    So many get fixated by individual match results but really the only thing that matters in the promotion challenge is to maintain a rolling 10points return across the last five games. It doesn’t matter where the points come from - they all count the same value. If we keep that rolling two pints per game average we’ll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
    And even after today’s game, we are still at 10 points from the last five games.

    I'm confused about why the consensus seems to be that we should have gone 4-3-3 earlier because I feel like playing a 3/5 kept us in the game when they were pressing. Their front two and the supporting midfielder would have overrun a back 4 because, let's be honest, you'd be wanting the fullbacks to bomb on too, so it'd be 2v3 on the break. You can't go away to a form team and play that aggressively.
    My problem with the formation was the frantic switching at the end where the players looked lost as to what they were supposed to be doing.
    Overall, two poor teams today. I think we win that with a fit squad, but it is what it is.

    Which club was he Head Coach at for those 2 relegations? Might those relegations have more to do with the club than the Head Coach?
    Where were they when he jumped ship to come to Derby, where did they end up and what is going to happen to them at the end of this season?
    There's an old adage that you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Might the Miller's pending relegation and their plummet for the verge of the playoffs to near relegation last season point to it being the club more than the trainer who is responsible?

    You despair at fans of the club being happy we won and have 3 more points on the board?
    You keep mentioning abstract concepts like luck, fate, “deserved” wins and have seemingly created a database from which to derive your interpretations of those abstract concepts….factually we won yesterday, we also won on Tuesday night at Exeter, we are second in the form table over the last 6 games, 4th in the form table over the last 10 games, AND…crucially this is the big one…. Sit second in the actual league one table, not the “lucky table” or the “yes but what if table”, the actual league one table which is determined by actual results in football matches.
    Here’s some evidence of the facts I’m talking about;

    For that scenario to happen Portsmouth would have been beaten twice ( by us and Bolton) so the most they could get is 102 points, making promotion in our own hands.

    I haven’t seen the game so can’t comment on how we’ve played but I have to say I don’t get this whole ‘we should be beating Stevenage’ line, as if they are canon fodder. They have occupied a top six spot for more of this season than Derby, have a top three away record and set up in a way that many ‘ better’ sides struggle against.
    As the old adage goes, you have to earn the right to win a game before you win a game. That appears to be the case today.
