Both of their goals came out of nowhere. It wasn’t sustained pressure of anything. And that first goal was one of those where he could try that again another 50 times and he wouldn’t score.
Giroud had a decent chance before he scored admittedly. But generally, that second half was as dominant as I’ve ever seen England against a top team.
Some people hate stats. But we had 58% possession, double the shots on goal and double the corners.
That wasn’t a usual England performance. Go back over the years against the likes of Brazil, Portugal, Germany (2010) and Italy and we were on the ropes most of the game. Not this time.
Good thing is players like Bellingham, Rice, Saka and Foden will only get better. I think only Henderson and Walker are the two who will be playing their last World Cup. The rest will still be top players in 2026.

I’ve always been critical of England’s ability to beat the best teams.
Once again we have fallen short.
But I genuinely believe this was our best performance against a good team I have seen in my lifetime. England dominated this game but lost on fine margins.
Italy were the better team in the Euro final.
England were the better team here.

Some of our fans on twitter having a go at Warne are absolutely ridiculous.
No team would get relegated from the Championship, come back for pre season with 5 players and get anywhere near to promotion from League One. The fact we're 7th is a miracle in itself.
We don't have a right back, we have 2 wingers (Ones injured) the squad at full strength is unbelievably short. Take 5 regulars out and we're threadbare.
The game management today after going down to 10 men was so poor. But these players make such poor decisions at times, going directly against what they've been told to do.
All Warne can do is work with what we've got, which isn't a lot. Get through this month, get some of the injured players back and get to January.
We need at the very least a right back, a midfield enforcer and a winger. But I think we'll get more than that.
Clowes said himself that there will be a period of consolidation.

The irony that some were saying nine games was not enough to judge Rosenior and yet Warne is getting pelters after two.
It’s conceivable that we would have had a easy six points from six if not for two game changing errors of judgement today, the kind of which coaching, tactics and style of play can’t really influence.
Playing volleyball in our own box and our star striker turning MMA fighter, how can Warne be blamed for that?

I will give Warne time before I call him out as a coach whose teams don't play attractive football. He made the best of what he had at Rotherham so assume he decided that style was his best option for success. No reason why he won't advocate attractive attacking football at Derby with the resources he has. DC has clearly had this on the burners for a while hence the speed it moved from rumour to announcement.
In many ways I like this feeling of clearing the decks, LR was a great guy and actually did well IMHO building this squad and getting us into a decent league position. But this now draws a line fully under the Morris catastrophe and moves us on from the Cocu, Rooney, LR styles.
Looking forward to watching the development.

I find some of the complaints about Warne, and the defences of Rosenior a little conflicting.
On the one hand, the football we play isn’t working because we don’t have good enough players to pass their way through teams at this level.
At the same time, Warne won’t work because we play neat, passing football. It’s one or the other really, we have a good squad so what kind of football are we well suited to?
For what it’s worth, there is a difference between being direct and playing hoofball. Being direct just means getting the ball forward quickly. We have pace out wide, big strikers and midfielders who can pass. Those together add up pretty well for direct football.
It’s a gamble, but I think it’s less of a gamble than keeping LR if we really want promotion this year. A lot of work was done in the summer but that would’ve happened whatever the manager. Would we have ended up with a vastly different squad if Warne joined at the start of the summer? I doubt it. We had a limited pool of players we could go for under our current restrictions, so I don’t think the squad being largely built by a different manager will be a massive issue.
If we do play less attractive football but spend less time trapped in the third tier, then that’s good with me.
Edit: For what it’s worth, I’ve just checked at Rotherham scored 70 goals last season in League 1, averaging 1.5 a game. We are currently scoring 1.0 goals a game. We should technically be more dangerous in the final third, if we’re going on which style yields more goals.

For all the plelters Rowett gets, i still firmly believe a lot of it is because of his snakie exit.
The team did win plenty of games and it was nice to know what a defence that knows what it's doing was like.

I might get some pelters here but personally I think the potential appointment of Paul Warne is possibily the best option available to us at this stage of our " rebirth ".

LR clearly was influential in WR's team, some even suggested he was THE tactician in the set-up. Our away form was woeful last season, and continues to be so. There's absolutely no chance of promotion repeatedly making the same mistakes away from home.

If you've not listened the the BBC podcast Moment Of Truth, where he and Oxford's Karl Robinson were mic'ed up for the second half of last season, I suggest you do. He is a supreme man manager. Direct yes - very!  A complete sweary-Mary, but he can get players to run through brick walls for him. He knows what levers to pull for each of his players. I think we're all agreed we have one of the better squads in our division, but Paul Warne has done much more with lesser players and less than half our budget in this division. I listened to the podcast and did think he would be just the sort of motivator that would be ideal for us at this level. As much as I admire LR's loyalty , if you've ever seen the cameras in the dressing room, he's very vanilla and I'd even suggest uninspiring .

" But he plays hoofball doesn't he, Paul Warne? " I hear some cry. He plays with what he's got and the budget he's got.  I think he'd be licking his lips at the opportunity to work with our squad. One thing I'd be confident of, based on what I've heard of him when he was mic'ed ( is that even a word? ) up is that nothing will be left on the pitch. He demands it from every player.

I'll take that with our squad. If we're not good enough in the final analysis, I'll accept that. But it won't be for the lack of Paul Warne pushing them to their limits and accepting anything less than 100% from every player. Oh, and his track record in this division isn't too shabby, so he's not all talk.

I like everything David Clowes has done so far, measured, not knee-jerk, but I believe he's seen enough to be brave when change is needed.

We will certainly be in for a hell of a ride if we do appoint him.

DC, you've got huge gonads Sir. I applaud you.

I don’t understand the outrage here.
Clowes gave Rosenior an interim position, so he was auditioning for the permanent role, not guaranteed the role. Clowes is well within his rights to go in a different direction, especially when Rosenior hasn’t been overwhelmingly impressive.
This says loud, clear and unequivocally that standards and expectations are high and promotion and bouncing back straight away is the target.
This would line up with the calibre of player we brought to the club and this would also line up with the conversations being had internally.
With that in mind, can Clowes be blamed? We’ve dropped 13 points in nine games. We’ve lost a third of our league games. We have thrown away a win v Plymouth, contrived to lose v Lincoln and Charlton, and not made anything count v Fleetwood and Shrewsbury. We’re seven points from the top two places and five points from 3rd. It doesn’t set the right tone and suggests a rethink is needed.
As such, it’s no surprise Clowes wants someone who knows the league, someone who understands the mechanics of the league and how to win games consistently, and someone who has consistent experience of doing well in this league.
Warne could be a very shrewd appointment in that sense and especially if it’s on a one or two year deal. Three promotions from League 1? It’s difficult to argue with his track record, especially as Rotherham are not necessarily a big fish in this league, just benefactors of yo-yoing between the Championship and League 1.
Of course people will turn their nose up at his perceived style. But here he will have better resources and a better calibre of player than he has ever had at Rotherham. So in theory it could be a good blend, knowing when to play our football and knowing when and being coached how to take a different approach.
We certainly have players that could thrive under a different style. It’s not as if we are the Arsenal of League 1. It’s not a squad of purely technical footballers, is it?
It’s worth a shot. Enjoy the ride.

LR was only interim manager. It’s not like we gave him the job full-time in the summer and are sacking him now.
    This isn’t a sacking.
It’s hiring a full-time manager to replace the interim manager.
I thought LR would get the job permanently. But there are several potential reasons why he hasn’t.
    Warne has promotion pedigree.
And anybody who has seen us this season knows we aren’t exactly a brilliant footballing team. Bird has been poor. Prior to his late goals against Wycombe, Hourihane has been disappointing too.
We haven’t scored a goal away from home.
I don’t think it’s a case of Warneball being random hoofs, but perhaps we are more suited to going direct and having players like McGoldrick, Knight and Sibley picking up second balls in the final third.
Comparisons to Pearson seem strange. We had a far better footballing side back then. I don’t see that with us now.
Honestly, how many chances have we created this season by passing through the opposition via possession and moving them out of position. Barely any.

I don’t like to get carried away, but a good few of our players are clearly a level above League One level.
If we start the season with midfield options of Bird, Knight, Hourihane and Bielik then that’ll be the strongest set in the league and better than a good few Championship sides too.
The wide players could be among the best too. Much may depend on whether we can get a tune from them.
    We have solid centre-backs.
I’d still like us to bolster our attacking options and fullbacks.

I'm going to assume the best and hope to see Clowes complete the takeover today or tomorrow.
If that proves to be correct, it's amazing how uncomplicated it suddenly seems to have become. As soon as someone appears with the will and the finances, the deal breezes through. No bank holiday issues, no complaints in the press about being ignored by Quantuma, nothing held up by anti-money laundering checks etc
It's almost like the others were cheapskates or fantasists.

I'm seeing others say similar; there are really only two reasons CK will not be the next owner of Derby County:
    1. He actually turns out to be a money launderer and they seize his funds.
    2. Someone out-bids him and pays more for the club/debts/bills/etc.
    That's it.
Side note (that will likely get me slagged a wee bit here):
Q have been just fine as admins, and the fees they will be paid will be inline with other administrations/etc. They have not hampered anyone from making acceptable bids, they have not deliberately slowed the process from being complete. The only 'favorites' they have picked is the ONLY person to present a viable offer and signed the paperwork.

Again: if ANYONE else wants to table a bid that matches or is better than CK's I will be delighted!

Other than a lack of communication this week can someone explain what CK has actually done wrong for so many to turn against him as owner now?
If, like Nixon and now both Sky & the Mirror are reporting, that he has sent the money but it is being held up by AML checks, what more could/can he actually do? It sounds like he tried alternate ways to send the money around the 31st deadline which werent successful so he went back to the original way of sending it last Mon 6th.
Even if he did come out & say something, would the now sceptics have believed it anyway?
Seems to me like other parties are trying to dirty the waters with CK bid and it is working. Ashley is nowhere near being the saviour if like Q statement says his bid was too low to satisfy the EFL. If someone matches or betters CK bid then lets crack on, but so far its been all talk no action from these other interested parties. They all know what the cost is, it cant be any lower, so if you're serious, put up or shut up.

The 'work' they've done is to keep the club running on a day to day basis despite the business being left in such a state that.. well a state that it needed administrators called in!
Don't underestimate that job in itself. There's a reason Administrators fees are as high as they are, and there's a reason Administrators don't tend to be at the top of everyone's Christmas Card lists. It's not a job you do to make friends.
If another interested party comes forward now they benefit from the 'work' that's been done. They know the amount of money they need, there's an agreed (provisional) structure for how and when that money will go to creditors, there's an EFL approved business plan that can be used as a template, any new candidate knows what the budgets are going to look like, what's acceptable to the EFL.
With a bit of tweaking everything is already in place for someone to stump up the money CK was supposed to pay and the club is theirs.

Up until recently there's been no veritable evidence that CK had no chance of getting the deal over the line. He's surrounded by entirely reputable people who have backed him up every step of the way.
Proof of funds is proof of funds. I doubt the checks made on this by the admins are any different to the checks any other admin would make.
It's simply a fact that he has or had the money somewhere. That it appears to have gone missing now is a separate matter and I'd agree with people saying that there should have been some sort of 'test run' perfomed much earlier to prove that the money would arrive. It still remains though that there was no legal, no formal reason for anyone involved in the process to think he couldn't pay up - cynicism from supporters doesn't cut it, feelings don't come into it - there needs to be firm evidence presented as a reason not to proceed.
The crux of the second half if your post is "if you believe MA's representatives".
That'll be a firm no. There's no point discussing MA further at this point except to say if you believe the PR that's coming from the biggest game player of the lot, we'll that's your prerogative.
If the administrators are in it purely to line their pockets and drag everything out intentionally, why did they even bother go to the EFL with a bidder and the cross claim cram down thing to get a PB in place for January?
I suppose you could accuse them if doing that for show, to make it look like they wanted this all over months ago... but then you're not just calling them incompetent you're literally accusing them of illegal activity.
If that's the case it will all come out in the wash, but they've been convicted already by Derby fans.
If their fees are 'crazy' surely someone can prove that they aren't simply in line with what anyone anyone else would charge for the job? Mike Ashley refusing to pay someone their due doesn't make it any less due.
None of this is to say they haven't made some big mistakes, but some of the stuff that comes out of people's mouths about the administrators while they simultaneously wax verbal about other parties (with their own agenda) and swallow every PR fluff piece designed to make them look like some sort of victim in all of this is... I don't even have the words tbh.
