How is he leeching off Derby? We gave him the contract. As far as I can tell he trains and plays with the u23 squad, I’ve never heard of him causing disruption or not turning up. If the manager deems him not good enough and doesn’t play him, that’s hardly his fault either.

He knows he will likely only receive a maximum of a third of what he is earning now, what incentive is there for him to find a new club? You may say to play football, but he has the chance to secure his family’s financial future for the rest of his life. I feel sorry that they are being made out as ‘leechers’ etc, he does his job just as much as any other player at the club.

He was actually quite a decent player, was fantastic for Watford on their promotion run... he’s versatile as well as he can play full back or on the wing. I can’t even remember him playing for Derby now to say if he was decent for us or not, but something must have gone on for him not to be even used as a back up squad player.

I was watching the Sunderland til I die doc the other day and the Jack Rodwell story reminded me of Anya. I actually felt sorry for Rodwell who was made into this hate figure because of the ineptitude of who ever negotiated his contract, every single fan calling him out would do the exact same in his situation and I feel the same for Anya.

The situation is different yes, but the way they are perceived by their respective fan bases are comparable ie leechers or money grabbers etc.

I imagine most footballers consider this to be nothing more than a job.  How many of us in our normal jobs would turn down the chance to earn Director level wages for shop floor responsibilities - particularly when you have no control over whether you are allowed into the boardroom (i.e the first team).  From a fan's perspective, I agree that it looks terrible and has definitely been a bad move for the club. However, I'm not sure I blame Anya and I don't see it as an opportunity to have a pop at Mel (but certain people never tire of an opportunity to do that).  Anya is doing what's best for him; Mel was doing what he thought was best for the club in backing his manager and trusting his staff not to hand out silly contracts.  Mistakes are made.  Learn from them and move on.
p.s. I know that is a tortured analogy with lots of holes and caveats in it!!! My point is, I reckon I might have done the same at the stage he is at in his career.

Ok, I’ll be that guy - I don’t blame him. He’s never once, to my knowledge, made himself unavailable to play. He’s just not been picked by the managers who’ve been in charge. What more can he do? All he can do is work hard in training and try to impress - it’s not his fault if he’s not good enough/ not suited to the team. The people to blame for that are the incompetent recruitment team we had around that time. I’ve got absolutely no problem with Anya personally - it’s not like he’s a known troublemaker, he’s been very professional playing with the U23s.
I’d be extremely annoyed if I was Mel, with all that money being wasted - but I wouldn’t be annoyed at Anya, I’d be annoyed at whoever bought him. It was an appalling piece of recruitment, simple as that - and far from the only one around that time. I mean a 4 year contract ffs!

Ramchope reacted to HuddersRam in Derby Pride (it's a book)
So about 14 months ago now, I started a topic called The Pursuit for Pereplotkins. It was more of a hopeful topic about a book I was trying to work out in my head about the past 20 or so years of the club. Fast forward to today and my search for the Latvian never actually began.
BUT I am a bit too excited to say that over this time, I've been able to worm my way into conversations with 55 others who probably have more of a story to tell than he would. So with that being said, Pride: The Inside Story of Derby County will be published later this year.
Through constant begging texts and an embarassing stream of emails to media teams across Europe, I've heard from all sorts of former Derby players, coaches and officials who have kindly given up their time to be part of this. From Stefano Eranio, Peter Gadsby, Steve McClaren and Inigo Idiakez through to Will Hughes, Harry Wilson, Johnny Russell and Gary Rowett (and plenty more in between including the finding of an Amigo), I've been lucky enough to be allowed to gaze through the different eras of the club to tell the story of everything that has gone on from the moment Pride Park first opened its doors.
It'll be available from later this year (I need to actually finish the last few chapters first) but hopefully it'll be of interest to a few of you on here and I'll be able to follow on from some of those who already produce such top content about the club.

I've set up a Twitter @PrideDCFC too, which I'll be using to share out some feature articles with those who have contributed their time. Because I've discovered 120,000 words isn't nearly enough. 🐏🐏🐏

Ramchope got a reaction from Will Hughes Hair in Best Full Backs in the League?
Most clubs in this division can only dream of having two full backs as good as both Bogle and Lowe come through their academy. Yes they can be frustrating at times, but they will learn and improve. If not, we haven’t lost out on anything.

Think of all the ‘established championship’ full backs we have signed over the years and how, let’s be honest the majority have been dross. At least Lowe and Bogle can play with the ball at their feet and can be exciting to watch at times. We have far bigger problems in the middle of defence and goalkeeper!

    A little off topic.
Obviously would love a last min dot com play-off push. Still plenty of games left.
However, the silver lining I am hoping for should we fail to make the grade - Wycombe vs. DCFC (hopefully) next season.
I am guessing you’re also excited by that potential fixture?

Recruitment team are naff, but the prejudgment is just unreal. I have longed for us to try and unearth gems from here and abroad, and if Cocu has identified a player with attributes he wants then let’s go for it. Much rather this than spunking pointless money on Blackman, Butterfield etc on the back of half a good season. Reserve judgment like a regular human.

Ramchope reacted to nottingram in We need to back Cocu
I don’t understand why it is so binary for people who are Cocu out.
I try and understand everybody’s viewpoint but how can people not see the quite frankly absurd mitigating circumstances that he is under. We start the season with a pretty poor squad that have had a horrifically organised pre season. A month into the season, we lose our best player to an off field incident which sees two other players arrested. Said player is suing the club and potentially his teammate. We hit January in a decent vein of form, maybe ready to push on with a couple of additions, but are charged with incidences predating Cocu which inhibit this.
Of course we should be doing better. I don’t think you can really argue that we are playing well or results are good enough. But Jesus Christ how stupid do you have to be to not be able to see the nonsense that Cocu has absolutely no control over. Weaker men would have walked a mile a long time ago.
Our most recent two managers have operated on short term agendas and buggered off when they had to sort it out. We finally have a manager who wants to prioritise long term development and you have idiots spoiled by a few seasons of semi success who want him out. Bizarre.
Thats not to mention the casual xenophobia seen on the match thread tonight, very disappointing.

I've seen Whittaker live twice, away at Fulham and yesterday at Palace. When he came on against Fulham he changed the game for us somewhat, he wanted to get on the ball, he was running at players with pace of which we sorely lacked throughout the rest of the 75 minutes. I was really impressed as I had to be honest not heard a great deal about him before this game. He performed fine at Palace, some nice touch and go's but didn't hug the byline or link that well with Bogle, it seemed he wanted to drift in field more and looked less confident when on the ball than against Fulham. His substitution for Holmes was the correct call.
I think he will do a decent job as an impact sub for the rest of the season if we fail to bring in any wide players this January, from what I have seen he certainly can be of more value right now than what Dowell or Josefzoon have proven to offer.

Really pleased with how the young players have come in and shown what they are capable of.
Some supporters need a bit more patience though. I’ve seen quite a few saying one in particular not good enough etc etc.
Cocu has shown he knows what he’s doing with them and that they’ve earned their place. Let’s make sure we give them our full support and not bin them after seeing them for just a few minutes. Some younger players will need a bit more time to adapt and I fully back Cocu for knowing how to handle them.
These are players that can potentially take our club forward and make the club worth a whole lot more.

    Sorry, but what?
Are you seriously suggesting Frank should turn round and say to Chelsea where he spent 13 years at, lives round the corner, their record goalscorer, competing in the Champions League no, I’m staying at Derby because of Audrina?
He owes her nothing and should not be making a career decision over any one fan.
Of course this is about him, same way when we sign and sell players it’s what is right for us. If Frank believes this is the right move for him and his family he should take it. This isn’t about us, any of us. This is a career decision.

People unfairly writing off Kelle due to 1 bad game I feel. So to add balance thought I'd make the case of why he HAS to be our number 1 next season.
    - 5th best minutes to goals conceded of all championship goalkeepers this season, averaging a goal against every 90 minutes. For comparison Carson averaged a goal against every 63 minutes.
Thats a difference of conceding 46 games over a season against 65, how many points would that equate to?
    - If we'd conceded 46 goals this season we'd of had the third best defensive record, only 5 conceded more than the best.
    - His save percentage was 4th best in the league at 72%, bettered only by Randolph, Pantillimon and Dean Henderson. Carsons was 65%.
Other factors such as increase in points per game etc. also reflect his impact on the team.
I find people writing him off after such an impact as laughable, and lets be honest a knee jerk reaction from the playoff final performance.
