Wasn't it a shame to hear Will Stvens got replaced because he couldn't raise enough money from sponsors, instead his seat goes to an Indonesian rookie who had the backing of his government.

Will did so well in an uncompetitive car.

Looking forward to seeing what young Palmer can do in the Renault though.

Didn't think Will did that well really, especially when you consider he got any upgrades and his team-mate didn't. Mehri was also heavier than Will. If Will and Mehri/Rossi had the same car and weight I think Will would of been shown up big time.

I hope Palmer can do something, he was competitive in his free practice outings last season, transferring that to racing is another matter.

Will be interesting to see if Symonds has fixed the slow speed performance of the Williams. Their low drag approach has been modified to try and improve racing in the wet and around slower circuits, hopefully they can get back to 2014 levels of competitiveness for the sack of the championship. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have done at the rear of the car as there was talk they were moving away from their cut off approach to the rear bodywork and moving to a more conventional cannon exit. The subtle changes to the sidepod intakes and rear edge shape should improve things a bit. (I love the technical side of the sport, I spend loads of time on f1technical.net learning about aerodynamics and the ins and outs of how the cars work. I highly recommend others visit even just for the images)

The Ferrari looks like it could be a challenger this season now that Allison has had a chance to really put his stamp on the car. Their innovative radiator design from last season looks like it has been improved on as the sidepods are really slimmed down this year. Really like the retro livery.

Will be interesting to see how they start, heard that the honda has found 200 bhp or something like that, but reliability still an issue.

For me Williams have been the let down of the past two seasons, a quick car but no wins, you have to think if they had had a top driver in the car they would have won at least 2 or 3 races.

Maybe right on Will, after all he wasn't exactly a winner the pedigree of say Palmer prior to joining F1, but then the Indonesian kid isn't. As ever in F1 with the paid drives, its sponsors money that gets the seats; both Schumaker and Alonso both graduated this was before going on to be world champs!

Just thought 14 out of 17 finishes, albeit the highest 13th at Silverstone, wasn't a bad effort for a Will Stevens, suppose I'm too sentimental to the Brits, the reason I watch, rather than the cars.

Personally I'd like to see them all in very similar cars like the newer Formula E series. Watched a cracking race from Burnos Aires which young Sam Bird won; struck me as being more closely matched in terms of car performance, really enjoyed it as would love to see closer races testing driver skill as you say about Stevens. There were a fair few oh so that's what he's doing now moments too http://www.fiaformulae.com/en/teams.aspx

Back to F1 be interesting to see what fist of it the Haas team make, will they just make up the numbers? More than anything though, I want Lewis to get his early season form back, Rosberg was rock solid towards the season end.

I love Formula E, the tech is great and the racing is always superb.

Haas should be pretty decent despite Dallara building the chassis (they built HRT's). Haas have a lot of Ferrari parts and data so should be at least solid middle of the grid.

@Paul71 I would take everything about the Honda PU with a pinch of salt. A lot of stuff is coming out of the Spanish and Italian press that is very negative about the PU as they dont want Alonso at McLaren. There is a Honda PU thread on F1Technical that is worth a read. A user by the name of Wazari worked for Honda motorsport back in the 80's and 90's so has some inside knowledge of how they work and also has a cousin who is currently working on the PU so is dropping a few titbits here and there.

Its **** really. ACO and FIA had a sort of agreement that Le Mans and F1 wouldnt be on the same weekend and thats how it has been for however long. Clearly Bernie got p!ssed off with Hulkenberg going off and having a jolly in a Porsche at Le Mans last season and didnt want him going back and trying to retain the trophy. Its sad really as one of the things that was great about F1 years ago was drivers competing in all sorts of categories, even on the same weekend.

Will watch Le Mans as WEC is incredibly exciting at the moment and will catch a re-run of the F1. WEC and Formula E have really shown up Formula 1 recently with their excellent racing and legitimate overtaking.

Will watch Le Mans as WEC is incredibly exciting at the moment and will catch a re-run of the F1. WEC and Formula E have really shown up Formula 1 recently with their excellent racing and legitimate overtaking.

The biggest problem in F1 is a lack of natural variables. In the WEC, Toyota, Porsche and Audi deliver their speed in entirely different ways, so despite the fact they actually produce more down force than F1 cars, they provide close racing because there are dramatic differences in speed at various points of the circuit and the race.

In Formula E, no one really knows the fastest way to complete the race distance yet and the cars are unreliable. Given that the series races on such narrow street circuits, the racing really has no right to be so good, but it's probably the most entertaining FIA series at the moment with so much uncertainty in every race.

F1 really needs to open up the rulebook and encourage teams to race with unproven or new technology. What was the last "wow" moment in F1 from a technological standpoint? And how often to the top teams retire with a mechanical failure? If you have a grid where the fastest car starts at the front, the slowest car starts at the back, all the cars are essentially exactly the same and over 90% of the field will complete the distance, then you are going to have a boring race.

Formula E is also like WEC in that is has variables. Season 1 was all about learning how the tech worked but season 2 is a different animal due to the opened up regulations for the powertrains. Some cars have 2 gears, some 3, some 4 and some only have 1, thats just mental.

Like you say, Formula 1 has got to open up the rulebook, its far too prescriptive. I like Max Mosley's idea of a more open rulebook for those willing to work on a reduced budget, will never happen though as for some daft reason the FIA like to inhibit out of the box thinking. Double deck diffusers? Nope, we will ban them. F-Duct? Nope we will ban them. DDRS? Dont be silly.
