England squad (1987 - 2017)

If you were picking an England squad from the last 30 years who would be in it.  Mine is...

Goalkeepers - Peter Shilton, Joe Hart, David Seaman

Defenders - Paul Parker, Gary Neville, Ashley Cole, Stuart Pearce, Rio Ferdinand, Ledley King, Des Walker, Mark Wright

Midfielders - Paul Ince, Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Scott Parker, Joe Cole, Glenn Hoddle

Forwards - Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Peter Beardsley

I might have missed the odd player but I reckon this squad could do us proud.

Hardest thing would be picking a starting 11 out of that !

Scott Parker? Warrabout Frank Lampard?

Different type of players and I wanted some balance.  I also think that Parker (much like Joe Cole and for a spell Gareth Barry) were players who played very well at international level where as some other players never really did it at international level and won caps on reputation.

What would your XI by Mostyn?  Not a deal of width in the squad.

Robson, Gazza and Scholes, in their heydey, not enough mobility? Are you for real?

I think you are ok in the centre of the park, I'm interested to know how you'll get Chris Waddle to track back in the right wing back position though :-)

If the exam question is between 1987 on then why so many votes for Bryan Robson?

Best days were early 80s when he was a force. His only tournament in this time window was the ill fated euro 88 where we were,  frankly rubbish  (not for the last time ).

My memory is that he was still decent up to the 1990 tournament.
