Just looked at the squad we had last time we got promoted from this division in 1986.
The comparison to the squad we have now is eye-watering.
GK: Steele, Wallington
Def: Blades, Buckley, Hindmarch, McLaren, Palmer
Mid: G. Williams, Micklewhite, Gregory, Thomas, McLaren
For: Gee, Davison, Christie

Can someone explain to me why we are still bookies favorites to win League 1?
The performances so far certainly dont suggest it. Everybody suggesting we need time to gel but then so do other teams. Lots suggesting we are short on strikers and midfielders. Others saying we have no money to change things because we are still under the EFL sanctions.
So why are we favorites. I don't understand.

You might want to start moaning now.

This is depressingly familiar. Strolling to another defeat.

looked like we were strolling this then looked like we threw it away then we won it.
Wish i had been there to see that.

I think you have to remember these are professional footballers. All they do all day long is play football. You should expect them to be able to score penalties more often than miss them. Le Tissier only missed 1 out of 50 odd. I do not agree it is a lottery. It would be a lottery if they picked 5 people out of the crowd to take them.
Its very disappointing to lose on penalties.
Its very encouraging that we held them to a draw and hopefully we can use this as a springboard for the rest of the season. I'm more pleased with the performance over 90 mins than the poor penalties but we must improve on that because it'll could cost us later on.

we've scored 2 out of the last 7 penalties. Hopeless.
Great 90 minute performance though.

We have good, but inconsistent players (for whatever reason), which is why they are in league one.
I would argue that we have poor but consistent players.

oh give over, we've been playing with ten men for over half an hour
We had a goal start, gave away 2 penalties, had a man sent off.
In the last 6 games we've beaten Cambridge and Wycombe but lost at home to Plymouth and PortVale, lost to Lincoln and couldn't beat Mansfield.
If anybody thinks the players are the best squad in the league they are deluded. Remember this is Port Vale (absolutely no disrespect intended) and we are at home. We should be winning with ten men!!

We’ve got one of the best squads in the league! Players far too good for this level.
So why are we mid-table?
-
I think the main problem is the players are simply not good enough even at this level.
They couldn't play for Rosenior and it looks like they can't play for Warne either.

Maybe Notts will bat again and not enforce the follow on ?
-
We seem to be throwing this game away too.
-
We could lose by 200 runs. Would that be a record too?

-
Looks like we have no belief that we can even get near this.

This is some of the worst bowling I have ever seen. Simply appalling.

Words fail me on how badly this match has been managed. Utterly incompetent.

The problem with Masood is he misses the next 3 games.
Good point, I'd forgotten that.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I don’t know of any obvious captain options. Du Plooy maybe? His red ball form isn’t great either.
Madsen until end of season? Obviously a temporary appointment.
Masood - doing well in T20?
Is Warne living on borrowed time?

McGoldrick had his head turned by Notts County. What does that say?
