There absolutely is and with Nelson and Cashin we have an opportunity to keep it nil in any game, at this level, but without NML we lose a lot going forward. CBT has an opportunity. I just hated what I saw from Derby yesterday, as I said in the matchday chat, the first 30mins was like a bad Sunday league game. Mansfield and Colchester were on Sky before our game started and it was night and day between what both Northampton and Derby produced.
My problem under Warne is that there has never been any control to what we’re doing. It’s all forced, erratic football. He made the point that the championship is easier to manage in because it’s all coached, League One throws up different challenges. My opinion would be to at least try and offer some controlled possession to our play and not always play the percentages.

Yep. If we consistently don't play as we want, and haven't really played well all season, as Warne is reported to have said, and we can't pass the ball through midfield consistently, it's down to the coaching

Had time to calm down a bit now after yesterday to give my honest opinion.
First 20 minutes of the first half, I thought we looked good. It was all us, but we didn't create any chances at all. Scored from a corner.
We go in at half time and you just think come out and get the second goal. But we started so poorly. Despite us being poor, we were still ok and Charlton did not look dangerous at all.
Then Wildsmith decides to give the most ludicrous penalty away you will see (exactly the same as Oxford away) unforgiveable. Clearly not learnt his lesson. You cannot legislate for that at all. As soon as Vickers is fit, he would be going back in. Then i'd be looking for a new number 1 in the summer.
Then it just gave them hope, when they had none. Another mistake and another goal.
I was ok after the Barnsley game, thought it was tight, neither team created a lot. Both scored a set piece. The difference was they scored a really great finish, Neither keeper had anything to do. Draw would have been fair.
But last night, we are playing against a team that has not won for 18 games. Regardless of the fact that they have good players and are underperforming. I cannot remember their keeper making a save or us testing him at all. At no point did I think we would score in open play, we could still be out there now and not scored. Which against a team 20th in the league is unacceptable.
Warne comes out after every game saying we moved the ball to slow, we weren't brave enough on the ball. Yet every game we do it again.
I am not a fan of Warne or the football. You can forgive the football if we win games. But last night was hideous and inexcusable.
I saw people moaning he took Smith off. But Smith was blowing out his arse and was done after 50 odd minutes. Not sure why Thompson didn't get on to replace the energy vacated by Smith. Really not sure why Cashin was left back either.
We simply have to win the next 3 games. All winnable. But my biggest concern is that we just are not creating any chances at all. 2 games in a row now I can't remember the opposition keeper having to make a save. Even last night if their keeper had made save after save and we were creating chances. You would have come out thinking, its one of them days, Gave 2 poor goals away but we are creating chances so carry on like that and we will be fine.
The best I have seen us play this season was the second half at Oxford. We were on the front foot, brilliant. That's what we need.
We have nothing to lose now, I want to see us come out, create chances and put teams to bed.
Sitting on a 1-0 lead at home is criminal and has cost us so many points this season. 3 last night, 2 against Wycombe, 2 against Shrewsbury.
We aren't sacking Warne now. So we have just got to get behind them and hope we can do enough to get up.

I'm somewhere in between, and I find that reading the views of people from both ends of the Warne spectrum help me to understand my own complicated and mutable feelings about him.
Possibly that counts as an appalling breach of the rules of engagement.

I think the change he wanted was to play football that better suited his skills. It could have been Bristol, Blackpool, Birmingham or Brentford.  One way or another he almost certainly wanted to kick on personally, and sorry everyone but Warne was not making him a better player, in fact he was making him look very average. We have lost our best player in my opinion.

AutoWindscreens reacted to Ghost of Clough in Has DC lost faith in the recruitment process?
The process used for this season will need to be overhaulled. 12 summer signings and a further 2 in January, of which only 3 are likely to be regular starters is absolutely shocking (Nelson, Nyambe, Blackett-Taylor). This is also after the squad failed to place top last season, losing 3 of our first 11 (Roberts, Knight and McGoldrick) and not even having a right back in the entire squad.
It's summarised by having no long term vision. That's in terms of: a) bringing in younger players who will either maintain their current standards for longer, or have room for improvement; or b) planning how the players will fit into the team.
Warne put a clear focus on older and more experience players, based on the rationale of higher wages equates to better players. If more budget is put towards the wages, we'll end up with a stronger squad of players.
Warne also had no plan on how to fit the players into the team. This is demonstrated by early summer recruitment being with 3421 in mind, which quickly changed to 352, and then alternating between 442 and 4231 during the season so far. We signed a LB (Elder) to play as a wing back, but also signed Nyambe (RB) after already signing 2 wing backs. He also signed a slow CB who cannot play in a high line and is uncomfortable on the ball under pressure. We've basically got through from October with only 1 fully fit forward whowas 2nd choice last season and failed to improve on in the summer AND January.
The style of play our CF targets prefer also varied. Summer targets like Harris, Rhodes and Sharp all have different strengths and weaknesses. Similar with January targets such as Smith, Gregory, Mubama, Ennis. It's just a scattergun approach all round. Most of these targets compromise on the high intensity press Warne wants to implement too.

I glanced through some of the last 30 pages and it looked like this:

Maybe one could see the bigger picture as well. Or is it too early to use cognitive skills and take a bit of perspective?

Yes, we are 2-3 weeks without a back-up striker, and it's hardly optimal. But our midfield is stronger than in December and we managed to sign one of the most effective winger/forwards in the league so wingers improved massively. It's risky but hardly a worth meltdown as you lot seem to think.

Quality, not quantity is often phrased here, but now that opinion seems to be forgotten. This squad has been capable of having a great winning streak and with the help of CBT, it is possible to repeat.
Obviously, you can stay butthurt whole weekend if that suits your plans. Perspective is another option if you want to.

So he's not even waiting to see if we get promoted; he'd rather play for Bristol even if we're in the same division.
I wonder if that's because it's not fun as a midfielder with our tactics?

    I’m sad about this one.

One of our young lads moving on.

I think we are really not using him properly.

Also, if he’s been told to get it and pass it out wide after one touch so not using any of his real abilities.
Also play and run around next to Hourihane getting overran every game.
Just think he’s undervalued and under appreciated by the manager who wants to play a different way. And many fans who only see goal or assist stats.

Yes we offered him a new contract, but have shown him he won’t be playing the way he wants to play for at least the next 2 years so I’m not surprised he wants to go elsewhere.

    A sad day.
