First half, Curtis looked like a guy that hadn’t started a game since October. Second half, he looked like he had 45 minutes of football under his belt. If he starts on Tuesday, I reckon he’ll look like a player with 90 minutes of football in the tank. Hope that helps everyone ?.

What actually is Warne-ball though? The way we played today was very different to how we’ve played for the last month or so. It was much more like how we played when Warne first came in - very direct, balls being played over the top at every opportunity etc.  There was very little effort to actually construct anything in terms of football moves (ironically our goals being 2 notable exceptions…) From a football-purists point of view, it was a pretty poor watch tbh.
The last month or so, it’s been more like Warne’s own version of Rosenior-ball - playing out from the back, through the thirds etc, but doing everything a lot more aggressively (pressing, passing etc).
If the plan is to play like we have been doing recently, with the odd diversion into long balls for specific games (which to be fair, is what I think today probably was, given how radical the shift in styes was) then OK. If the last month has been a temporary blip and we’re intending to play like today for the rest of the season, then I’m less happy with it.

The per-player limit is part of the agreed business plan, not the overall League 1 rules.  There's a bunch of discussion about it in here:
We don't know for sure what the actual limit is (if there really is one), but suggestions seem to vary between £5k and £12k/week.

Without wanting to spoil the party too much, is it possible we can’t actually trigger it at the moment, because it would put us over one of the wage limits in the agreed business plan?

The counter is, if you’re going to rest him, then at home against a struggling side is probably a good time to do it.

The issue for me, is that there seems to be no game plan at all going forward.  We’re just aimlessly forcing the ball forward as quickly as we can, and hoping one of the forwards does something. At the moment McGoldrick is doing enough to win us a few games, and NML has done so at other times, but it’s not a recipe for long term success.  You have to have some kind of plan to win games, and I can’t see what ours is supposed to be at all.  We aren’t getting crosses in for Collins, we aren’t getting wingers isolated and running at a fullback, we aren’t controlling the ball in the middle of the park, we aren’t holding the ball up front, we aren’t really doing anything.  (I’m not saying you have to do all of that, but you have to be trying to do something.)

Bloody hell Roy, keep it to yourself mate. If other teams catch on to this we will have to come up with another equally cunning plan.

They’re playing wingbacks. Our wingers are occupying them, and it’s leaving both our fullbacks completely open.  So Sibley has all the time in the world to do whatever he wants.

The amount of pressure you're under does affect all of that stuff though.  First half we had no threat in behind, so they were quite happy to push up and press us in midfield, get in our faces etc.  Second half, with the threat of Dobbin and Barkhuizen running in behind, they suddenly drop 10 yards deeper and we get a lot more time and space to play.

They’re taking too much time in the ball because there’s nobody in space to pass to.  We basically had 5 players in a straight line across midfield, Collins stood up front on his own, with McGoldrick being the only player trying to find space. So any passes from those midfielders are going to either be sideways to each other, or have to be inch-perfect to pick out McGoldrick when he’s probably marked by 2 of theirs.  Add to that, our lack of pace in forward areas, which means they weren’t scared of anyone running in behind them and could push out and close down our space in midfield.  Those conditions are almost guaranteed to result in a turgid midfield slog.
As soon as we have pace up front, they dropped off 10 yards giving us much more room to play. And we had 4 guys in forward areas, not 2, giving us a lot more passing options.  It’s not rocket science.
