Dethorn reacted to Jourdan in Has DC lost faith in the recruitment process?
I think Clowes is as committed as ever. If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have sanctioned the move for CBT, for example. £400,000 is £400,000 more than he might have felt necessary.
If you look at the signings since he took over the club, I think Clowes has tried to build a competitive team and strike a good balance between ambition and prudence.
People want to complain about our transfer business this season, but every season has cases of players not working out. I think people seem to forget that only 11 players can play at any one time and not every signing will work because other players are getting game time and playing well and getting recognition.
Last season, there were senior players like Stearman, Davies, Chester and Loach who barely got a kick. There were young players signed like Oduroh who never looked like making an impact. So it happens, not just with Warne signings but there are all kinds of managers get signings wrong.

Dug this old thread out, just to say well done to Fozzy.
I remember seeing him flying down the left and whipping in some terrifying crosses and thinking he was some player.
Then I saw him being given a lesson at home against Wolves and thought he was finished, likewise with the three ligament injuries.
But then he reinvents himself as a CD when needs must, with the signings of Nelson, Bradley and Elder I thought his days would be number.
But no Fozzy has re reinvented himself as a LB again and is keeping people out - assisting and scoring.

Dethorn reacted to Archied in Eiran Cashin
It’s a strange one regards cashin and pace , you so often see pace measured over the first few yards where as when I watch cash he looks like his pace is in the last couple of yards aided by his technique to make that last little gap up with a great surge and timed tackle ,
easy to mistake it for last ditch desperation lunge but he is so good at it consistently that it’s much more than that
-
Dethorn reacted to richinspain in Eiran Cashin
I didn't say that I thought that he was as good as Todd, or even that he ever will be, only that his style reminds me so much of Colin Todd. Todd wasn't very tall either but still won more than his fair share of headers. Todd was faster than Cashin that's for sure, and also read the game faster than most mortals. There are many central defenders that would be in my all time Derby team ahead of Cashin having started watching them in the mid to late sixties, but that doesn't mean I can't compare two player's styles . You only picked me up on the Todd reference. Do you agree with the rest of my post?

Dethorn reacted to FlyBritishMidland in Warne Out Out
The bit in bold is something I’ve been mulling over.
I don’t think Warne is a good long term planner or strategist, he focuses on short term wins. This may explain his promotions followed by immediate relegations. In some way, who can blame him when you see the flak for a defeat. I think we’ll see less U21 layers used in the EFL Trophy, which is a shame as it’s an ideal stage to gain experience. He wants the short term wins. He’s more Mourinho than Fergie - Mourinho built teams for the short term, Fergie built clubs to leave a legacy.
For what it’s worth I wouldn’t say I’m pro-Warne but I’m pro-stability as I do think give a manager time we’ll benefit in the long run. But I’m wavering as to whether Warne is that manager.

Hang on, we had loads of possession today and did lots of short passes, I thought that is what the angry mob were after?
-
Dethorn reacted to Curtains in So turns out Warne is a Football genius .
Agreed .
Ward and Bird getting injured was a blow as was Sibley and Thompson .
Barks also injured hasn’t helped
Integrating new players isn’t easy and I always remember a classic case at Derby was David Nish awful at first brilliant in the end .
Warne will either succeed or not but I think he should be respected .
