I don’t know. Warne probably doesn’t either as he barely gave any of our academy lads a chance in the EFL Trophy. A big opportunity missed to check if these players are ready in a non pressure situation.

Thompson, Bird, Fornah, NML, Collins, CBT. Works absolutely fine and would solve so many issues.

I think under Warne these players are as far away from the first team as anyone was under Rowett.
It’s a pity, and ultimately makes little sense given our financial situation. What’s the point in the expenditure if you’re not going to give players a chance and sell them?

Does make me laugh when I hear Hourihane being compared with Bird
one is 32 and I suspect came here and was brought here to do virtually what he’s doing
last night Hourihane received a really bad challenge but at least tries to put a foot in …young max will try and nick it rather than put his body on the line
Hourihane is what I expected and chips in with goals I’m afraid Bird seems a nice little player who you don’t notice much
If you were looking at Max there is no way you’d think …yes our team needs him in our midfield as he’s not influential and doesn’t do the hard part without the ball
occasionally Bird will show some neat touches and a nice bit of skill but occasionally is the problem we need a more influential midfielder who will bark orders and dictate the game a bit that is not Max or Hourihane but Houriahne would get in any side in L1 Max wouldn’t
Bird is still learning and needs a dominant player next to him instead he’s being asked to do what he’s not comfortable with
Hourihane is what he is but I expect more from Max he needs to step up and take some responsibility but he doesn’t
so get a really strong CM in who max can benefit from as Hourihane is not that player
I would play 3 in midfield all day long and getting the right player to go in there is more important than any striker at the moment but the biggest problem I think is the fact the midfield is not as important to Warne as it is to a lot of fans ….he wants two touch move the ball on …not control and be knowledgeable as to when to pass and when to keep the ball
I really hope the football we’re watching at the moment is not long term but I doubt it ….its not great and that starts with the manager

I’ve defender Bird in the past, but my patience has gone. He should be dominating at this level. Instead he’s chasing shadows. Doesn’t contribute enough offensively or defensively. Powder puff. Can’t tackle. Poor. He’ll go in the summer. A lower champ team will take him. He needs to play in a 3 though. Him and Hourihane are getting done every time as a 2.

Did you watch the game? Easily our best player. Only a 7/10 but decent. Best of a bad bunch

Why didn’t we play  a 3 then? Thompson as a ‘10’ is bizarre. He doesn’t have the guile, touch or attacking prowess for an attacking role. He’s a hustler. That should have been utilised deeper to gain control of the midfield.

Yeah he was massively exposed. 2v1, they had acres on that side. Not his fault though. He could’ve closed down a bit quicker, but the issue was how easy it was to switch the play and how much space they had with an overload to go with it. Derbys shape was shocking for that goal.

No idea what the strategy is. No idea what the tactical approach is, beyond 'put out 11 "good characters", tell them to get it forward quickly, and see what they come up with'.
Eight points off automatic and heading in the wrong direction, despite the manager inheriting a more-than-decent squad, and being given plenty of latitude to sign new players. Odd, piecemeal recruitment with no long-term vision. A squad increasingly tilted towards technically limited, League One journeymen.
Anyone questioning any of this jeered and sneered at - as if you can't really care about something unless you believe, contrary to all evidence, that everything is absolutely fine!
    It isn't. It really isn't.
