Can’t stand the term “woke”, overused now as a way of dismissing someone’s opinion.
It’s not woke to not want to be surrounded by huge clouds of toxic smoke.
It’s not woke to disagree with fans running on to the pitch, fans that in recent seasons have started to attack the players we pay to see.
It’s not woke to not want to be surrounded by coke heads.
It’s also not woke to hold the opinion our songs and chants would be better if they supported the team rather than abused the opposition or even ex players that haven’t even played for over 20 years. Yes I’m talking about Stan Collymore, the guy we sing about randomly in games where even the opposition have no connections to Collymore which I just find utterly bizarre.
The game has changed, we do have more families and women attending games now that enjoy the game and want to do so in a safe environment.
I couldn’t tell you want the atmospheres were like in the 70s or 80s, it’s not the Baseball Ground and I have never been chased or chased opposition fans down the streets of Pride Park but I can tell you that even last season at times I had goosebumps.
We haven’t had atmospheres like it since 13/14, it’s not hard to see the connection between 13/14 and 21/22.
The fans were united, together.
So rather than alienate sections of the fanbase, why not continue to create an atmosphere that ALL fans can enjoy and get behind the team.
Regardless of the lyrics, the South Stand can look and sound great in full voice singing about Stan Collymore, although doesn’t come close to when the whole ground is rocking to a chant that even those enjoying a picnic in the West Stand, or the families over in the North stand join in.
Again, not a woke view.

Just checking - you're saying being more tolerant and understanding of fellow human beings and just being a bit nicer to everyone is an awful ideology? And you're saying it's scientifically provable that being purposefully offensive to other people makes society better?
I'd genuinely like to know because I think it's interesting to hear other people's opinions and try to understand where they're coming from

Oh wait I know this one - is it a fairer and more tolerant world where everyone is a bit more understanding and generally nicer to people who are different than they are?
No wait, can't possibly be that it sounds way too 'woke'

I think Home Grown means in the EFL not at Derby specifically

Maybe we just have an owner who thinks transfers should be paid for with money we actually have rather than speculating by sending us into debt?
We haven't sold anyone yet so how would we have fees to buy anyone? Clowes has already stumped up a bunch of money to pay our debts (probably over time) and we all know that with modern football wages season ticket money barely leaves anything left over - So I would imagine the manager has been given a simple instruction that he can spend whatever he generates in player sales

Mate - please don't let this stress you out at all - you haven't caused trouble at all - we'll never all agree about a topic or the way people speak and the chat that came out if it is just about other people wanting to debate and nothing to do with what you said
You're always a valued ray of positive support for Derby on this forum as far as I'm concerned and I'd hate to see our bickering upsetting you

The fact that you're all discussing this topic should be applauded - we're only going to solve issues in society by coming together and talking about them
The fact that you all seem to think your own viewpoints are inherently right is more problematic - I'm not sure a bunch of anonymous grey-faces on an internet forum are best placed to decide what constitutes racism
Nice to have a pre-season win though eh?

With these issues it's always best to consider harm rather than offence - whether there is any potential harm in using an expression. I'd say there isn't any here, and that (a couple of) people are acting with great motives but coming at things from a wrong angle.
Anyway, hopefully we can agree we're all part of Liam Rosenior's Black & White Army

Using expressions like "an accident black spot" or a "black day for X" is problematic because it's using "black" to mean "bad", so most people these days will find a different way to express this, quite rightly.
Saying a black person is black isn't problematic. It may have been unnecessary on this occasion and so better left out, but it's not racist to include skin tone as an identifier where it makes things clear. On the contrary, dancing around trying to avoid saying a black person is black can honestly be more problematic - you're acting like you think black = bad. It's not.
Anyway that said, Kwaku Oduroh played really well and I'd like to see him play lots of minutes this preseason

cheron85 got a reaction from Caerphilly Ram in New signings, who will be first...and next?
Fully agree - I think each would be class at this level but equally this is a level below where they should be playing. If they were older I'd maybe ask them to give another season to see if we can bounce straight back - but at their ages they need to be progressing and can only happen playing a better quality of opposition than they'll face with us.
I don't think Sibley will go anywhere though - Derby lad. Equally I think Bird will stay. As internationals aiming to keep their places I think Bielik and Knight will be looking for moves and if a fair bid comes in then I think it would be right to take it. As much as it's galling for us, none of the players got us into this mess and on the pitch last season they kept us up... So it's hard to justify standing in their way of leaving.
