This. In the unlikely event we do make the playoffs, we'll definitely be battle ready and the most in-form team all others will fear. It's great to be at this point where we still have a chance. Lose tonight and it's all but gone. I wouldn't take a draw if it were offered now as we really need wins, even when away to contenders for the automatic places.
I love Louie Sibley but I might rest him today, starting Shinnie and playing Rooney further forward. And then bringing Sibbo on to cause mayhem in the last half hour, bagging us a goal with a point to prove.

I'm strangely calm for such an important game.

For me, I felt like playoffs were gone a long time ago, I was just looking for something to get excited about for next year. That has definitely been achieved - the surge in form coupled with the introduction of so many academy players puts us in a strong position for next year.

Anything we achieve from here is a bonus. If we lose, so be it. I'm pleased with the direction of travel.

If someone said earlier in the year that we'd have to beat West Brom away from home to have a chance of finishing in the playoffs...and we'd have to do it without Keogh, Wisdom, Bielik, Lawrence, Waghorn and Marriott...I wouldn't be expecting much and I'm just thrilled that we're still in with a shout.

I started work at Headington Hill Hall (for Pergamon) in 89. We even played in old Oxford United shirts for the company footy team! In my day it was Joey Beauchamp terrorising full backs. Amazing, unfulfilled talent.

I lived next door to Robert Maxwell for a year just off Headington hill. I went to most Oxford home games that 84-85 season. They were brilliant with John Aldridge Billy Hamilton and later Ray Hughton. Loved Jim Smith then.

I moved to Oxford at a time when Robert Maxwell was Chairman of my company as well as my football team! And also of Oxford United! Their players were always hanging round the office and we had free tickets most weeks, so I developed a soft spot for them. Very pleased they made it through to Web-ber-ley. Hope we join them!

I have just watched an old hagiographic BBC documentary about Wayne Rooney, presented by Gary Lineker, on Netflix. It was a very piss-poor film, but it made me really appreciate Wayne Rooney and how fortunate we are to have him as the captain of our football club.  What a splendid chapter in the history of Derby County this will turn out to be.

Ratings part 2 😉 (post alcohol blur)
Sibley 6.5 - yeah agree. He found it very difficult to establish space early on. Was ultimate test of technique receiving the ball with that midfield snapping around him. Second half he was better with the ball & looked more of a threat.

You saying Sibbo was totally invisible then? 😁
I actually thought he had a slow start but grew into the game well. But we need him to find where he put his scoring boots.

I feel the time may just be right to unleash Morgan Whittaker on the Championship.  24 goals and 16 assists for the u18 & u23s last season.  I know some are going to say he's not ready but there were lots of us thinking the same about Bird in the autumn.
The transition into the team will be easier for him with Bird, Sibley and Knight already in the team to support him and I have to say I think he's a player.

Ha that's probably not far off the truth - sibbo played in that eh? Hopefully a reverse scoreline will show just how far these players have come.

He could have put out a full strength side and still lost. We were hardly flying at the time. At least you will be able to tell your grandkids that you saw Sibley's full debut.

I still maintain his Forest cup selection was brilliant. Not so much for many fans, but for the players. Give the youngsters a taste of first team football, see what they can do but also make it clear if they are good enough and ready they will be picked. Must have been a huge boost for a lot of those players, the players who are our future.
For someone like Sibley it sure didn't do any harm.
I understand why that selection annoyed so many, but we are clearly seeing the rewards of a manager who thinks long term.

Carl Sagan reacted to Rampage in Philip Cocu
Cocu has got a bit of the Arsene Wenger thing about him. Highly intelligent and focussed. He looks primarily for the ability to learn in.players. some of our apparently average for Championship league look like they could play in the Premier League in a very well organised team. Sheffield United have done similar. All their players know what to do and what not to do. We are steadily ironing out stupid errors that have cost us points in the past. Each week it looks less likely that we need more players because of the developments that they have made. We are the in firm team in this league, why worry about the teams that we will face. Cocu said that we need to confirm that our game is good enough against these higher placed teams. We are playing as well as them, they just had a better first half of season than us. Brentford are highly rated but they win three games against three that we lost when Cocu was sorting us out. We are not underdogs we are competing on level and better form with them slthough too late for autos for us. COYR. These competitors will find that they are not up against the first half season Rams. George Evans played last evening like he is a regular but had not started since December sums it up for me. COYR

Cocu came up to me and shook my hand (Pre-Covid) at the Model Village in Bourton on the Water Back in early March.
Not once did Frank attempt to shake my hand.  In fact, he barely even noticed me!  In fact(2), he's probably never even been to the Model Village in Bourton on the Water!

I know who gets my vote!

Lampard arguably had one of the best Derby squads of recent times to use, Cocu has had to patch us together with virtually no time and very little money (and no Chelsea to help him too).
To be able to even compare the two with results shows how brilliant a manager Cocu is.

I thought Frank was great for us and did give some younger players a chance with signings from a lower division.  He was also very reliant on the 3 loan players who were class.  Cocu’s done this without them and brought a lot of the academy through.  Rooney’s helped of course but for his first season in English football and all the off-field issues it’s a superb achievement.
I also think he really does have the long term interests of the club at heart and a plan to deliver.
