Did we play the car crash wing back formation again?
We've got some very decent midfielders - probably amongst the best in the league - and he seems to want to play around them not through them - absolutely mind boggling

Maybe you could get a little excited about him signing Waggy. Two goals and one assist in not many minutes on the pitch. 🤗

Last season our fullbacks for many games were Smith (a CM) and Sibley (an AM) and neither of them embarrassed themselves
I really think a couple of players whose positions are a tiny bit further forward than RB could probably adapt

Footballers have a limited time career so need to maximise the money they can make in that time?
Some of them will have seen Will Hughes have too much faith in us and (maybe) not achieve the potential he had if he'd left sooner?
If you're given the choice between a 5 year plan to get PL football from a league one club Vs a 3 year plan from a Championship club (or 3 year pathway to first team with an already PL club) which one would you choose?
There are loads of reasons footballers would want to move on - I'm cynical and have lost any faith in the idea that they should show any loyalty - why should Cashin or Bird do that? I think sticking with us this far after the last few years is pretty good on their part already tbh - now they have to think of their careers
Also - that's just the kind of player he is - He'll run through walls for whoever he plays for

If he is in the frame for us I doubt he'd need to move house - his last two permanent clubs have been Huddersfield and Sheff Weds so chances are he lives somewhere in that general area - probably an hour, maybe a 90 mins drive to Moor Farm - A lot of footballers commute further than that every day for work

If it's a maths problem then no, we don't
I think there were 8 games last season where McGoldrick goals changed the result of a game - not 22 games - And I think 4 of those were in the last 10 games where the whole squad looked knackered and that class was needed all the more
Bigger, stronger squad with more strength in dept this season - I'm not excited about missing a 20 goal a season striker - I'm not excited about losing the class up top - but it's not a necessity by a long shot - a 10 goal a season striker won't replace the total goals McGoldrick scored but they could replace the results...

Yes, sorry, I was agreeing with you in a bad way 🤣 I agree with the premise that mathematically we don't need a 20 goal a season striker - but also wanted to point out (to other posters) that actually a 20+ goal a season striker probably isn't scoring 20 significant goals per season - you need to replicate (and improve on) the wins not the goals

I think we may be on the same page. I was looking to help other fans with concerns and reservations about our forward line without McGoldrick see that there’s potentially still plenty of goals in this squad, and as you rightly say, if Warne and co can get the players we do have scoring goals as well as keeping them out then our overall results and success can improve 🐏

There's a lot of over analysing of Sibley for a thread about signings...
Is it not quite simple? He seems to be best as a 10 and we couldn't afford to play one under Rooney - most teams don't in a relegation dog fight - you play a DM (6?) and two CMs (8) - in tough games you may even play two 6s and an 8 - then you rely on your fullbacks and wingers to provide the break through - the little game time he got last year was on the wing / out of position because that's where Rooney could risk him
LR started with two 8s and a 6 against Oxford and brought on his 10 later to replace an 8 and add more cut through - it worked - we won
