I described he first 20 minutes of the second half as green shoots of potential from the Bird - Collo - NML partnership, to a mate. I'd say by the end of the half it was a masterclass. Pretty much all providing for each other at some point, if we were a little more clinical it could easily have been 4 or 5.
There will be debates on Bird's best position still but that is exactly what I think we've lacked from him previously - leaving his mark on the game. It doesn't have to be a stat or goal but having him in the thick of the play is going to benefit him and us IMO.

I felt the first 10 minutes showed real promise, we got off to a good start thanks to a fantastic delivery from Hourihane and header from Collins. Moments later, NML should’ve scored thanks to fantastic work from Collins. Forsyth then had that weird back pass header that looped over Wildsmith and out for a corner and then I felt the panic in the team. We were then comfortably second best all over the pitch, mostly in midfield, but Bradley had a few weird moments, as did Wildsmith.
At half-time, I wanted to see a couple of changes and a bit of game management. Warne opted to keep the players who ended the first half on the pitch and from the kick off where we went back to Cashin and he was pressured to which Burton won a throw-in, you’re expecting the worse after how the week has gone. Nevertheless, from that moment onwards, we took control of the game and created a number of very good opportunities - it finished 3-0 but Bird should’ve scored and NML probably twice. The improvement in the midfield in the second half was excellent and very pleasing. If we can get the ball to Hourihane in and around the box then there is not many better in the league at that range and so it proved. Good to see Waghorn come on and have an immediate effect, honestly looks far too good for this level technically and is still fit enough to get about. Washington off the mark. All in all, a very good second half performance after what was a fairly concerning first one.
An away win and a good second half performance is definitely two things we struggled with last season, though, so maybe this win is bigger than we thought - our first in the league at Burton too.
Player ratings for what it’s worth -
    Wildsmith - 6
    Nelson - 7
    Bradley - 6
    Cashin - 6
    Ward - 7
    Hourihane - 8
    Smith - 6
    Bird - 8
    Forsyth - 7
    NML - 7
    Collins - 8
    Waghorn - 7
    Washington - 7
    Thompson - 6
    Elder, Wilson - N/A

Just haven’t had the quality in those moments that matter. NML X2 and Bird wasteful in the final third, all in great positions.

NML having one of his worst days I reckon. Lazy challenge, deserved yellow.

No shock its the same 11, despite some of the meltdown amongst fans, we actually played alright vs Wigan with this lineup & were unlucky not to get something out the game.
Warne made a few changes midweek & we saw what happened there. Yes Thompson played well but I dont think it means he should come straight in when it was in a 2nd half of a cup game where the damage had already been done.
If/when he comes on again today, he needs to make as good an impact, if not even better than midweek.

If Hourihane is our top paid player and isn't making most peoples starting 11 I'd argue it's not just this summers spending which is hampering the budget!

The vast majority of fans are not going to get on Warneys  back this side of christmas.
Paul Warnes barmy army will be the loudest chant from the South Stand for the next few home games.
You're all welcome to join in to help the club. Its free and feels really good to sing your heart out for the Rams.

Lets see how we get on in the 2nd game of the season!

Derby fans; hate three at the back, hate route one, hate old players, hate overlapping centre backs.
Also Derby fans; let’s replace Warne with Moore or Wilder.
    This place is mental.

I agree. I've been fairly appalled by the negative posting lately. Constructive criticism is fine, and speculation is part of the fun, but slagging players & staff off for the sake of it is a real drag. I get enough negativity in real-life, football is supposed to be an escape!

There's a chunk of fans who think Derby should win 3-0 every week, win every tackle, score with every shot, and it's just not realistic. Back the club, back the players, back the manager. Accept the financial reality.

It does amuse me that there are a band of posters who literally only appear when we're losing/not playing well.
I don't know if they're fans or just WUM's but it seems you can post whatever alarmist accusations and BS you like, as long as you then add "I hope I'm worng" somewhere in there.

Hope he sticks with his three at the back, 180 minutes isn't enough evidence to give up on the last 5 weeks prep for IMO. Especially when, for periods on Saturday, we looked pretty good.
Just read Cashin is a kick it/head it type of defender. Good lord. Probably one of the best on the ball for us last year. Anticipation is great, which is needed for his lack of pace. Even Nelson looked alright at the weekend. I swear some people just make s*** up to fit an argument. Some really dangerous opinions on here.

He did nothing of the sort.
It was a mistake of his to decide to go on a long, unstructured & rambling rant where he shared openly every thought in his head at that moment in time.
However, the point he kept coming back to is that it's his responsibility.
