Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster got a reaction from Colm in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
We all knew we had a fabulous squad for this division. If I'd spent 53 million on our club and we were on the edge of the playoffs early doors with a rookie manager, still not having sorted out our away form, I'd be thinking " for an extra 750K in compensation I could get better ", I'd be twisting, not sticking.
Don't forget he was a very reluctant fan-buyer. He doesn't have billions. 53 mill is still a massive risk. The only way I would have stuck with Liam at this point is if he was six points clear at the top of the division. Even then I'd be fretting...

Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster reacted to RAM1966 in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
From Mr Giddypant RUFC Forum
I was going to post this on the Derby forum, but couldn't be arsed.
I have been supporting Rotherham since 1958. I'm devastated if this is fact, and increasingly it's looking likely. Few of you have done your homework. You share the (previously correct) impression that we are a long-ball team with limited ability to play 'proper' football.
Many of you have voiced doubts that Warney could make best use of your 'talented' team. Fear not. Warney has proved himself adept at utilising the talents of his players. His ambitions have been limited by the resources available to him, not by an ideological devotion to a 'hit and hope' philosophy.
This year we have recruited players who add to the pool of talent we had last year. Except for Warney's first year in the job we have seen a progressive development in terms of player recruitment and positive achievements on, and off, the field.
As a man manager I doubt there are few better at this level. He has personalty and wit. I love the man and what he has done for my club.
Think yourselves lucky.
Feel free to copy and paste.
PS, with any luck he'll be sacked within the year and come back 'home'.
Thats sounds to me the sort of thing I'd love to hear from the Rotherham fans....

All the complaints saying DC is another mad Mel is ridiculous.
He made LR interim manager as he was clearly not sure if he was the right man, much better decision than the 3-5 year contracts MM was handing out to sack a manager a short time into contracts. It was a astute business decision if you ask me, Warne appears to know his way out of this Division so a 1 or 2 Year contract could be a wise move if its him to be appointed.
I'd suggest we should all calm the fook down and see who is appointed and how they perform, if this goes belly up DC has invested £53M, therefore he's the one with the most to lose.
Regarding the Ashley rumours, I've heard he is only interested in buying us once we are back in the Championship.
In DC I trust, our away form simply was not good enough and LR did not seem to have the answers, we also need to hit the Onion bag a bit more often at home too. If LR stays that's great as he is without doubt a great coach, if he goes, I wish him all the best, but, I think he needs to cut his teeth with a smaller club.

This is the key point.
No one is demanding 9 wins from 9.
People feel we should be doing better and clearly so does the owner.

I think this is the reset we need. A proper manager to come in fresh and sort us out

I might get some pelters here but personally I think the potential appointment of Paul Warne is possibily the best option available to us at this stage of our " rebirth ".
LR clearly was influential in WR's team, some even suggested he was THE tactician in the set-up. Our away form was woeful last season, and continues to be so. There's absolutely no chance of promotion repeatedly making the same mistakes away from home.
If you've not listened the the BBC podcast Moment Of Truth, where he and Oxford's Karl Robinson were mic'ed up for the second half of last season, I suggest you do. He is a supreme man manager. Direct yes - very! A complete sweary-Mary, but he can get players to run through brick walls for him. He knows what levers to pull for each of his players. I think we're all agreed we have one of the better squads in our division, but Paul Warne has done much more with lesser players and less than half our budget in this division. I listened to the podcast and did think he would be just the sort of motivator that would be ideal for us at this level. As much as I admire LR's loyalty , if you've ever seen the cameras in the dressing room, he's very vanilla and I'd even suggest uninspiring .
" But he plays hoofball doesn't he, Paul Warne? " I hear some cry. He plays with what he's got and the budget he's got. I think he'd be licking his lips at the opportunity to work with our squad. One thing I'd be confident of, based on what I've heard of him when he was mic'ed ( is that even a word? ) up is that nothing will be left on the pitch. He demands it from every player.
I'll take that with our squad. If we're not good enough in the final analysis, I'll accept that. But it won't be for the lack of Paul Warne pushing them to their limits and accepting anything less than 100% from every player. Oh, and his track record in this division isn't too shabby, so he's not all talk.
I like everything David Clowes has done so far, measured, not knee-jerk, but I believe he's seen enough to be brave when change is needed.
We will certainly be in for a hell of a ride if we do appoint him.
DC, you've got huge gonads Sir. I applaud you.

Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster reacted to Archied in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
Bizarre that folks are crying that this is just like the hire fire mel days ,, rosenior was never appointed manager
bizarre that folks are crying why let him bring in players then get rid ,,,,,,, we had next no players and nobody else to bring them in rather than rosenior
I am not in the least surprised he has not got the job permanently, to me we have some very decent players come in who started well and are going backwards ,the last three games have been a shambles , the win on Saturday papers over the cracks and to me it was down to the players determination and quality at this level that pulled us out of the fire , Liam said afterwards that he told the players at halftime to stay patient and keep doing what they were doing ( words to that affect),
we are neither one thing or the other under Liam this season , we Pratt about at the back to allow the opposition to get into shape behind the ball then go direct long ball or long diagonal
if your going direct then do it quick and catch the opposition out ??♂️
I hear a lot of talk about anti football but to me knocking the ball around your own half then turning back to your own half constantly, keeping the ball at all cost s at the expense of not scoring is the most anti football you can be

Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster reacted to Charliegeorge1962 in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
At the beginning of the season the bookies looked at our signings and quite rightly said favourites for automatic promotion. Since then it's been pretty good at home apart from the Plymouth game, Away from home absolutely dreadful. LR has been given all the new signings he wanted but the performances don't reflect the quality in depth we have.
It's a results game and the results have not been good enough.
The worrying thing is he was coaching the side so that would have to change too.
Bring in someone who has man- management skills, we do have a very good side , on paper far to good for league 1, but the performances and results don't reflect the quality we have.

Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster reacted to kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
I think we could see this coming in retrospect....
Ongoing goal scoring issues, failing to win away from home and the fact that clowes didn't see fit to make Liam the permanent manager after 11 games said it all really.
The number 1 priority for the new owner of a relegated club has got to be promotion as soon as possible and the most reliable route to that end is an experienced manager with recent promotions under their belt.
I'm not sure why we are all so surprised by this news.
Good luck to Liam,I'm sure in the future he will find a management job without quite so much expectation and pressure of a club like derby county.....he gave it a go but he needs more time to grow and learn i.m.o with a smaller club.
