You're completely correct. I don't think it is a coincidence that most of our recent success has come with a manager who was more the arm around the should type of manager.

This maybe a bit melodramatic but I haven't felt this down about the club since the three amigos were in charge. To see a side that not very long ago were playing some of the best football I've ever seen from a derby side and capable of scoring goals such as johnson's second against Hull in the league, be systematically deconstructed and demoralised is devastating.

You see to me I don't mind when a manager talks rubbish because they are usually trying to deflect attention away from players and keep confidences levels. The top managers are fantastic at it, they usually blame anything but the players no matter if it adds up. To me what we are seeing from Pearson here is a man who is genuinely concerned whether he will be in a job come monday and is trying to shift blame onto playing staff to save his skin. When the fact is no matter how you approach  it the start of this season has been horribly mismanaged.

Is it really baffling to call for a system that has had previous success when we are so woeful at the minute?
You don't need a target man to play 433, you just need a striker who is willing to get involved in the build up play and get support around. You mentioned Hanson yourself also Johnson surely can fulfill that role.
No I'm not saying we need to change to exactly 433 but we need change from Pearson's 442 because this 442 with these  tactics are clearly not suited to the playing squad.

When people or players lack confidence, they need faith put into them, and they need it rebuilding.
When a so called confidence player looks poor and his confidence looks shot, it reflects bad on the manager. (ie christie)
when a player suddenly starts performing close to his best again after a new manager comes in, it looks good on the manager (see the case of Lallana at Liverpool or Sterling at Man City from this season).
AS for motivation it is a lot like confidence, you can be motivated in differnt ways in all works of life. Having fun at work, and training with a smile on your face is a good start. Not everyone responds to being given a bollocking all the time. They need guidance!!!
I  can imagine Hughes and Bryson being asked to do something which is a bit alien to them isnt much fun when the team is losing, and losing means you then lack the confidence and the motivation to know what to do about it.
The fact Pearson doesnt see any of this shows what a poor manager he is, if he cannot adapit his methods for different players with different strengths and different personalities.
A good manager could have took Leicester to a 100 point season, + taken Derby on this season without trying to use the same tactics for both. Which are clearly different animals.

Read the forum namely the Chris Martin transfer thread and pick what you can out of it. We cant really comment on any matters though else we can get the forum into trouble.

I had a job in the past, where the manager treated me like a piece of dirt on his shoe and I lost all my motivation to work hard for him, meanwhile I had jobs where the my manager has been supportive but also critical when the time is right and always keen to give advice/encouragement and I was more happy and able to perform better, the bully boy attitude of bosses does not work in 21st century in any workplace IMO.
People talk about wages, well we live in a capitalist society, hardly the players fault they get paid so much and you'd be a complete idiot to turn down a pay rise if you do the same job.

Dont worry. Things will hopefully never get to the stage as we were under the 3 amigos. Our club was on the brink of not existing, thats some other level ****.
At least you can take heart in the fact that many Rams fans feel the same way. And I feel the fans are in a much better place than they were 10 years ago to actually have a say in the running of the club.
Mel is no amigo and Pearson is no demi-god but things will get better with or without Pearson.
My own personal worry are the number of rumblings coming out of the club from 'ITK' people I dont believe them all for one second but very often there is no smoke without fire. And a happy club is one where everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Has nobody noticed that it is the Alpha males who are being outcast by Nigel Pearson?
    Shackell, Martin, Johnson.
Probably 3 of the say top 5 players in the Derby team that you wouldn't want to get into a scrap with....
.... Shackell and Johnson are basically off the shelf captains, whilst Martin is never scared to open his gob.
Could this be some sort of problem that Pearson has with managing big personalities? Does Pearson like to rule by fear, and he felt the need to rid the squad of the players who would have the ******** to stand toe-to-toe with him?
I don't want to hear Derby fans bemoan a lack of leaders on the pitch at any time this season, the ones you have aren't compatible with your manager

You can even take this one step further and predict cardiff will score around the 60 min mark not long after subs have been made and for the remainder of the game we will be restricted to long range shots.

Five assists, for some reason he's not officially been credited the assist for his knockdown to Russell against Hull.

Despite agreeing with the gist of your posting about cardiff being a disaster, I can't help but think that looks a far more balanced side that what started against blackburn. At least then we might have somebody upfront who was going to show for the ball from time to time. Plus ince has got it in his locker just to curl one in from 25 yards, which could boost confidence tremendously.

I've just been watching Southampton put three past West Ham, hard to believe that not so long ago Southampton were languishing in League 1.
What they did after relegation was restructure and establish a brilliant working model at the club, they created a set way of doing things, not to be deviated from, the Manager and player fits the system, not the other way round. Some of the Mangers they have found are quite frankly astonishing, pochetino, Koeman and now Puel who has 4 wins on the bounce and looks to have transitioned into the role seamlessly, like those before him. At one point they were managerless but were still bringing in players like Shane Long, the club sill had a brain.
Mel had tried to follow a similar model and initially I was very excited and pleased by the prospect, he had set a way of playing, had given the club an identity and a model not to be deviated from, it was wonderful. . .
But then the worst thing happened, like the players Mel bottled it when it mattered most, he panicked. A couple of managerial issues and quite frankly, appauling recruitment decisions  made after significant investment, everybody convinced a better squad could have been assembled for half the money spent.
We now find ourselves completely off the tracks, an express train heading for the premier league that needed some minor maintenance to get it there now finds itself totally derailed and in disrepair. The model is forgotten, the panic button well and truly pressed.
So how do we fix the train and get it back on the rails? simple, go back to the things that made it run in the first place, even if that means we have to expect long delays in the meantime.
Come on Mel, stay strong, re find that model and stick to it, give us our identity back
    you'll get us there eventually.

In all seriousness, though, judging by Pearson's comments, I fancy this to be an absolute disaster!!
    I expect:
Mitchell; Christie, Keogh, Pearce, Olsson; Elsnik, Johnson, Hughes, Anya; Ince & Vydra

He appoints the recruitment staff and I believe has people coaching for him. He's a glorified director of football who picks the team and a direct influence on what's being coached.

    Mel has pressed it, 100%
He has totally deviated from the structure he put in place and swore he would stick by. The Head coach title whereby he individual coaches and develops the team following the structure and ethos dictated by the club has completely been removed.
We now have a manager, who is in total control of the footballing side of things, formation, style of play etc. Nigel has said himself he likes to change every aspect of a club, just as he did at Leicester.
That is a complete turnaround by Mel and the club of a structure and process that almost got us there, it just needed tinkering not blowing up!
we we now find ourselves in the relegation zone having scored twice at home all season. Early days yet but I think it was a panicked decision and one that will bite us on the arse.
Although i will say that I was 100% for Pearson coming in, it's just that I thought he would be given the same model to follow as the others, not completely destroy it.

My only problem with playing a 532/352 would be the left sided cb would have to be Shackell or pearce and they could easily get exposed for pace when having to cover the wing back. But I'd much rather give it a go than what we are seeing right now.

Johnson could do a job there. Hanson deputised there well last season. Or Pearson could have spotted the obvious and brought one in the summer.
