bigbadbob got a reaction from Archied in Serdar Dursun
Exactly. Maybe we offered what we could. Someone offered him more and off he went. Not saying I blame him at all but IF it says something about anyone it maybe says more about him than us. Anyway ancient history, he's gone.

Nope , we offered Chris Martin a very good contract but the greedy disloyal player held us to ransom ,touted round for MORE and left ,leaving us in the lurch in the same way lampard did after keeping his options open for as long as he could , bet he would have stayed if he couldn’t leverage more elsewhere

This whole back and forth on whether we let Martin go or whether he decided to leave reminds me so much of this classic twitter debate.

What we offered him 2.50? Ancient history yet people still keep banging on about it.

Surely by offering him a deal the club made it clear they wanted to keep him
the fact that someone else are in a better Financial position and can offer him a bigger and longer contract doesn’t mean we didn’t want him.
Before u say well we couldn’t have wanted him that much or else we would have offered him what he wanted
remember we gave him and many many others what they wanted to join us .... and subsequently we can’t now
Hence why we’re clearly moving in another direction with free signings and loans ... with the odd relatively low fee even having sold circa 10m of young talent

The club weren't willing to meet his demands. Therefore we effectively chose to let him go.

And while admittedly things aren’t going well on the pitch, We have now gone x number of weeks without paying said wages. This probably covered what we paid for Byrne. Mel has lost 10 million in season ticket sales. If you consider match day revenue from other sources probably covers match day costs it’s that £ 10,000,000 that keeps the club running from a cash flow point of view. Have to be realistic

The main sticking point was him [his agent] wanting a two year contract and us only willing to offer one year. For some supporters it may only be £1m more in wages to spend, but £1m more than we had until we sold two players. Plus Mel's £30m loan he had to get.

Get a grip. If your contract comes to an end and the company offered a new one based on new circumstances and you didn’t take it, it’s not being let go.

If someone said I could carry on doing my old job but we are only paying you £2.50 from now on,I'd pretty much say that they have effectively let me go.

He gone. Time to move on. Dersun, Dersun, Dersun.

Don't get how people can comment a lot of things that they're saying, as if they have full knowledge of how transfers work and how long we have been targeting players.
What's to say we haven't been looking at this guy for a while and he's only just been made available? How do people know what choice target he is?
Transfers aren't simple and don't just happen in the blink of an eye.

What is it about Chris Martin leaving that people can’t understand?
The club didn’t let him go.

..and you want us to sign someone further down the list than the supposed bargain basement option? Shall we scrape the barrel, or do you want to go even lower than that just to say we signed someone?
We'll have to start raising the dead from 6 feet under at that rate!

Bargain basement signing out of necessity.
We're playing hardball because we can't afford to go higher.
We've already emptied our pockets on the table and found just under £1m in cash, a few euros left from our holiday, a post office receipt, a button, a conker, and an extra strong mint covered in fluff.

Give Derby a call mate, you clearly have much more of a clue on how to run a club than those useless clowns running Derby. They’ll probs give you the job hey

How do you know we weren't? Not aimed at you but so many people who use this line of complaint act like they could bring in players quicker/easily.

Just like the Jozwiak saga this keeps dragging on and on, and its incredibly frustrating.
Maybe he will be worth the wait, maybe not, but surely we should have been starting this process in August, not at the end of September.
My gut is it won't happen, and he'll sign a pre-contract in January ready for next season. With that breaking down I expect a loanee in toward the end of the window at best, either some ageing journeyman or at the other end of the scale an unproven teenager from the PL.
