Just seen the highlights from yesterday.

Still coming to terms with how a professional footballer can miss an open goal from 4 yards out with no pressure on them, glad it didn't matter in the end.

Nevermind about new strikers, chances like that are gifts we can't afford to be turning down.

Nice to see as well that it's not just our defenders whom play suicide passes.

    Onwards to Tuesday.

First time it’s ever happened then?

He can't touch the ball if defenders are sailing it over his head!

This! The result papered over a few cracks performance wise however none of us will care about performances if we go on a 20 game unbeaten run.

I would say that we need to be trying to play through the middle with our talented midfielders. Draw the opposition narrow and then pow - ball pinged out to the wings for wingbacks to get on to.

  3. A 3-0 win away can never be a bad thing and buys anyone precious time for a manager (not before sacking but time to get the performances right).

There was a lot that wasn’t good in the first half that a brilliant bit of work from Bird and Hourihane ensured is in the back of our minds rather than the forefront.

But as is always true. Football is a results business. We had a great time during that 06/07 season despite some turgid ‘stinking the place out’ football at times.

I thinks Clowes is trying to demonstrate that Derby have learnt from their financial mistakes and are a well run prudent club.
would you rather have that than no club. The club will be here long after we have all gone, we need to make sure it’s in a fit state . Support Warne and the lads COYRs

Nothing I’ve said is a dig at Clowes. Just to make clear.

He sets the budget he doesn’t decide how to use the budget.

When the club you support has nearly ceased to exist then that outcome would be utterly depressing.

Signing League 1 players isn't anywhere near that level.

But I respect that different people have different levels of tolerance or stress or trigger points.

It’s a hyperbolic statement for sure but that doesn’t change the point that if, and it’s a big if (but I’ve no reason to doubt big trav), our budget has been used up with what has already come in then it leaves us really short.

I won’t refer to anyone who isn’t concerned as a happy clapper but at the same time it’s fine to be worried about the direction of the playing squad despite the fact that we nearly went out of existence because we cannot remain in league 1 for too much longer.

The one big positive for Clowes when running the club has been the volume of fans through the door. I’ll be there in future seasons regardless of what division we’re in but plenty won’t stop around for midtable scraps in league 1.

My hope is that there’s a lot going on behind closed doors for recruitment into the older ages of the academy meaning that as these players start to be integrated into the team they’ll supplement these older free transfers in the next 18-24 months.

  6. Just looking at earlier rumours/deals. If money is as tight as now appearing and If we needed a 10 why not go for Rodrigues? He’ll do well for Oxford this year - had a great second half in their first league game despite the result apparently but even if it didn’t work out you wouldn’t be struggling to find another team to take a risk on him midway through his contract.

  7. I think people were just starting to get their heads around what happened against Wigan when we were hit with one of the worst performances of the 21st century against Blackpool. Being ole’d at home against them as our players couldn’t get close enough to touch them. That was embarrassing. That’s not entitlement that’s an expectation that we’ll compete in every match at this level which we didn’t there.

  8. Play to the strengths of the players.

Can we afford 3 centre backs with not much pace in the team? Either put Rooney in or drop one of them and go 4 at the back.

Defenders still don’t have pace? Don’t ask them to play on the half way line with nobody screening them.

Midfielders are all tidy ball players? Utilise this? Don’t expect them to change into dynamic box to box midfielders.

Collins scores if he’s within the width of the box? Stop him from going any wider by playing wider forwards with him?

Obviously I’m no manager and I might be talking rubbish but football isn’t a complicated game and I can’t see anything controversial with what I’ve said. Identify the strengths of your players, use a system that focuses on the strengths. Identify the weaknesses, use a system that helps support in these areas.

Been thinking that Cash has not seemed to be at his best playing LCB in a 3, this set me thinking about what might be his best position.

His best games by far have been as one of two CB’s in a back 4 but for me he he lacks the height to make a top class CB and tends to struggle against the taller strikers.

He doesn’t have the pace to be a full back or wing back but has good passing ability, a great attitude and determination in abundance.

Many will disagree but I can see him playing as a CDM in front of a back four, possibly in a 4-1-4-1 (or 4-3-3) formation. He seems to read the game very well and is able to pass short or long. Could be what is needed to protect an uncertain looking defence.

3rd highest rated player in League 1 last season and comfortably highest rated centre back. Hasn’t got the passing range to be a midfielder but he is a really superb centre back and managed those performance with Forsyth playing RCB and Sibley playing LB which was as make shift as it gets…

Your right but we could definitely get a lot more this year than the compensation next.

Reckon if he goes to a British club we get £2m in comp considering his appearances, he’s been captain and he’s been here for absolutely years. the way Hull are bidding for him I reckon we’d get more waiting 😂

It was obvious from the matchday thread last night that there were posters on here whom would take great delight for us as a club to lose the next x amount of games to:-

    (a) justify their own personal predujices against Warne and

    (b) make him more likely to be removed from his job, see previous point above.

Could never get my head around why a so called supporter would want their team to lose a game. Weird.

Nobody wants us to lose. Nobody goes into a match even under Jewell/Brown/any proper awful manager we’ve had.

Some might take comfort after being disappointed that it might spell the end for a manager they don’t believe is right but you don’t go into any game as a fan wanting us to lose. The nature of being a football fan doesn’t allow it.

This isn’t the same as your accusation.

Those in free fall after ONE league game (not counting last night, friendlies under another title….. until you make good progress, then there’s a little excitement) aside, I suggest they glance towards the North East, Sunderland suffered many times during their tenure in the third tier. Stability please.

They kept changing manager until they landed on Neil though so maybe not the advert for stability you think?

  13. If he gets the players in to make it work then stick to 352 but if he cannot recruit the required types of players then we need to revert back to 4.

Build the team/squad around these players: Wildsmith, Wilson, Ward, Rooney, Cash, Thompson, Bird, Robinson, Sibley + (Bardell, Brown, Radcliffe) and at least the team should improve year on year/we’ll develop saleable assets.

                 Wildsmith

    Wilson Bradley Cash Elder

           Thompson Bird

                    Sibley

          Ward Collins NML

    Mixed with:

                    Vickers

    Bardell Rooney Nelson Forsyth

              Smith Robinson

                   Hourihane

      Waghorn Washington Barkhuizen

Obviously the top side with Rooney eventually Replacing Bradley would be the dream - full of young academy players, young players who’s value is going to rise but I’d imagine it’d be a mixture of the two elevens because Warne would want more experience.

Take one look at Wigans team against us with 6* academy products in it if you’re worried about experience.

    * mcmanaman is included as academy product despite clearly being at the end of his career.

Isn’t it dependent on whether they get another job?

It’s a case of managers receive a settlement which gives them the ability to be hired elsewhere, or they don’t and they have to wait out the period until getting another managerial job.

Ish. You might say I’ll give you 10 months pay to terminate it now and you can go and work a job as soon as a suitable opportunity arises or you can say right I’ll pay you your full contract but you won’t work again for 3 years…

I think ,unfortunately there have been people who did not want him from day 1-no real idea why but after any downturn in form/performance and bad results they will immediately hit the keyboard and generate /stir up anti Warne comment.A few are saying the jobs too big for him -why he has proved on three occasions he has the credentials -the thing different here is the expectations and lack of patience by some of the supporters who believe we are a bigger club than we probably are. Shouldn't a big club get more than 7000 for a competitive game.?

We do need more players and im sure they are working behind the scenes to attract them but in the situation we are we may have to accept that the quality of player we would like doesn't want to drop down to League 1 or agree to our cash offers.

What dissapointed me last night was the lack of energy and chasing down which has been a positive since his appointment I hope nothing has gone on within the dressing room as i do think once the players are in the roles and playing the way he wants we will be ok.

Still 135 points to play for-probably 90 should see you go up this year so a long way to go-there will almost certainly be a meltdown in some quarters for each of the 45 points dropped.

I was quite excited about the initial noises when he joined but watched him manage us to not even getting a shot on target in some matches which (obviously you expect to lose matches) simply isn’t acceptable at this level with this club. 0 shots on target.
I also panicked when I saw what his version of pressing meant as it wasn’t organised at all. I was aghast when we went through relegation form to drop out of the playoffs.

I was however prepared to wipe the slate clean with him working on getting his own players in. It’s not yet going to plan. Far from it. Last night was unacceptable.

I'd play this team against Burton

                              Wildsmith

    Wilson        Bradley      Cashin       Forsyth

                                 Bird

                 Hourihane         Sibley

      NML                  Waghorn            Brown

You’d drop Ward in place of brown???

Ward can play attacking wide right, NML can play on the left.

Dajuane is 17 he doesn’t need to be coming into this shhht storm right now. He needs protecting and using when the time is right.

And when he came back we were still in decline. And he's been in the team these first two games too.

He came back from injury into a team in free fall and struggled to find his previous form? Some mystery that…

  18. 20 minutes ago, MACKWORTHRAM said:

So there's two examples and one of them was in pre season.

He doesn't do that anywhere near enough.

I gave you the most recent examples - I was hardly Gonna pinpoint specifics from last season was I? and my original post you replied to acknowledged last season was far from ideal for him but it was his injury that timed with our decline…

Please tell me what Max Bird has done to be labelled a "class player"?

He’s literally the only midfielder capable of driving forwards with the ball (highlights from last night show that despite a disappointing performance he was able to shimmy his way through 3 Blackpool players before laying it into the forward as just 1 example).
He has got a killer pass on him (Stoke pre season for just 1 example).
He is technically gifted and completely 2 footed.

Obviously I’m talking about him in the context we find ourselves but he’s impressed Cocu, Lampard, Rooney, Rosenior and Warne. Regardless of thoughts on individual managers that is 5 managers in a row who have rated him.

I’ll ignore any lazy tropes about ‘always goes sideways’ too.

  20. I’ll be boarding the Warne out wagon if it turns out his comments last night are the difference between Bird staying and leaving.

Class player. Didn’t do enough last season but isn’t his fault rosenior bought in 2 very similar CMs to play with him. No coincidence our form fell off a cliff without him in the side though.

A shame he’s perennially underrated by our fans.

He may well have been on his way without those comments but he’s one we should h e been aiming to build a team around moving forwards.
