18:07 - "We can tell you there will be no restrictions or embargo next season on fees for Derby County going to get players ...."

Obviously Clowes is committed to not making the same mistakes as the previous owner and the EFL will still be keeping a watch over what we do, but we no longer have to check things through with them.

Not seen the quotes about two pots for transfers? The business plan was part of the process of coming out of administration. It has agreed spending limits in. Do keep up

Don’t be insulting.  Nothing you have indicated shows we are working to  an exceptional EFL restriction.  We maybe of course but someone needs to prove it.  I still hold to the belief that we are working within our own budget.  We have used the loan pot for a purchase and pre advised EFL so they don’t assume it is another underhand trick.  DC is rightly cautious and may even use some of the sale proceeds from Bird and maybe even has from Knight to help cover some of the running costs.  We will see when the transfer pot gets used in the summer

I can't help thinking that if it had been the opposite and Bird had signed a new contract and Cashin been sold and loaned back, then the reaction of a very vocal few would have been very different.
I admit, I find it a strange operation all round considering Bristol apparently have been trying for a while to get the signing done. Surely it could have been moved on quickly, giving us a chance to sign a striker? With the deal that we have come to it is obvious that Bristol really wanted to sign Bird now rather than wait until the summer, or they could have just waited and if needs be increased his wages to get him to sign.

Anyway, thanks Max for all you've given to the club. Thanks for sticking with us when others took what looked like the easy way out. Now show the idiot element what you feel for this club and help us get promotion.

I wonder whether we are covering his new or old salary?

But it’s not DC’s budget it’s the EFL’s with restrictive structuring of - have this for loans and this for permanents.

not to mention every deal has to structured, agreed between clubs and then approved by the EFL. An extra level of complexity not faced by other clubs

I’ve seen no proof whatsoever that your claims are factual.  This is DCs budget and I don’t expect to see a radical change in it in the summer.  No transfer takes place for any club without EFL oversight.  Really happy to be proven wrong

I don’t think his agent would be doing his job if there wasn’t clauses in the contract stating that he could move if a certain fee was met if we didn’t go up.

That doesn’t take anything away from his loyalty to us though and safeguards both parties.

wasn't thin king about his decision, DCFC will cash in

It’s been said that the fee was higher than the compensation, so why accept less in the summer?

it's just guess work.  We don't know how much has been paid, we don't know whether we will be covering his new Champ pay and we don't know what the independent tribunal would have set as training compensation.  If you do then please share it because it would be nice to know

Nyambe is obviously first choice RB but I think it would be unfair to leave Wilson out.

He should be in the right of a three man midfield for me.

He can then work with Nyambe to create on the right side.

Adams will probably start on the bench but if he’s any good, should then play with either Bird or Hourihane (not both) filling the third slot.

Suspect the latter two will start tomorrow.

    Isn’t nyambe injured?

Agree. This goes all the way back to the philosophy in appointing Warne, and our competing priorities at the time - Going up at the earliest opportunity vs Rebuilding the club for the future. Those goals aren't necessarily compatible in the short term and in appointing Warne we effectively gave him free rein to get us up at all costs. If it works, great. If it doesn't then we're effectively wasted two years.

even with hindsight it is difficult to criticise the appointment.  He can't have had a big budget at rovrum and has a track record in Div1 second to none I guess.  Now the job looks too big for him regrettably

You would have to ask BC that,  probably so they didn’t get involved with a beauty contest with other clubs that might want to take on Bird and potentially offer bigger wages in the Summer window when budgets have changed.
Nothing to do with transfer fees , once Bird is out of contract it’s his choice where he goes DCFC would have no influence.
With regards to how the compo is worked not wanting to be rude but read the article ?
Mainly to do with how long at the club , appearances , current wages and wages in the new contract offer . It has been reported in the local press that we would be due a “substantial development fee” what ever that is. Hence why we could ignore low ball 250k bids by Hull etc.

I searched it but results did not show that specific page for whatever reason

I think they’re a pretty safe Championship club at the minute who are looking up the table. We’re miles off that.

My surprise is why he didn’t wait until the summer and then you’d think a top 6 Championship side would fancy him.

You never know, he may have been asked by Derby to accept Bristol’s offer as it was the best for Derby in the shorter term.

but why would that be, are we that desperate for cash today?

  11. 1 minute ago, Reggie Greenwood said:

There wouldn’t be a bidding war in the summer because Bird could just leave and we would get the financial compo award.

A quick Goole on “How to work out development compensation for EFL players “ gives you the formula. I’m an old dinosaur so unable to copy the link .

So by that we sold him now because we think we would get less in the summer?  Obviously Bristol disagree.  Surely they would only do that if they think they would have had to fight off competition in the summer.  I always thought there was no way to accurately predict what the independent tribunal would assess the training compensation to be

Couple of changes from the Cheltenham match.

Adams and Nyambe in for Wilson & Barkhuizen

So a bench of Wildsmith, Bradley, Ward, Wilson, Fornah, Thompson, Barkhuizen.

……….can someone let me know if they can find a better bench of subs in League 1 come Saturday afternoon! 👍😁

    is Adams match fit?

I don't think it's the worst transfer window ever but I think there is a bit of evidence, and a whole lot of assumption, that we might see this as a missed opportunity come May.

This is based on the perception that teams around us have strengthened. Yes they have added bodies but only results are a true metric of strengthened. There is also Warnes words about last January still ringing which for reasons to be told seem to have happened again. Thirdly, the league is so incredibly open and it seems these teams around us are looking at this season as their best chance in recent times. When stevenage have a realistic chance of the play offs, you can see the logic.

I don't think we'll make top 2 purely because after half a season, we've not been in there at all and we seem to be extracting every ounce of quality as is from a team which looks to be blowing from every orifice with 3 months of the season to go. However, I'd expect heads to roll, particularly bald ones, if we fail to win, let alone make, the play offs

I doubt he will be sacked.  DC gave him a contract and will be reluctant to pay the compo to him and his team.  That money will not be in the budget.

Like everyone else I'm disappointed that we couldn't get a striker over the line, but all this talk about the worst ever transfer window needs to be put into context.

Since the start of the window we have signed Nyambe, who we all feared would be on his bike. We did sign a striker in TJJ, who's fitness would have been assessed by the club or we could have let him go back to Arsenal spend the money on Smith only for him to possibly pick up an injury. Statistically, CBT seems to be an exciting signing which could go a long way to preventing burnout in players like NML. Likewise, Adams will hopefully give the midfield a boost.

Crucially we feared losing Cashin and/or. Bird for the run in, which hasn't happened. The extra money from Bird will go into the summer transfer pot.

Hopefully, we will soon see Washington and Waggy back and Brown benefiting from some adult game time when he returns.

I think that we were one, admittedly important, signing away from a good transfer window, but it could have been so much worse.

    impressed with your positivity.

So much worse?  Only if Cashin had been sold at 1050 last night and we had the joy of carrying that money through to the summer.  IMO we have lost Bird, he as a loanee is less that he was 24 hours ago.  CBT cost us 300k and left us running on gas by the looks of it.  Adams, played very little in the last year and ignoring that injury will be still an injury risk whilst he gains match fitness.

the lad is out of contract , not signing another one He would be gone in the summer anyway. If DCFC have got a better deal than the development compo they would have received I don’t think they had any choice but to do that deal

interested to know the basis for how much you think that the independent tribunal would have valued him at.

Bristol don't need him currently so hopefully have paid up in order to stop a bidding war in the summer.  There so many things I don't understand.  Why sell him now, why loan him back, why do we need the money now, if Bristol  think there will be a bidding war why didn't we just hang on?  I currently can think of nothing that makes this a good deal, perhaps someone else can suggest something

Just popped up on my YouTube club feed. Feels like a very poor attempt at late PR to try and smooth fan unrest! “Look what Max can do, and haven’t we been brilliant in negotiating him to stay until summer?”

What happens if he gets booed every time he touches the ball?  There will be even less motivation to put a shift in
