People are saying he deserves financial backing. People are saying he deserves a transfer window. People are saying he deserves his own hand-picked coaching team.
If it had been a closely contested battle all the way down to the last day, I could understand this point.
If Rotherham and Wednesday had produced incredible form to keep us in danger, I could understand this point.
But it wasn’t always close. At the end of February, we were 9 points clear of Rotherham and 10 points clear of Wednesday. It’s down to 2 and 3 points respectively now.
But Rotherham and Wednesday haven’t produced incredible form. Wednesday have picked up 12 points in 13 games since. Rotherham have picked up 12 points in 14 games.
For us, it has been a capitulation of the highest order and any signs of optimism from Rooney’s early tenure have vanished faster than a burger from my plate.
And some of us want to reward Rooney with more time in the job? I can’t believe what I am reading.

All that really goes to show is that formations & team selection are secondary concerns to the effective implementation of tactics through good coaching, working on attacking routines, structure, defensive disciple, organisation at set pieces etc; secondary to game management, man management.
Unfortunately when watching us play there's very little evidence of any of that, so it's pretty much a moot point as to what team we put out - none of them seem to fully know their role whatever the formation.
We may as well just carry on throwing 11 players out there in some semblance of a formation, leave it up to them and hope for the best, it's too late for anything else now.

Exactly.. let's also not forget that barely a month ago Sheffield Wednesday demolished Cardiff 5-0... worrying in terms of potential outcomes for both games.

I said early on that I find it incredibly difficult to support Rooney mainly from a moral view.
I can't overlook several things. His performances as a player, his fight and desire as a player. Keeping himself in shape. He was entirely disrespectful, to his manager, his players, the club and the fans by not looking after himself. He had the talent and experience to be our star but he was the opposite.
He was given the job, he was who the prospective new owners wanted. Maybe we only chose him for financial reasons. He wasn't a reluctant hero, he wanted the job, he believed with no experience he could lead us. He believed he could lead us with no fitness on the pitch. Pure arrogance.
I don't like that he blamed it all on Cocu, I don't like that the club was classless in the everyone is happy and smiling training stories. He said he knew what to do, he said these players should be nowhere near the bottom 3. Well, look where we are.
Everything about him is inconsistent, his line ups, his tactics, the way he treats his players. I thought Whittaker was handled very badly, he should have hated scoring past us, but he didn't.
I can appreciate this has been a tough time, I think this would have been a tough season whoever was in charge but it has not been good enough for a long time.
There really isn't much to like about football currently. There isn't much to like about this club anymore. And now I see our next prospective new owner is being a fool on twitter. Arrogance. Somehow despite our position we still reek of it.
The sooner the Rooney story ends at this club the better.

If you automatically assume the position that everything is poo, everything will go wrong, nothing good will ever happen and constantly profecise doom then you'll be proven right far more than you'll be proven wrong, especially where Derby are concerned.
People naturally, despite outward projections, hold on to hope that things might actually not turn to poo. It's a curse of the human condition, even when you think you've given up hope, it can pop back up seemingly out of nowhere. Until it doesn't.
We're all feeling bad enough about things without it being constantly rammed down our throats, as much as 'we' revel in our misery at times, 'we' don't really want a constant reminder of how bad things are, or could be, and as such (naturally) get a little defensive.
I'm sure you're the same but maybe people don't (or rarely) see that hope in your posts, the humanity?
If outwardly all people see from you is a barrage of negativity, it's going to get their backs up. It comes across almost as programmed, it comes across as attention seeking, even if it isn't meant to.

    Perfectly put, well balanced.
Not without fault, but so many crucial, defining moments where we've been on the verge of him being heralded as one of the best owners we've had have gone against us, through things he couldn't possibly control.
It's all caught up with us, so now he's seen as one of the worst ever owners. No middle ground allowed.

Could you do a similar analysis of Forest & Stoke's results going into the final game of last season?
You knowsl, the day Forest lost 4-1 at home to a Stoke team with nothing to play for, facilitating a 7, 8(?) goal GD swing after spending 6 months looking guaranteed a play-off place.
That's the sort of thing that can happen on the final day, and I would not back us to be the team performing miracles.

No, its because our actual threats have been mismanaged. Someone with the shooting ability of Sibley being constantly messed around, played out of position & consequently sitting on just one goal for the season for example. Knight reduced to busywork facing his own goal, also often played out of position. Those 2 should be good for 10 goals between them if used at all correctly.
Coaxing just one more goal from any of our players in the last 10, 15, 20 games could have seen us safe by now, it's not asking for a lot

He is when playing on purely through injections, yes.
Prior to this he was our second most important player and well on course to match Martin's contribution last season. Martin achieved that thorough careful management of his health,  along with playing Waghorn in his place, in a defined if unpopular system.
He has himself admitted that his injury means he can't dominate opposition defenders and yet we still play him with that aim instead of playing it to his feet. It's madness.

That's a bit harsh considering Cocu and Derby managed 64 points and 10th place last season.
Cocu's miserable run at the start of the season was still marginally better than Rooney's end of season form.  I can't see any justification for believing Rooney will ever be a good manager, anywhere. There is simply nothing to back that up. I also can't understand why anyone would think we should give him another season at Derby to pursue his flailing managerial apprenticeship.

CKR is doing well when you consider he needs an injection just to play. We tend to just lump it up to him though for a physical battle (even though his injury means he loses a lot) instead of using the (pretty good!) skill he has with his feet, we're making it hard for him to perform.
Sibley "not doing enough" seems.to be based on his performances on the wing. The ONE time we used him correctly (Brentford) he scored a goal to get us a point! I'm.not moaning about him not playing, I'm moaning about the use of him when he does.
We've tossed the captaincy around so often this season that it's more meaningless than ever - Rooney gave it to Knight for a short spell because of his work ethic but it clearly weighed down on his shoulders - that itself could have contributed to Knight's poor form. Again though, he's been played out of his natural position more times than not.
Buchanan has been OK. Bird doesn't really have a natural or consistent place in Rooney's tactics.

If Brentford had signed Marriott and we'd had signed Toney you could guarantee Marriott would have scored 25 goals for the Bees and Toney would have struggled to score about 6 goals for us.. he'd have been played out of position...he'd have been in and out of the team and our fans would be complaining about our recruitment process.

Not really the point. He hasn't set them up well to compensate for his loss.
Why hasn't Shinnie been coached to provide an effective shield for the defence and played within his limits?
If he was coached to play the game like Eustace did for us we be better off, instead we've often used him as the only player breaking forward from midfield,  meaning he's often out of position when defending the edge of our box. Knight & Sibley could have been alternated in that role with Shinnie sitting.
We need to have a plan of our own, some discipline, players knowing their role and sticking to it.  Instead we've tried to be too 'clever' despite Rooney's supposed simplification of tactics

Rosenior & Given are nearly as inexperienced as he is, what advice can they really offer?
Rooney most definitely does have some pigheadedness in him, he's similar to Nigel Clough in this regard imo, for better or worse.

Agree re Lampard (obviously), disagree re Cocu - it's a pretty even amount of poo there but Rooney has dealt with much lower expectations.
Any damage to his reputation is of his own doing imo mainly down to (whether perceived, partially real or outright real) hypocrisy, I'd even say he hasn't damaged it amongst anyone other than Derby supporters - the wider world will still think he's done heroically to take it to the last game.
