I think it's more a case of modern football tactics. How many teams (especially in top leagues across the world) regularly attack down the wings and whip crosses onto the head of a target man? I can't really think of any. Most teams tend to use wide attackers as inside forwards who cut inside and play a sharp pass into the box or perhaps a low cross for a poacher type forward to score. Gone are the days where you'd get a Duncan Ferguson type striker getting lots of headed opportunities from crosses each match. Most of this type of chance will come from set plays now, with open play being focussed on quick passes around the box trying to open up gaps in the defence. Teams are less likely to score from crosses into the box than a controlled pass into the box. Or that's how I see teams like Man City etc. attacking anyway.
I think a lot of the change has come down to the evolution of players in certain positions. Full backs are some of the fittest players on the pitch now and the goalkeepers are athletic and have lightning quick reactions. Not saying that this wasn't also the case back in the day, but it is the expected level now. Also pitch quality means that teams can keep control of the ball better with passes along the ground.

    Pros:
plays across the back 4 in that video (well not LB, but we have lots of them...) has scored some goals from corners looks comfortable on the ball and can look up while the ball is at his feet Cons:
some of those challenges in the video will probably get cards with the standard of champ refereeing there was a clip where he fouled someone in the box and where he nearly scored an OG. Are these really highlights for him? his name isn't great for puns unless you like Japanese food ingredients

Phillip works hard in class but must be careful not to be distracted by others. His homework is exemplary and some of his best pieces of the year were produced from home.
Phillip works well within a group, sharing ideas and has strong communication skills
Phillip has real potential but this doesn't always show in test conditions. His exam results haven't reflected what he is capable of and for Phillip to achieve his potential he must be able to replicate his class and homework in exam conditions.
Phillip must be sure to apply the same effort to all projects. He does have a tendency to switch off during his least favourite subjects.
We wish Phillip all the best when he returns in September.

Loyalty is nonsense. The club or the fans don't show any loyalty to the players, so I fail to see why the players should be held to a higher standard. Any player who says they want to stay at Derby for the rest of their career is a goddamn idiot. Below is what Bielik actually said - he wants to try his best to get us promoted, but if doesn't work out he wants to try and get back to the Prem. If he does well for us we shouldn't be standing in his way out of some misguided notion of "loyalty".

“I’ve signed a five-year contract. My ambition is a promotion with the Derby County team,”
“If it does not happen this season, we will try next year. If we do not succeed next year, I do not know what will happen, because I would like to play in the highest league.
“However, if it happens in two to three years, that’s fine.
“I will fight to get there with my current team but if we don’t succeed, there may be a club from the Premier League that will want to loan or buy me out.”

I like Bielik. The lad has got ambition and so he made it clear about how he wants his career to progress. I don't see anything wrong with saying that he wants to play at a higher level and if he can't achieve it with the current club in a couple of seasons then he'd look to move on.
All players should be looking to play at the highest possible level and he clearly doesn't mind giving it some time at Derby to make it happen with us. I'd be more concerned if a player said he didn't mind what level he was playing at as long as it is with Derby, that says to me that they're just happy receiving a pay cheque without the club going anywhere.
