Vince be very lucky to keep his place next test. I'd play the 2 spinners and drop him.

There are three batsmen under pressure, and I'm sure that at least one of them may be out for the next test. Maybe time for Borthwick to be recalled?

Could be Borthwick. They need to find someone who wants to bat for a long time. Too much one-day stuff has lead to batsmen who are too attuned to quick twenties and thirties.

We are lucky that we have two all-rounders. The top five need to be specialist batsmen. I don't think Ballance has got any better. I'd like to see a younger player like Bell-Drummond given a run in the team.

I'm in the Bell-Drummond camp too.

Jason Roy as an experimental option at 4?

With a strong lower order and a lack of proper batsmen grabbing their chance surely we could be picking a team with one eye on the winter tours, I'd go something like...

Cook

Bell-Drummond

Root

Roy

Moeen

Bairstow

Stokes

Woakes

Rashid

Broad

Anderson

Maybe Eddie... He deserves another chance.

I just worry that with consideration to where we are touring next we are not looking hard enough at the two spinners option enough already...

Borthwick, when originally picked for England, was in the side primarily as a leggie.

Roy's defence isn't great.

I'd try

Cook

Bell-Drummond

Root

Hales

Bairstow

Stokes

Woakes

Buttler (wet)

Rashid

Broad

Anderson

We need a better keeper and whilst Buttler isn't great, he's better then Bairstow.

Agree about Roy, even at T20 level for Surrey he attacks too much and gets out to stupid shots.

Bumping Hales down the order would be a good move imo... Root learned a lot from his difficult spell as an opener and I think we could see the same for Hales.

Has he played tests then Eddie?

Yes, one in 2014 in Australia (when we were gubbed 5-0). He took 3 or 4 wickets, iirc.

That was a brilliant team performance in the end, with every single England player making a telling contribution with either bat or ball.
