We're nearly in the relegation zone, the previous manager & assistant are gone, squad supposedly unfit...define 'good job'. :D

that is more likely to be the fault of the one driving the tactics. Now the one who liked us playing with the ball 30 yards in the air has gone, he will no doubt be getting better direction.

Ps. The assistant is still here along with Phillips) and immediately we showed an improvement.

yes this is true. But no one can blame that on Phillips unless you work for the club and watch his training sessions day in day out.

Agreed. For all we know he may specialise in working with the defence, informing them as to how top strikers think.

I am glad we have got a load of posters on here that know exactly what he does on a daily basis to make a judgement. I would hate to think we were just plucking people at random from within the club to blame for our current position.

I know what you mean and generally agree, none of us really know what's going on behind closed doors, but it's hardly plucking people out at random to question the contribution of the attacking coach, or whatever his title is, for the team with one of the most expensive strike forces (I assume) outside of the premier league but the worst goal scoring record.

Haven't we scored less goals than anyone in the football league?

Yes, but we have out scored North Ferriby Utd of the National League so things are looking up.

Top tip for Kev Phillips, get the boys practicing in 5 a side goals then on match days they will think f*** me these goals are massive, even bigger than a barn door.?

Fair point, I guess I just don't see it as a current coaching issue. I see it as combination of a lack of confidence (which is fixed by putting some chances away) and the fact that under Pearson he seemed to try and coach any attacking intent out of the team and we are still recovering.

Why do Derby fans have a constant need to find one person to blame for all their woes?

Where has it been said by the club that all Phillips is tasked with is coaching the forwards?

Phillips is part of the coaching staff that's it. Just because he's as ex-forward it doesn't mean he's the man to blame for all of our striking woes, just like ex-defender Powell isn't solely to blame for defensive problems and ex-midfielder McClaren isn't solely to blame for midfield problems.

Pearson, Ranieiri, Clement, Pearson (again) and now McClaren have all deemed him worthy of a coaching role, on this basis I'd hazard to suggest that he contributes much more to the coaching team than telling our forwards to not score.

FFS.

Ahem.

If only our goal scoring problems were this simple

Perhaps they are, or were.  Things have certainly improved since I wrote to the club to explain their shortcomings in front of goal and exactly this point.  The message hasn't got through to Bradley Johnson though. Will try again.
