Sir Cocu's calm and precise analysis of the Stoke match surely shows a master at work.
He's unhappy at four points lost, despite a far from ideal and rather short pre-season. This shows the high winning standard he has set for the squad. No talk of the last 12 games being the key to promotion - every game is the key to promotion from August onwards.
He explains how he saw the first half today and why he made what some saw as baffling changes. He then describes succintly the resulting improvement whilst calmly listing the failings which need to be eliminated.
He doesn't talk about Plans A or B, he analyses what's happening in the match and changes formations, tactics and players as soon as the need is evident.
Our captain who's had more than his fair share of club and international managers, says training is an eye-opener. Gradually, we can see why.
Sir Cocu is taking our club to a higher level than I can recall in many decades. No banal generalities, no superficial banter with the interviewer. The players ere expected to work hard mentally as well as physically.
It seems to me that Frank relied on a team formula of hard work, energy, and pressing whilst he motivated the players with his personality, humour and winning determination. Frustratingy it didn't always work, especially away to inferior teams. In contrast, our new management is more cerebral and concentrates on developing each player's technical and positioning and adaptability skills, as well as the team performance. So those players of any age who want to improve themselves and be stretched will relish the fabulous opportunity. Those that don't or can't will fall by the wayside, if the steely glint in the manager's eye is anything to go by.
Of course there will be setbacks and disappointments. But there's some real building work going on here and it's a privilege to see it unfold.
Thanks DCFC for the astute and synergistic investment in facilities and management.

Cocu is just steadying the ship so to speak and sticking to what he has already said and far from a panic buy. Cocu has brought him in on a 12 month loan to improve in a position where we are struggling, if Cocu thought he wasn't an improvement to that position he simply wouldn't have signed him unlike some previous managers we have had. He obviously thinks Academy players coming through for that position aren't there yet but in 12 months time will be or he may have been tracking players who are in the last 12 months of their contracts but with the amount of crazy money being quoted for "average" players in this window thought it not worth following up but going back for them in the January window 6 months left on their contract and getting them in at a price for what he thinks correct once he has had time to further evaluate the squad, player improvement etc.
Have i an issue with his previous antics,no what was said was said move on,you can guarantee this would have been brought up in the meeting between club and player before signing him. I expect all players to give 100% when they pull that shirt on. Do i think he will upset the harmony in the dressing room no, i trust our captain to deal with that, if he tried too Cocu would have him out of the door in a flash no matter how well he is performing, players have a responsibility to the manager/club both on and off the field. Do you not think that the other players, management and club will be watching his social media accounts.
Anyway that's how i see it , others may not

    Villa fan in peace.
i comment a few times in the lead up to our game in May. It’s tough losing a playoff final, we did it 12 months previously. Since then you have also lost your manager which is also a bit rough. However, u have got Cocu in to replace Frank. Imo a far better manager than Frank will ever be, he was my first choice when we got Smith. You played some cracking football against a team just relegated from the PL and now you have pulled off the Championship transfer of the season in getting Rooney. He will be brilliant for you guys and will bring a great lift to the club in Jan for your final push to the auto promotion spots. Well done to Mel and Cocu for pulling that out of the bag.
Good luck this season and I hope you get promoted, I am just hoping we don’t pass you on the way back down next summer

Lampard didn’t get back from holiday until Friday.
If it helps you sleep at night thinking it was delayed for FFP, plump up that cushion and put your feet up.
I don’t think you will find a single person at the club who didn’t want this wrapped up weeks ago, money in the bank and new manager on his 5th Colin Gibson interview already after working with the players.

People shouldn’t be slagging FL off. He has chosen to go to the club he loves and spent 13 years with, can’t blame him tbh. I’m disappointed he’s going but that’s life poo happens!! I’m just annoyed how long it’s all taking and how it affects our preparations for the coming season. Hopefully by Wednesday he’s gone and we have a new manager in place (Cocu) please Mel. 😃👍🏻🐏
