Having seen this club very close to extinction on several occasions, I find it quite incredible that certain individuals are advocating spending large amounts on transfer fees, wages etc just because sanctions may or may not have been relaxed a little, or that we might have a little spare cash.

I'm prepared to spend £13.40 a game to watch a strong, competitive team that contains a mix of talented young players who have come through our academy and good pros who have been brought in for their ability to get us out of this division and at least give them a chance to do so  before I throw my toys out of the pram.
I saw no chunk of the fanbase missing last season and the attendances at this season's friendlies and early demand for tickets suggests there won't be much change this season.
If some of the occasional big game only fans stay away because we haven'tgot a star striker in yet, then I think we'll barely notice  tbh.
If and when Clowes and Warne's approach doesn't work, I will say so, but can we give the season a chance first?

Martin definitely, regardless of any fanboyism or hate now, was not exceptional when we signed him. He was rubbish on loan and most wondered what on earth we kept him for.

    Agreed
And totally illogical for someone who claims to be some sort of scientist
Pressure the UK government to get our own house in order, and then our government  can quite rightly pressure fellow governments to follow suit. That's the only logical path
Every other path leads to absolutely nothing meaningful happening to halt man-made climate change
Unless we're literally just resigned to it being an unsolveable problem and therefore we should just enjoy the warm weather while we can and welcome the extinction of the human race as a blessed relief?

That's a particularly jaundiced and unhelpful take if you ask me. Ironically the actual Carl Sagan was on of the original climate change campaigners.
Every country needs to concentrate on itself first when tackling climate change, so it's perfectly reasonable for citizens of the UK to protest in their country or target their own elected representatives.  We can also make it clear that we expect the politicians, of our respective countries, to put pressure on other countries to meet climate change standards at the relevant international gatherings such as COP.
The UK's carbon footprint is not as low as some people might believe.  Yes, the GHG emissions from the UK's territory have dropped steadily over the years as coal was replaced by gas, manufacturing largely moved abroad and some renewables came online.  That's all true, but if you look at the carbon footprint of the products that are consumed in the UK, rather than the emissions actually produced on the landmass itself, then the picture is a far less rosy one.  Also the UK classifies much of it's imported biomass as carbon neutral.  In reality it's anything but, however the trick helps make the UK's carbon footprint look lower than it is in reality.  Although, I guess, other countries may be using similar dodgy accounting practices to massage their own CO2 figures.
I think many climate protests can actually be counter productive and I agree with some of the criticism levelled at them, but I don't believe that climate protests are in principle a mistake, they just need to be properly targeted.  And I wouldn't presume to know the intentions of all those protesters concerned. Perhaps some of them are professional protesters, but it's seems highly likely that a great many of them are motivated principally by the obvious climate crisis that is unfolding all around us.
As for other countries, let them worry about themselves internally, and our governments can put pressure on them (or incentivise them) internationally. Now that China has recorded at temperature of 52.2 C, I think that might encourage it to redouble it's efforts to hasten it's conversion to renewables. This recurring and recalcitrant notion that we shouldn't bother doing anything because bigger countries aren't doing enough, is a hopeless cop out in my opinion and a complete abdication of our own responsibilities.

I always understood the reason why interest rates are increased, was to stop unneeded spending and encourage people to save their spare cash.
The problem with this is, while the rise may stop people using credit cards and spending their money frivolously. Unfortunately people are now using all their money and in many cases money they haven't got,  just to keep a roof over their head and feed their family. Meaning they have no spare cash to save. If people do have some spare cash what incentive have they got to save? While the banks are quick to pass on the interest rate rises to mortgage borrowers, they seem to be slower in increasing the rates being paid to people with savings accounts.
I'm definitely no economics expert, hell I struggle to work out the differences between the various types of interest rates. But I think just raising interest rates isn't going to work on bringing down inflation like it as done previously. There probably needs to be an entire new way for how our economy is run and regulated. What that would look like, I have not idea, I'll leave that to the appropriate experts.
It may require some radical economic agreements with numerous countries,  hopefully starting with the control and taxation of the multinational companies that seem to ride roughshod over individual country's tax laws.

Very cheap price in my opinion for a young highly versatile experienced international, we will never be able to sign one like him for a long time I suspect - hopefully we can get promotion this coming season - the administration has cost us so many players
I really think he could be doing a lot better than Bristol city and that’s not trying to be disrespectful to them and I fully expect him sold within two years for £10 million plus.

It was interesting at a family birthday last weekend, and this topic came up. Everyone of my generation (ie 40 and over) was of much the same opinion as a lot of people here - that these protests were counter-productive and annoying.
However, all the youngsters (ie the 25 and unders) were the total opposite. They all thought it was brilliant that people were making a stand, and brilliant that the older generations were so annoyed by it. I sat and listened to them and there was an overwhelming sense of helplessness. All they see is corrupt governments that aren't fit for purpose - not giving a damn about saving the planet, unless it's a net zero thing which can make them and their mates super rich regardless of what good it does to the climate change issue
They see the older generations as apathetic because we'll all be dead before it matters anyway, but for them and their kids it's a very real issue and they don't see ANYONE doing anything meaningful about it. What else can they do but encourage public protest? Write a letter? hahahahahaha

I was working with someone from France the other day and ended up explaining to them what the word 'nesh' means (double strange this one, as I never heard it when I lived in Derby but it came into use after I left). I know we have 'mi duc' and the like but wondered what other words we have in Derby that are specific to at least the East Midlands.
    Some that come to mind:
Mardy Bolched (getting your hair cut really short and being told 'blimey, you've been bolched') Nongy (only the Welsh, who call it a dunkie, have a better name for it) Boca (probably generational but anyone who looked a tramp, in honour of Mr Wright) Ote and note Jitty Tea (the evening meal)

It's terrible for all concerned but when people are spending £250k to go look (possibly, its not guaranteed) at a ship wreck on the ocean floor while nurses are using food banks it tells us just how crazy the world has become.

sheeponacid reacted to Loughborough Ram in Paul Warne Pre-Season Interview
It must be so hard to give any kind of interview these days with the over analysis of every word, its ridiculous.
For me the interview was interesting but not particularly enlightening, as most sensible people already understand the way these things work. But I think that the determination to be upset is so overwhelming for some people that they can't help themselves when it comes to ripping these things apart.
If I was Paul Warne I'd wonder whether it was worth offering such candour preferring to just offer one word answers. I also wonder how some of these people would cope if Arthur Cox was in charge these days, getting any information out of him was like pulling teeth.

As a few of you know, I had been working at The Waterfall for quite a while, however, I have decided to open up a pub of my own.
We've spent the past 10 weeks or so cleaning, redecorating, cleaning again, getting the place ready, to say it has been stressful is a complete understatement, and I'm sure my wife and business partners have been ready for killing me 😂
Anyway I imagine that a few will know the venue, it is Maypole Inn on Brook Street in the West End.
We have opened up this week, and it would be good to see any of you that fancy a drink, have a chat and it would be nice to put some more faces to user names.

Any party that supports privatisation of public services, curbs trade union rights, weakens human rights, makes it more difficult for poor people to vote, is in favour of pumping s*** into rivers and believes austerity is a sensible policy is far right to me.
As you can imagine, I've not got many parties to vote for anymore.
