Would this not severely reduce the amount of compo we owe him?

You always see managers holding off from jobs due to the fact they give up money from their old club if they leave.

Di Matteo was sacked after winning the champions league then just milked the 50k a week (some say up to 100k) for a couple of years.

Hope Ashley is aware that if he does a decent job and a bigger club make overtures he'll be off, not that there's anything wrong with bettering yourself but when he says it's a 3 year project or whatever what he means is, it's a 3 year project unless something more attractive comes along.

perhaps that has funded his latest flouncing out of Schalke

Good luck to him.... Got a right challenge there.... If you our lot have meltdowns on social networks.... On another level in Geordie land

As if they hadn't been contact for the months previous.

Good riddance. The McClaren out brigade will be in full force if he fails to qualify for the Copa America. Fat Geordie pasty eaters.

I'd hate to think that all we have achieved over these contract negotiations is effectively passing £2m from DCFC to NUFC.

Agree with you though that it makes Macs crocodile tears over getting the push look a bit double-standards although we will probvably never know the full "who said what to who, exactly when" timeline.

if we paid him off, and he goes to Newcastle, DCFC should be straight on to their lawyers.

Why would we be on their lawyers?

Fact is, he's no longer a Derby County employee. He has no contract with us.

Because it is blatant that something was going on before he became unemployed.

Ashley would have had to pay us 2m quid. Instead we pay off SM and Ashley gets him without paying a penny. Stinks.

I'd imagine there would have been a clause in the payoff stating that any compensation would be forfeited if he took another job within x amount of months. Isn't that quite common nowadays, and our board are not idiots.

Not so. When something like this happens, laywers draw up a "compromise agreement" that sets out how much the employer will pay, over what time period, and what conditions the ex-employee has to adhere to, in order to get the payment. Conditions often include not being in other employment, and not talking to the press.

If he was sacked then he would have had 3 working days to appeal, in writing, to the HR department, clearly stating grounds of said appeal.

If no appeal is received then its all over, he's accepted the decision and moved on.

If he was sacked Monday evening, that gives him until close of play Thursday to bang his letter in.

If he's having an interview then one would assume he's said feck it, i'll take Ashley's wonga after all..
