Evolution and a major change in approach?

What a fantastic January so far, and perhaps, just perhaps, one new big one to come? Clearly the club have now made it an absolute priority that we finish in the top 2 this season. If we don't, I think it will be considered failure by the owners. McClaren I think was not allowed to spend as much as he wanted in the summer, hence the Bent loan and taking the inexperienced but exciting Ibe. Being 2nd and with FFP not a problem this season I think this window he is being allowed to bring in experience, and proven quality, and I think if he has got that bit more money to spend -

Things have been on the up for just over a year now, or longer if you consider Clough stabilised the club. On the prospect of a new winger already lined up, I'm not sure that's the case as Liverpool recalled Ibe and not us decide to send him back,

We will see. I agree Liverpool agreed to recall him, but I think they did that once they were aware, or made aware, of a step up for our squad and the fact that he might not see so much action. Really can't see they would have allowed him to be cup tied if they were going to take him back. Something has been really moving quickly since early January and I do think there is one more pleasant surprise to come. Ibe was in my view considered expendable.

On the basis that our owners are loaded, THAT Mac has probably achieved his key objective to be in the top 3 come January, and that FFP has again been kicked into the long grass. Dice are being rolled and Bent, Warnock and Albentosa are a notch up on experience and I would think quality to some of our most recent forays into the market.

Has FFP really been kicked into the long grass? I know the terms have been changed but it's not gone away

Gone far enough away to make this next stage happen. Derby chose not to oppose further watering down of FFP back in Oct/Nov, which surprised me a bit at the time given our previous good order, but perhaps they were happy that if they wanted to kick it up a ratchet or two they could with the new proposals. Things are evolving Sage.

The logical next signings (If any) would be a winger and defensive mid.

We will only get a short term loan to cover defensive mid.

Winger is different. If we have money to spend, logically it should go on a player equal to or better than Ibe. Most likely we will get in another loan.

I just think it's only a matter of time now.

We've reached that stage where we are ready for promotion, and if we don't get it this season for whatever reason we'll be favourites again next year.

The board don't need to panic, because it's inevitably going to happen.

We've got such sellable assets too that we won't be in trouble if we don't make it and we need to make a slight cutback. Sell Bryson to a fool who would pay 3 million and we'll be fine for another season.

I do worry what will happen if we don't get promoted.

However I think the board won't allow us to face that situation. January is the time to start your intent. Our board have done a fine job so far in this window. And it's clear they mean business.

I can see things are evolving, but the point I am making is we have already expanded our budget considerably.

Having been critical in the past,I'm highly encouraged by this window's business,so fair play to them.
