That's really the essence of the EFL's problem. Virtually everyone else uses the straight line method but, as you say, other methods can still comply with FRS102. The EFL could have, and should have, specified a method in the FFP rules so as to provide conformity when dealing with what are clearly large numbers. We didn't do it wrongly (per our auditors), just differently, but that was enough for Gibson to perceive it as cheating and pressure the EFL to take action against us.

    It's about 400 pages.
Intangible assets (values of rights etc) is about 7 pages.
And like all such documents, amortisation is tackled obliquely in bits by going on about the measurement of value on acquisition, and subsequently. What the term of amortisation should be etc etc
What I think you would like to point to is section 18.22, which is basically writing down what amortisation is, states that you should amortize using a systematic method based on consumption of economic benefits and only at the end states that "if the pattern cannot be determined reliably then the straight line method will be used".
Lots of undefined terms. Systematic method. Reliably. Economic benefits.
So no, I see no codification of amortisation rules in any of that. Lots of principles, scope for opinion and judgement and therefore differences in interpretation to emerge.

You mean because the argument is that an approach we've taken to a technical topic may, in some people's opinion, be less "true and fair" somehow than doing it a different way.?
Trying to find objectivity by retrospectively considering whether an approach "fits" because the system is not codified..very tricky.
Given there are at least 4 or 5 different methods for amortisation in general circulation then why not one more?
The subjectivity and lack of codification is why there is such a delay.

I was fortunate enough to go to all of the Euro 96 games.  I would have liked to have gone to see England this time around, but as I'm no longer in the supporters club and with reduced capacity due to covid I guess that wouldn't have been impossible anyway so didn't even try 😕
That said, if the stadium is only half full or whatever because of restrictions yet, as with the G7, the rules are being applied differently to VIPs a lot of people including myself are going to feel justifiably upset.
Time to get my pitchfork out!

No you can't blame uefa for moving if their red line is "no quarantine" for its officials and gaggle of hangers on.
Nor can you blame UK gov for imposing new restrictions if they are indeed "following the science".
What would be, in my view, more difficult to defend is go UK gov varying rules to accommodate the uefa lot. I cannot see the justification as the numbers surely are not material in an economic sense and so all you're doing is stoking resentment among UK folk.

Smells of trying to avoid a write off in the ffp calcs.
Extra year, loan out to mitigate wage cost, spread your ffp write down. If we've been uber creative with our depreciation method might have been trying to defer more until later.

I think our case is considerably more complex than SWFC and the EFL themselves should be embarrassed with their part in the poorly drafted rules.
Given everything we've already had imposed, I can see more arguments and/or appeals.
