4-3-3 by the looks, which I like. No Nelson.

Fun fact : 32 years ago Derby paid 2.5M for Craig Short, a record fee at the time for 1) a defender and 2) a club in the second flight.
Can’t imagine Derby paying 2.5M now, despite huge inflation over that time period. Yes it was Lionel’s cash which we no longer have, and  demonstrates the impact of the Bosman ruling 3 yrs later taking the wind out of transfer fees. But despite the huge amount of money pouring into the English game, I’m not convinced clubs like Derby are any better off than they were 30 yrs ago. If anything their purchasing power has been diminished massively by Premier League finances. We are now duking it out for free agents and loans in the army surplus stores of the lower leagues.

ln lieu of a billionaire owner, the Academy has to be the answer.

It's less the income from those clubs but what they're demanding to let someone go. As we learned under Mel expectations in this market can inflate transfer fees. Clubs outside the UK will be aware of the tv deal, our bigger budgets and demand higher prices for their talent in turn. I tend to think this won't really change who we can afford massively. We'll still have to be, as I said in my previous post, creative in our scouting and going to markets which others haven't thought of.

No doubt clubs receive more funding. But guess where that will very quickly disappear. Player wages and agents fees. Derby struggling to afford Championship strikers now (although we may yet be surprised) and the new deal isn’t going to change that. All clubs get a better deal on paper now, but it’s all relative and will be lost in player wage inflation. Clubs will also lose some match day revenue as folks less likely to attend Friday 8pm games. The net net is Sky may make some money, clubs may initially but it will quickly be bid out, fans will be inconvenienced, and I think the product overall is less exciting if games are going to be spread across the week.

Just announced its broadcast schedule up to January and it appears that all 6 Derby games between Nov 27 and Dec 26 are to be broadcast live. Can’t they please just f*** off. This means a Weds 8pm game, 2 Friday 8pm games, 1 Sat 12.30, Boxing Day 5.30pm and 1 Sunday 3pm game. Didn’t anyone look at that schedule and think it way over the top given there are 20-odd other teams in the division. W⚓️’s.

Just read on Sky website that every opening weekend Champ, L1, and L2 game will be shown live. And they are committed to showing every EFL (incl L1 L2) club live at least 20 times during the season.

Not sure how they are doing this but it represents a sea change. Not too bad if a 3pm Saturday game is shown live, but if this means a shed load of Friday, Sunday, Monday games with constant fixture revisions then it will be a clusterfuck. Strong preference here for every game 3pm Saturday.

They don’t care about real fans attending games just their subscribers, advertisers and sponsors.

I know we all want to reach the promised land and see Derby take on the big teams and make a better go of it than last time, but honestly, I'd happily languish in league 1 away from the prying eyes of Sky TV. Give me Forest Green over Forest any day of it means a 3pm Saturday kick off.
8pm midweek games mean my 5 year old cannot attend, how is that helping the game if it prevents children from attending games.

Warne goes 5 at back as none of them are quick. He’s desperate to pick his star (and expensive) signing Bradley, but knows he will never be quick enough. The set up is too defensive with 5 though, so the likes of Bradley may need to be moved on.

Not sure about Warne out, but I’m worn out and not even watching the game. All that optimism starting to drift again as there appears to be no plan apart from hoof from wide. Chillingly similar to huge pockets of last season.

Warne under the cosh already. He needs to put the cones and resistance bands away, and find a pattern of play quickly that cannot be easily undone by lower league opposition. Baffling that these players cannot string a few passes together through the middle of the pitch. The strategy has to be deeper and smarter than chucking some long balls into the box hoping that eventually somebody gets a free header.

Result irrelevant as many point out - a decent pattern of play would be nice to see
we still need a better goalkeeper
we still need a real championship centre forward
we need goals from midfield and I struggle to see them coming with what we have so far
personally I hope we don’t play with three centre half’s frequently from the beginning of games as for me it’s just a sign that we are afraid and surrender the ball to the opponents
