I think he regularly looks a level above this division. Think he’s bulked up since he first broke into the team and isn’t lightweight anymore. He’s the midfielder I want to see on the half turn receiving the ball because I know there’s an excellent chance it goes forward effectively.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculus - Boly was absolutly reckless in both wearing a notts forest football kit and attampting to play football whilst wearing it. If anything, the outcome will likely be an extended suspension and the club be repremanded for dressing their players like that.

Massive result and a case of job done and move on. Winning when you are not at full flow is so important.
However the performance really underlined that the balance of the team is not quite right. For me, it raised question marks over Ward, Barkhuizen and the midfield. Better teams would exploit these weak points.
The conditions were probably a factor in the performance - it was very cold and windy all day. It certainly looked like it led to some less than composed passes and some unpredictable bounces and movement.
But that aside, you can see why we are amongst the chasing pack and not champions in the making. We are a top six side missing some extra quality and balance to make us a genuine and sustainable top two side.
    Maybe January will help..:

One thing i noticed v Orient and again today, Ward can't defend..yes he can put crosses in the attacking third..but he leaves a massive gap when we are defending.
When fit, I'd play Nyambe all day long..and stick to a back 4...if we don't keep Nyambe, i worry about us achieving promotion.

We're in the 3rd division as the previous owner put us into administration. The EFL then took a chance to stick the boot in by stopping us keeping a 40 year old player, whilst allowing others under embargo to bring in large scale loan reinforcement and also stopped us giving proper contracts to kids on minimal wage that would have  expedited a swifter return on relegation, whilst dumping 9 more points of deduction based on accounting rules that didn't exist.  They followed this up by allowing a couple of chancers to go the faux 'revenge' mission, holding up any sale that may have given us a chance and forcing a sale of the best youngsters and Shinnie for some magic beans.

The biggest issue is that a lot of the players we have are just not capable of doing the job that Warne wants them doing, they were mostly signed to do different jobs in a completely different setup.  Hourihane is not a mobile midfield enforcer, Sibley and Barkhuizen are not flying wingers that can cross, Collins is not a big physical target-man that you can play off, Bird and Smith are not a box-to-box midfielders etc etc etc.  A fair few of the players we've signed this summer seem to fall into this category too, which is even more worrying.
If we keep setting up in ways that require Sibley to hit the byline and cross, or Hourihane to dominate midfield on his own, or Smith to make runs into the box to support the striker etc, then both the team are going to struggle and the players themselves are going to look bad.  Those players are never going to be able to do those things.
So there are 3 options - we replace most of the squad with different players, the manager has a change of heart and completely changes tack, or we get a new manager.  I don't see anything improving until one of those things happens.

Agree, Warne picked the side that should be beating Crewe. But coaching them to play a certain way for this match (obviously done in a training session either this morning or yesterday) and getting it wrong. I'm sorry the buck stops with the manager. Quality and effort was there but can only shine if used correctly and that comes from the tactics and style demanded by the coaches (They got it wrong). Nothing was learned from the first game at Crewe and even when it was'nt going right tonight, the playing style did not change. Thats down to Warne and his coaching team to put right, adapt different styles of play, set up diferent depending on who you are playing to get results.
I was against this appointment when Warne and his circus came in and Liam got pushed out the door. The man is a one trick pony and lesser teams with clever coaches have sussed out a way of beating his teams. We have gone backwards, after 16 games in the league we have already lost 5 games and keeping this form up would see us lose around 14 games by the end of the season. That would most likely see us out of the top 6 again.

Warne sets the game plan. It's like they had collectively forgotten what worked against Northampton.
How many aimless crosses got headed away without a Derby shirt anywhere near it? The two goals we actually scored were when the ball was on the deck and moved at pace.
The players play the way they are told.

He is a slow immobile passenger.
His one decent forward pass, that led Bird's second goal, isn't a good enough a return from a player that some posters extol as a championship level player.
Two other forward passes where straight to the feet of an opposition player and on one of these occasions, instead of trying to get the ball back he turned towards Nelson  gesturing for him to challenge the Northampton player.
If has many fans have stated, that they want to see us playing the ball through the middle of the park that will require a mobile midfield unit and it can't afford to be carrying a passenger
One moment of magic isn't good enough to warrant his being named in the starting line-up

I can't believe he's still here. The only hope is that someone said Clowes never makes quick decisions, but always takes a weekend to think about them.
Before the season, and looking at the woeful quality in the division, I was of the opinion anything less than automatic promotion would be seriously underperforming, given the resources at Warne's disposal. It's only October, but automatics are already gone and people are talking about us getting into the playoffs. The magnitude of Warne's failure is staggering. And there is no indication whatsoever that the football will improve - no green shoots where fans can see a way forward.
Keeping him looks as if it will consign us to several years in Leagues One or Two, as it will simply be a case of managed decline. Given that, Clowes is likely asking himself "was it worth it?" Everyone thinks they will make good decisions and see the team they own rise up the leagues. But the adage about making a small fortune by buying a football club is a truism. Having entered the game, Clowes has put himself in a terrible position where whatever he does likely loses him and his family even more money. But by sticking with Warne, this loss looks all but certain. Twisting and rolling the dice again, at least gives him a chance.

I honestly think we have got the players that are capable to do so much better if they were played in the right positions and told to play football.
Forget this b******* about been aggressive, just play football!!!
For example.. barks and NML have bags of pace so use it,
CH further up pitch to create rather than having 100 touch’s infront of the back 4

I understand that when the football isn’t pretty, and the league position is dire, football fans will inevitably lash out. However, I am amazed that there are a good number on here tonight slating our owner. This is a staggering state of affairs even for our club, only some 15 months since he saved us.  Cool it down lads.

I've been super-critical of the deliberate tactic to NOT play through midfield - something PW stated in one of his interviews recently.
I sense last night's set up and approach, which saw us play more through midfield in the first 2 minutes than in the first 45 on Saturday, was something of a job-saving change of tack by PW.
Does he really believe in that style of play? I hope so because at this level we're very good at it, we'll win more games and it was good to watch.
I don't really get the negativity towards Hourihane - him and Bird were excellent last night and if they are allowed to play through midfield and these two stay fit we'll do well.
Exeter were as good as we allowed them to be. If we'd played with that deliberate play-through-midfield approach on Saturday I strongly suspect we'd have a forum full of posters saying how crap Shrewsbury were.
As for the Collins pile on....yes, he was poor last night and he should have laid off that ball to Barks but, if he had a fiver for every decent run that wasn't noticed or was ignored, he'd be sat on a yacht somewhere.
How many high, long balls against monster defenders did Waggy have to deal with last night......none? How many did Collins have to deal with on Saturday...plenty? I'm one of the few that sees value in Collins in the right team with the right set up but, if playing a shorter CF means we stop lump ball, I'd happily go with Waggy as the CF even though I think Collins is better in that role.
Saturday was rubbish. Last night was very enjoyable because of a deliberate decision to play proper football. Fingers crossed it continues.

When you look at other teams getting there management recruitment spot on I do find myself somewhat envious
It didn’t need to be a so called L1 specialist to get us out of this crap division …just needed a manager to get what Liam had recruited playing cohesively with a few different plans
Leicester recruited a manager from city’s back room staff and watching there highlights this season in pains me to say they will walk the championship he is not a championship expert but knows how to play football and keep the ball …
not arrogance or entitlement at all but we should be the Leicester in L1 …the team to beat ….but quite simply we aren’t and here lies the problem Warne ( who I like ) will not all of a sudden change his own philosophy on how we play so I don’t see a happy ending
any manager that wants to play decent football on the grass and who can coach some resuits from the touch line is what I’d like to see
so a Eustace , Warburton or any manager that encourages domination of the ball and looking after the ball and getting the best out of our midfielders is my wish and hope Warne finds a more suitable team to manage

Lets give it time? We've given it this long and now the top 2 look like they might be out of reach. We give it longer and the top 6 might be out of reach, and then that's another season down the drain. More of our good players like Bird and Cashin will be gone at cut price deals and our squad will get continually worse.
Yes we haven't been that bad but we should be challenging for the top 2 minimum. I don't care if it sounds arrogant. We're the biggest club in the league.
the squad turnover only happened because Warne messed up the transfer window going for a formation change, which he has since abandoned.
I'm not sure better luck with injuries and decisions is going to be enough to change the fact we've been playing some of the worst, one dimensional, predictable and boring football in the clubs history.

No doubt all along the lines of:
'Can't keep sacking managers' - when did we sack the last one?
'Can't afford to sack him' - can't afford to keep him more like!
'Needs his own team' - two transfer windows and 10 signings?!
'He's proven at this level' - but not at this club
Any more that I've missed? None of them positive about his football I bet?!

I thought it might be light hearted, and age related, with regards to Warnock, and I take no offence with any of your post.
However, I do think dinosaur is a decent description of Paul Warne and his methods so far.
He's not a big scary T-Rex though, more a gentle herbivore dino, so he can't quite beat the footballer out of the squad he's both inherited and built.
As a consequence, we've ended up with a ineffective hybrid playing style, where ballers still want to ball, while trying not to displease the boss by running around to no real effect.
His style can work, but he needed to inherit a squad far closer to his ideal than he did, and he hasn't made enough progress to change that squad.
I hoped, on his appointment, that he'd been held back from a more pleasing style of football by the circumstances at Rotherham, and we perhaps offered an opportunity to really build from the ground up a more aesthetically pleasing yet successful football team.
    That was a false hope.
He's a fitness coach, who lucked into management in the first place, had some success, equalled by failure every time, was handed the opportunity of a lifetime here, because let's be honest were any other clubs beating down his door, and he's squandered it, through tactical ineptitude and the inability to adapt to the squad he has, or to build the squad he wants.
