We've had the same problem for years, player recruitment and club mentality. We've tried signings players off the back of incredible seasons, players out of form/not getting much game time who should have a point to prove, experienced players who've been there and done that, younger players who should improve and we've also managed to get some of the countries top young players here on loan. We've even tried doing the same thing with managers, experienced, rookies, managers on the up in their career and managers out of work with a point to prove. Still, every single time we've crumbled once we start getting to the latter part of the season when the games are more important. We're destined to remain in the Championship forever

Derby sit 7th and head into a game against rock bottom Ipswich who have avoided defeat just once in their past 7 games (1-0 win vs Rotherham) - Derby draw 1-1 with them
Derby sit 7th and head into a home game against Millwall who haven't won in 5 - Millwall win 1-0 at Pride Park
Derby sit 7th and head into a game against Villa who haven't won in 5 and have just 1 in in 10 (which was Ipswich at home) - Villa smash Derby 4-0
Derby sit 7th, 3 points outside the play offs with a game in hand on most of the teams around them, heading into a game against Blackburn who have picked up 4 points from a possible 33 recently - Blackburn dominate and beat Derby easily

We really do struggle to beat teams who are in awful form. Anyway, Bolton next ..... anyone know how they've been getting on lately?

@stonersI'm a little bit upset that you didn't get MON last season. Just imagine it, Gary Rowett's Derby going up against MON's Forest .... it would be glorious. We'd be heading into the game leaving our best player, Vydra, on the bench in favour of Jerome and you'd be doing the same for whoever your best attacking player was last season with Murphy preferred to him. The average age of players in the game between us would be 32+ and we'd both somehow end up with 40% possession

I can't speak for others, but I have a negative reaction to it because we're in a position where this had to be done. It seems to me it's almost like a get out of jail free card and it's so frustrating that it's had to come to this. Transferring staff costs from Derby to his other company and buying the stadium from the club, whilst not against the rules (as far as we know), is a little bit deceptive. And yet again the club haven't actually released the financial accounts for those smarter chaps on here to analyse, but instead have released a press statement making out everything is rosy.

To me it is. A club is struggling to stay within FFP guidelines, so the owner of that club purchases the stadium via one of his other businesses, with the likely intention to sell it back down the line. I'm sure we can all agree if roles were reversed and we were reading about Villa doing this we'd all be questioning how it can be allowed. I'm grateful that it's helped us to avoid any punishment (if EFL don't find issue with it), but I'm just concerned it's got to a stage that this needed to be done. We've sold top players over recent years, there were reports on here a while back of Derby County laying off a lot of staff and now the stadium has been sold. All of this to avoid FFP punishment .... what next if we find ourselves still in the Championship years down the line and are close to breaching FFP again? Is the training ground sold next?

If true, a £25 million loss without the stadium sale during a season that we sold our 2 best players in Ince and Hughes is very worrying.

To me though, the way this has happened and the context of who's bought what in which way, suggests that this is really just to give us some breathing room to get our house in order. At which point we'll buy it back. Hopefully via promotion.
The long term lease could well be just Mel protecting himself against something catastrophic happening and DCFC not being in a position to buy it back.

Which is absolutely bonkers. Ignoring when and over how long the payments are made, we signed the likes of Lawrence, Huddlestone, Wisdom, Jerome and Davies for roughly £11 million. We then sold Ince, Hughes, Christie and Russell for a good £18/19 million and still would be at a £25 million loss for just the year without the stadium sale. What on earth is going on for it to be that bad? I believe the season before (16/17) we posted losses of £7 million and the season before that (15/16) £14.7 million. How can the 17/18 season in which we made profit in terms of player sales, be substantially worse than the 2 seasons prior combined which included Pearson's, McClaren's and Clement's sackings, signings like Vydra and Anya, plus Clement's £30 million spending spree? It's surely not all down to just wages? Because the wage bill was huge in those other seasons too.

I'm no Financial wizard  but are we not getting carried away with the £65 million thing?
The ground was on Derbys books as a £41 million asset. £80 mill sale = £39 million profit as the club no longer have the £41 million asset on the books

Ah, that's a good point. I'm a bit in the dark with how FFP factors in assets but that could well be the case.
Makes the loss that year 25m and you can see where all the money is.

    Excellent work Charlie. Case closed.
