Dove Inn on Doncaster Road. Both sets of supporters in there. Good atmosphere, good beer and just 15 mins walk to the ground.

So relieved we've got Gayle signed up - Saturday was all the evidence needed to prove this side will struggle without a conventional forward option. Irrespective of lack of match sharpness, he has to start at Barnsley to stretch the pitch or we're going to struggle to get out of our half - if he can give us 60 mins, they will likely have tired enough by then for us to be able to escape the press.
Am not particularly concerned about his spell at Stoke - that club is a graveyard for decent managers & players and given the sheer squad size they have, must be difficult to get consistency in selection & therefore performance. Looking at the highlights reel from last few months he still has plenty of attributes that I believe will make him a success here - quick feet, great decision making, vision/awareness of other players in the final 3rd and a decent finish. Being a stocky type with a low centre of gravity, I'd also like to think he could hold the ball up reasonably well & am looking forward to seeing how he links up with Mendez-Laing & Barkhuizen. Warne will no doubt want him pressing like Collins but that might be a couple of games down the track once he is up to match fitness.

Chuffed to bits with this. All just feels like things are dropping into place nicely at long last. Derby County, League One Champions... Has a nice ring to it, I reckon.

    CBT will be fine.
He has played 1.5 games in four weeks so he is obviously not fully fit nor up to speed.
It’s a shame he has not hit the ground running but there is no point in writing him off.
Mendez Laing, Barkhuizen and Wilson have all had spells in the team where things haven’t clicked but they have bounced back and performed.
I am pretty confident he will come good.

I genuinely don’t get why people are seemingly looking to downplay a 3-0 away win with comments along the lines of “based on chances we didn’t deserve to win”
Factually we won 3-0 away from home on a Tuesday night in February, why not just enjoy it instead of trying to disprove it?

I’m not putting a narrative on anything, the OP essentially said people aren’t free to comment on our league position and that it’s not “helpful” without much context as to what it’s supposed to be helping.
Posters on this forum and fans of this club are as entitled to look at the table as it stands and go “oh we’re second in the league still, so despite the poor performances at times we still stand a chance of promotion”. That’s still possible isn’t it? Mathematically so at the very least.
And posters like yourselves and others are also within your rights to say “yeah but what happens after that IF we get promoted”. I’m not saying you can’t, that’s the funny thing around here, posters from both camps seem keen to tell people what they can and can’t feel about the club.
I’m not telling anyone to think otherwise, I am saying I think it’s a fair comment to look at the league standings and say we still stand a chance of being promoted. That’s not a narrative, it’s a fact, until it’s mathematically impossible that chance still stands.
The narrative aspect is what you’re talking about, that’s a narrative, the concerns (some valid and some weirdly personal and dismissive) about Paul Warne’s suitability to the club and its long term prospects. And as I’ve said many many times, if he ultimately proves not to be the man for the job he’ll be off and someone else gets a turn. If he is, the club is successful, hooray. All the binary stuff on here that you either have to be one thing or the other is more depressing to me than the football Warne serves up.
We are still second in the league, whether that’s down to the poor standard of opposition or not, that’s where we currently sit in the standings. Bolton are not guaranteed to win their game in hands just like they’re not guaranteed to lose them.

I can't help thinking that if it had been the opposite and Bird had signed a new contract and Cashin been sold and loaned back, then the reaction of a very vocal few would have been very different.
I admit, I find it a strange operation all round considering Bristol apparently have been trying for a while to get the signing done. Surely it could have been moved on quickly, giving us a chance to sign a striker? With the deal that we have come to it is obvious that Bristol really wanted to sign Bird now rather than wait until the summer, or they could have just waited and if needs be increased his wages to get him to sign.
Anyway, thanks Max for all you've given to the club. Thanks for sticking with us when others took what looked like the easy way out. Now show the idiot element what you feel for this club and help us get promotion.

Real world point.  How many times do we reach a point, in any job, where we want to move on - no difference for footballers than the rest of us.  His contract is up in the summer and we'd get nothing.  If he wants out at which point he'd have just left; as things stand, he is staying until end of the season (as he would have anyway), we get paid for him.  BC get to know they have their man next year.  Everyone is a winner - so yes this is a win for all sides.
Footballers are employees and we'd drop them as quick as you like, so them wanting what's best for themselves seems perfectly fair enough.

I’m loathed to say anything as my lad has told me a few things he’s heard Max say, more so Sibbo. The pair of them were very proud to come through our academy, they are professionals and want the best career’s possible. One day many might hear a story, a younger Max wasn’t that complimentary about Cocu at one point “allegedly” I’ve heard, but he’s always sought to improve his game and why shouldn’t he want new challenges, maybe better money etc.
Some comments are so savage, like we’re entitled to own careers or gain promotions. The same kind of comments that wrote off Morgan Whittaker and said good riddance etc; yet it was clear he was still developing and now look. Just maybe Max needs to move to develop his game more too; after all plenty day he’s not suited to Warne’s style, similar to Hourihane, can’t play together you name it.
Why can’t people be happy we’ve developed a young lads career, enjoy what he gave and wish him well; more so if we made what the club feel is decent money!

Weird analogy, especially when nothing has been decided for this season yet.
If those signings (which I agree some of which could have been avoided) get us promoted won’t they have added value?
Also, while Warne is part of the blame for recruitment, haven’t we told by Warne and others at the club on more than one occasion that recruitment is currently a committee process involving at least Warne, Thomas and Pearce? They’re all involved in the decision making process around the player and the finances, not just Warne.

No. It wouldn’t be appropriate. Applaud him when he’s warming up and when his name is announced. After that, for the next 90 minutes, he’s a player for the other team. Applaud him if/when he gets substituted and at the end but not during the game.
