I actually feel sorry for Warne tonight. I didn’t see the game, but just watched a few highlights.
He is imo out of his comfort and ability zone, and I would happily see him go, but he had a bum steer today what with Cashin most likely not in the right frame of mind, Thommo (and some legs) not available to him in midfield, Rooney’s injury, Bradley (his big summer signing) making another poor mistake, having to play 45 minutes with 10 men, and a flukey deflected winning goal for Bolton.
That doesn’t though excuse a performance where as a team we only could put 200 passes together (120 successful), and one shot on target (presumably the penalty). There really must be a major flaw in his system, not just bad luck, that has contributed to todays result. We do have some very good League 1 standard players. They should be performing better.
That all said, If we had got a point today, it would have been a very good point.
David Clowes is unlikely to sack Warne yet; I think we must all know that. The international break has come at a good time for us, and Warne. Hopefully it will help some players recover from injury, Bird, Barkhuisen, Thommo and Sibley, and give some breathing space for Fornah, John-Jules and Embleton to settle into the squad. However, it will hopefully also be a period in which Warne (and his coaches) realise that they must be doing something a lot better with the set of players we have. We need to start playing more controlled football, not simply looking to gas-out the opposition. We really aren’t good enough to do that unless he wants to drop a lot of the older members of the squad. In the next 2 months, with the options he now or will have available, there has to be a discernible improvement in performance otherwise I think fan reaction will force Clowes’s hand.

It isn’t it but it’s hard to watch games like today and be happy with it.
Not saying warne has to go now but can’t be many people left who’d miss him if he left? Am pretty sure most managers could get as much from this group of players as warne is.

This isn't a Derby County I want to watch. I will of course as we all do but I want to see progressive fast fluid accurate passing by good footballers.
I looked at our passing stats for this season and quite honestly they are appalling.
I'm forever in the debt of David Clowse for saving the club but it looks like he has cocked up with Warne to me. He's looking like a one trick pony.

Far from it. I’d absolutely love nothing more than Warne to make me look like a mug. I’ll wipe that egg off my face with glee. I love this club and want the best for it. At the minute the management team isn’t getting the best out of the players, in my opinion.

I have escaped grandad duties for a few minutes. I had to make do with the laughs in this forum - thanks to all who contributed! plus updates from the dcfc text commentary.
So I went from the fear that comes from the defence having less cover at the back than a hospital gown to hearing that Cashin had scored. Then finding out we were 4 - 1, not just sitting level! Wow!
And to hear that Thompson excelled again is satisfying, and actually vindicating  - like many on here I was sure that he should have been given more of a chance last season, knowing what he could contribute to the team. And he is contributing by the lorry-load already. Its just a shame that Waghorn got a hat-trick, because it sounds like he deserved his second MOM in a row!
And well done to the whole team for not collapsing when we went behind, because it could easily have happened.
So: corner turned. So onwards and upwards! What little of upwards is left!

Cashin could be converted into a defensive midfielder where his tackling could be utilised and his lack of pace not exposed.
He’s not bad in the air so would also help shield the back two.
I think that’s how we could use him too when Warne wants more protection. Would allow us to play more progressive midfielders.

Warne comes across as an average manager. He is a manager that meets expectations rather than exceeds them.
I’m pretty sure any manager in League One could have had Derby finishing in the top 8 last season.
If he says we don’t have a top 3 squad, then we won’t finish top 3.
Good managers exceed expectations. Warne got promoted with Rotherham because he inherited a squad good enough to be promoted. He got relegated every season because he couldn’t get that extra out of them.
Rosenior had the same players playing better football and picking up more PPG. We downgraded with Warne.

Am I the only one that was irked by these comments?
Whose fault is it exactly if we are not a top three team in this league?
Perhaps I’m being arrogant/entitled/both but Derby County should be a top one team in League One and if we’re not the manager is also heavily responsible for this.

I feel Hourihane is a luxury, one we can’t really afford when the midfield isn’t functioning well and we’re getting bossed in games. How many games does he end up being anonymous in?
Yet he is our captain and quite possibly our highest paid player, so it puts us in a difficult position.
Granted he does chip in with goals and assists, but if he is unable to help us control games from midfield and as a result take the pressure off the defence, he will cost us goals and results just as frequently.
The Idiakez comparison doesn’t really hold weight. Idiakez was at the heart of everything we did well for a time. Hourihane has nowhere near the same level of impact.

Is it just me or anyone else feel PW is taking a more subdued\contrite tone to his interviews since his post match faux pas on Tuesday night. I sort of detected a more down beat tone to his presser on Friday and his pitch side summary today??

The guy has one tactical set up: press the hell out of the opposition, get it out the flanks and whip it in. Except we've got a midfield and a forward line which can't do what he wants. Instead of adapting to the players, he's trying to force them into his 'way' of playing.  He's got all the subtlety of a bulldog and unless he sells off the team as spare parts and rebuilds with a bunch of dynamo cloggers i can't see the experiment working

Ramzabac reacted to Anag Ram in Michael Smith
I’m all for a big number nine like Smith coming in but we have to have a Plan B.
We don’t have a single forward capable of turning defenders or beating them with pace.
We’re assembling a team of slow players and hoping crosses will lead to goals.
As Wigan (and not Derby) showed yesterday, a well organised defence can deal with crosses from the wing.
Smith will help increase our chances of scoring. Collins seems a lovely character but I think even he knows he’s not a finisher.
But we definitely need a pacy 10 and a driving midfield player or we will struggle this year.

Ramzabac reacted to roboto in Martyn Waghorn - signed a 1-year deal
I think Waghorn returning is a solid bit of business for us in a difficult transfer window where better quality forwards are at a premium.
At this level he should be a real handful for defenders and his positional versatility can see him fitting in quite a few places across the attacking positions

Ramzabac reacted to DavesaRam in Pre-Season Friendlies 2023/24
Well if that is Paul Warne hoofball, bring it on! It was a very enjoyable watch and we gave a good account of ourselves for 80 of the 90 minutes. All three goals against were from our sloppy play - it isn't as though Sheffield United ripped us apart. They did create a couple of good chances, but that was all.
We are certainly showing more aggression and bite in our tackles, and more threatening with crosses and corners, all a plus on recent seasons. To me though, Nelson had a few wobbles with the ball in defence, and Waghorn did his "trapping a bag of cement" impression on one occasion, although otherwise he actually looks like a footballer, so may well do well in this League.
I am taking a different view about Hourihane than most - yes he can be quite creative, but several times in his pre-season he has been guilty of just lumping the ball high and long, more in hope of it reaching one of our players than actually passing the ball. And he often misses the obvious defence splitter, opting to turn and go the opposite way, or backwards. So instead of the creative edge, he ends up breaking up our play, stifling the chance of surging forwards. Just my opinion, mind.
And regards Tommo, caymanram said it well with this: "To be fair he’s up against a quality of player he won’t meet in League 1. His attacking contributions looked good, and I hope he doesn't get a season of being played out of position, or kept on the bench, because pre-season has shown that he has plenty to offer. Your observation also leads us to why it was good to end our pre-season against such strong opposition. Regardless of the result, we won't come up against that quality of performance in League One, apart from maybe just one or two. I think we are looking good for a fun season! Whether we actually have enough to get the job done I have no idea, but I am looking forwards to being there to yell my head off for them!
    COME ON YOU RAMS!
