There are only 65 players in the first team, U21 and U18 squads. If I can recite them all, then the first team manager who works with them on a regualr basis, sees them in training and watches them in matches should also know their names too. These are people Warne should be hoping are ready for his first team squad in the near future so should be getting to know them already.
As others have said in another thread. It's only a recent occurance where the first team staff have been seen to take a more active interest in the U18s and U21s.

Whilst I was surprised we release those players due to a lack of depth in the U21 squad, it made sense as they were at an age where they needed regular football which they weren't going to get here, and despite a lot of early promise injuries perhaps limited that potential.
JBrown was sold in Jan 2022 whilst ABrown chose to go abroad at the end of the previous season (summer 2021).
I don't get the impression that anyone is suggesting the first team is filled with untried academy prospects. However, a lot of people are frustrated that they aren't used more. This was especially apparent in the striking department, when we had a lack of fit forwards who were performing well at the start of the season, with DBrown impressing in pre-season. This was then followed up after Weston had just scored and assisted on his debut, but then not used again despite only having 1 fit forward who is a yellow away from a 1 match ban. On other occasions its when we're 2 or 3 goals up with subs to spare, then we opt to bring experienced players like Bradley on rather than giving experience to youth.

From the Fan Forum, Academy talk started at 14:30 and lasted around 10 minutes.
Q1: Pathway - Wants more through the academy as it means a larger part of the budget goes towards. Talks with other staff regularly regarding the academy. Attended an U21 game earlier that day, didn't know the score, and didn't know the name of the player who scored the hattrick (Weston). He spoke about the upcoming EFL Trophy game against Lincoln and giving academy players game time, but then left DBrown and DRobinson on the bench, bringing only Radcliffe on in the 79th minute. He also said he has always brought players through at other clubs, despite only 3 league players in 6 years Rotherham, with 2 sold before they even established themselves.
Q2: Watching U18/21 games - says he has watched them, even specifies he watches U21 games on Saturdays prior to first team games, even though it's actually the U18s (U21s had only had 2 Saturday games in the past 2 seasons). U21s regularly train with the first team. Buxton feeds him information on who is playing well, and suggested it's Buxton who helps choose who should step into first team training.
Q3: Use of academy - doesn't regret the lack of academy use last season. Says his mistake was not signing players in the January window. Felt no academy players weren't any who were "strong enough to come in". He thinks it's dropping players in to the slaughter rather than viewing it as a key part in their development. His general viewpoint is that a player has to be top half League 1 standard just to get an opportunity in the first team. He highlighted DRobinson struggling vs Chesterfield in pre-season, ignoring how their squad is good enough to be challenging for promotion in League 2 - several players struggled against Crewe over our 2 games agaisnt them.

I think it's great they was there last night, especially the night before the first team have an away game too. I don't think this would have happened before "the talk" that sunny Sunday morning at Clowes pad though.
But, it's all good and well them sat in the stands, we need to see more action on the training pitch and appearances as a first team player.
You don't produce Bellingham players by them playing U21's and below.

Having watched last night I can comfortably say that we have some absolute gems in that age group. Daj Brown looks an absolute beast up front and complements the natural finisher in Wheeldon who looks even more impressive. With the supporting cast of Cruz Allen and Niall McAndrew. I want to say that all of them that I’ve named will make the grade with ease. Those 4 there could be worth big money in 5-6 years time

I know that Matt Hamshaw and Andy Warrington were taking a direct interest before this to be fair. Back in October the academy coaches had considered putting Jack Thompson into the U21 side. Discussions surrounded as to whether or not he was ready to step up at 16. Hamshaw and Warrington watched him in the U18 team and said they wanted to see him in the U21s because they thought he was ready and so he was put in. A friend of mine watched the game on the TV stream last night and he says that Bradley Johnson commented that having Thompson in goal is almost like having an extra defender because he is so good with the ball at his feet and the defence use him in passing out from the back.

In fairness to Warne and his staff this is the first time they have been at a club with an academy. Using the available resources at the right time may be a learning curve for them. The interviews I have seen with Matt Hale, Craig Fleming, Bucko and Danny Maye  are very encouraging for me and I think we may be seeing positive signs of a closer bonding between the first team and academy coaches. I hope so because it can only be for the greater good of the club.

A coincidence it all started visibly happening after DC and Warne's little 'rock on' chat? I think not.

David Clowes and the first-team coaches sat together near to where I was sitting. They also attended the previous tie at Mansfield. Matt Hamshaw and Andy Warrington watched the last 70 minutes of the U21 game against Arsenal on Friday. It's a very recent phenomenon and good to see. None of them joined Nigel Clough on the bench at the U21 game at Mansfield early in the month. Maybe it's not just a coincidence that this has come about since @Ghost of Clough and @Bald Eagle's Barmy Army raised their concerns. I hope so because it's very positive to think that those running the club will take notice of what they see as valid fan opinions.

    So frustrating isn't it?
If you listen back to his interview before the Crewe match in the FA Cup (I think it was the replay) when we were apparently really struggling with injuries, he said that he would have no problem at all playing some of the youngsters.
Then miraculously he managed to cobble a team together without any youngsters, and despite the crap performance, he refused to bring them on.
As someone else on here pointed out, not only is his approach blocking the development of our own youngsters, it must be having a real impact on Academy recruitment, when there is no obvious pathway into the first team squad.

In my opinion, the criticism of Warne is fully deserved. The results are only just acceptable; the standard of play is sometimes good, but often poor; a couple of players aside, his signings are average at best; his use of the academy is awful; management of players fitness and doing his best to keep them injury free is shockingly bad.
However, there are enough positive signs to keep me clinging to the hope that he can take the club where it needs to be. Other people have different opinions, including those who don't think he is capable of improving, so think it's best to part ways now. That's their justified opinion.
A united club isn't one where the manager comes out with snide remarks, pushing some fans even further away. He should be doing everything he can to prove them wrong and get them back on board. Your comments are just as bad because they're divisive and you gain absolutely nothing from it
